will a 360 5.9 SHORT BLOCK fit a 1965 barracuda?

Question 1
will a 360 5.9 SHORT BLOCK fit a 1965 barracuda?...  i have a 1965 barracuda with a 273 commando, its stuck i was going to put this other engine into it, will i be able to just put it straight in or will i have to change something?

Answers
1)   Drivers side eng mount bracket is different on the 360, and depending on oil pan difference, you may have to get one for a 360 car engine. - done wrenching

2)   you have a lot that's different. oil pan ,steering linkage,etc. - badbill1941

3)   call these folks - they can tell you exactly what you need to do and suppy you with the parts

4)   First are 5.9 magnum engines and older 360 engines the same. That answer is yes. Chrysler left the mounting points on both engines the same. To answer your question of "will a 360 5.9 short block fit" the answer is yes. You will need to shim the mounts. I have had a 65 and currently have a 66 and the swap was very easy. By the way it is very easy to put a late modle 5.9 in and keep the fuel injection. - srtmechinc

5)   Lots of good information here, but let me add a couple of comments. The left mounting ears are different. The 273 and 318 are the same, and the 340 / 360 are the same. I put a 340 in place of a 318 and all I needed to do was bolt the bracket onto the block in front of the ears instead of in back where it was on the previous engine, (or the other way around; I can't remember). The stud under the rubber mount dropped right in.

What's really important to watch for is the 360 was the only externally balanced engine of the four except for the '73 340. That means the 360 has a weight cast into the vibration damper which will be on your engine, but you will also need the appropriate torque converter or flywheel with a weight added. If you don't use the correct flywheel / torque converter, you will have a horrendous vibration that will take the joy out of driving.

1)   My God...no. Don't do this. Sebrings are crap. The terms of your contract are crap (ain't worth 19k and 24%? You'll get repoed). Check EBAY. The fair value is around 11-12k and still not selling...that's with similar mileage.

Please...have common sense or you'll get yourself in a bigger hole with your credit.

PS-->The only reason people trade in a car with 33k miles is because it's crap or a lemon or BOTH.

Edit: 33k on a RENTAL means it DEFINITELY has mechanical issues. Rentals usually have at least 75k on them. - Theneelster

2)   1- It's a Chrysler. DON'T BUY IT!
#2- It's a Sebring. DON'T BUY IT!
#3- The first answer posted nailed it (theneelster) and I just want to reinforce that.
#4- I just looked up Blue Book value and in EXCELLENT Condition with 33,000 miles suggested retail is $13,965.00

http://www.kbb.com/used-cars/chrysler/sebring/2008/retail-value/pricing-report?id=197057&condition=excellent&mileage=33500

RUN! Do not walk, but run away from the dealership. Especially if they are giving you a hard time. The interest rate is appalling, too! You need to find someone that will treat you with respect and not try to pressure you into a crappy car (Chrysler Sebring).

For that money you could get an AWESOME used BMW with more creature comforts and much sportier. They only build sporty. Much more reliable. I love mine.

Bottom line, keep shopping. There are tons of cars out there better than that, and not many that are worse. - billy_clubber_lang

3)   There is nothing wrong with buying a Sebring convertible. The deal is bad. They are charging you way more than the car is worth and the interest rate is way high. If your credit is bad, then choose a different, less expensive car and pay it off to build your credit record and have some equity. Try another dealership. Good luck, you can do better. - C-Tech

Question 4
My windshild wipers stay on all the time on my pt cruiser. Help?...  I took the switch off and unplugged the wires and they still stay on.
What should i do

Answers
1)   take out the fuse or relay until you can get it repaired. - badbill1941

2)   Unlike the days of older, more reliable cars, nothing can work today without having a trouble-prone computer involved. The Body Computer keeps the wiper motor running until it receives the "park" signal from the switch in the wiper motor. Start by unplugging any wiper-related relays under the hood and switching them with ones for other circuits just to be sure the contacts haven't become stuck together. When that doesn't help, suspect the Body Computer but there is one test to perform first. That is to check for the voltage on the park switch terminal being grounded out as the wipers cycle. If you want to do that yourself, I'll need to know the model year of your car so I can refer to one of my service manuals or the Chrysler web site.

Signing onto this site is a real lesson in frustration. I've had to create a new account every time I try to answer a question. It is certain I won't be able to get back here again so I'm including my e-mail address if you have more questions. The first one has been changed to the second one because Verizon couldn't figure out how to do e-mail properly. Try the second one first. When neither of those work, I can always count on the third address working.

You can also repost this question on 2carpros.com too but send me an e-mail so I'm sure to look for it. You can post it for free but there's just way too many questions to read through unless I know what to look for and when.

3)   You probably need a new wiper motor if it does not park. The PT Cruiser does not have a body computer. - C-Tech

Answers
1)   Double check your work on the valve cover gasket. You may need to tighten some bolts or reinstall the gasket. - C-Tech

2)   There is a die you can purchase to put into the engine oil. Check at the dealer or parts dealer. Follow the instructions . You need to use a black light . The leak will show under the black light for sure. - Donny
