What do you know about chrysler? Do they produce good cars?

Question 1
What do you know about chrysler? Do they produce good cars?...  I intend to buy an chrysler neon but i don´t know anything about this chrysler, so i want to find out more... Are they an american company?

Answers
1)   They are an American company. I would not buy anything from them since they make cheap vehicles that do not last long at all. - maximus20895

2)   Chrysler's quality the last 10-15 years has been abysmal. Check Consumer Reports and you'll see. - Common Sense

3)   Why? What year? Most are worn out. Throw away cars. - ?

4)   Chrysler was an American company, but is now owned by Fiat. The Neon is not a bad car, but it does have some problems. It hurts me to say this because I have been a fan of Chrysler products for years, but I would not buy one for myself now, - fire4511

5)   I know enough about Chrysler and Dodge cars and trucks to be a top ten answerer in both categorys.Chrysler corporation car quality slipped and they became to dependent on trucks sales under Daimler.I would still buy a new Dodge truck today but would have to look elsewhere if I was in the market for a car. The neon is basic transportation with the added plus of being one of the best 4 cylinder cars to build for drag racing. But in the end it is still a no frills bottom of the line car. - Amy m

6)   Yes, definitely. My mom has a '97 Town & Country van with 167k miles, and it's held up tremendously well. Aside from its durability, the engineering is top notch. - Ryan M

7)   Neon's and escorts...u get what u pay for...10 and 12,000 dollar american made cars were good for 4-5 years..after that it would nt be cost effective to make any major engine or trans repairs cause the cost would be more than the value of the car..Count how many neon's u see on the road..they just stop making them 4 years ago. They were everywhere now u can go a day without seeing any in urban areas.. - Steve from PA

8)   worked for chrysler for 21 years up to '99, chrysler master tech and viper certified (back then) so I know a few things about Chrysler, and unfortunatly, the neon is not one of there greatest endevours. Well they are a "american" company, but Fiat now owns part of it and you cant call it an american car, nor can you call Ford or Chevy, something like 65-75% of the parts have to be made in america and the big three dont, assembled yes, just not parts, by law Honda is more american. But I would still by a car from the big three only - rick b

Question 2
2001 Sebring Conv. with bad fuel pump... is it worth buying?...  I'm looking into getting a 2001 Sebring Convertible. It has just over 100K and has a bad fuel pump -- but otherwise in good condition. The person is charging $700 for the car and it will cost approx. $600 for my mechanic to fix the fuel pump. Do you think it is worth buying or should I look into something else?
Thanks for your answers so far :) About the engine... I don't think it's a Mitsubishi... I think those were only in the 1996-2000's.

Answers
1)   At $700 it's hard to go wrong. Of course if you can't test drive it because the pump is completely out then you may want to consider the source. - billy25685

2)   Ask your mechanic if it has the Mitsubishit engine? If it does run away as fast as you can. They do not last.If the engine has not been rebuilt yet it will need to be done soon.Ask them how much that costs and you will not buy this car.Ask yourself "why is this car so cheap?" - Hey You

3)   $600 for a fuel pump is a ripoff. Chances are the car is completely blown out and will cost $1k+ to get it in working order. Buyer beware. - Travis Gunter

4)   Chrysler hasn't had the best track record for reliability. If it has the 2.7L V6 engine you're probably looking at expensive engine repairs eventually. On the other hand to buy a car that runs well now for $1300, and a convertible to boot is a pretty good find. - Carguy

5)   Yes, what a bargain! It's amazing that it never occurred to other people that mechanics don't work for free. That $600 includes the labor to drain the fuel, drop the tank, replace the fuel pump, and reassemble everything, and pay taxes, and cover the overhead of operating a business. However, I think you should make sure that the relay for the pump is not the problem, AND make sure that the work is warrantee'd. The relay and the pump might both be good. The problem might be a vacuum transducer. On the top of the engine will be a set of fuel rails. If there is only one fuel line connected, then the car has a dead-head, or returnless fuel system, in which the computer controls how much fuel is pumped to the engine, and simply replacing a pump may not solve the problem. The relay is located in a black box in the engine compartment, and the underside of the lid should have each relay labeled. If you replace the fuel pump relay with the horn relay, or another identical relay, you can then try to start the car. If it works, you'll save yourself $550. If you succeed at this in front of the sellers, they might decided to not sell the car if they discover that it can be easily fixed, and you may want to try this without them standing next to you. - Ryan M

6)   You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carquotes.sinfree.net - Oliver

Question 3
Does a 2.4 engine from chrysler sebring fit an eclipse?...  Does a 2.4 engine from chrysler sebring fit an eclipse???

i have a 1999 eclipse Spyder that needs an engine. my car has a 2.4 engine which does nt work.and i cannot find one from an eclipse. i was wondering does the sebring one fit?? or from which other kind of car would it fit? i would really appreciate you answers thank you so much.
Mechanic said i needed to replace it

Answers
1)   umm no. they're completely different manufacturers. and why do you need an engine, what happened to it? did a mechanic actually say you need to replace the engine - dan P

2)   It might. The GS models used a 2.4 liter 4 cyl. You may have to do a little work on bolt holes, etc but it should work.
The much better 3.0 liter 6 from the GT models fits too. - Common Sense

3)   No not even close, the Sebring is a Daimler design, the eclipse is a Mitsubishi design, Apples and Oranges - rick b

4)   I wouldn't even think about trying it! - Jackolantern

Question 4
Are Chrysler Pacific a good SUV why or why not?...  Also what is the best year(2004-2007) to get and what are common problems that go wrong Chrysler Pacifica

Answers
1)   piece of junk..go with a land cruiser - Conway Twitty

2)   its american. there isn;t enough space here to list the possible problems. get a honda or toyota. - Jigger

3)   The Pacifica is not an SUV, it was one of the first "crossover" vehicles, like a Ford Flex or Nissan Murano. The early Pacifica's ( 2004-05 ) had many problems like the AWD versions had trans bearings which went bad early, or the nav unit displays went blank. Most of these happened under warranty, so a used one probably would not be affected. In my opinion, the better Pacifica's were the less expensive models which came out in late 2005 with the 3.8L engine and fwd. They are reliable and without the nav units and luxury options there is less to go wrong. The final years (2007-08) were more reliable, but the damage had already been done to their reputation. - C-Tech

4)   Top of the line Pacifica was $40,000..2yrs later with normal mileage they were wholesaling for $20,000. Mercedes first joint venture as Chrysler's then owner..They were giving rebates on them in the first year, they had several problems, Trans, Electrical, audio and under carriage problems do to low hanging exhaust systems - Steve from PA

Question 5
I have a 1996 Plymouth Voyager SE and hit a deer and at first look it seemed like a new hood and right light..?...  It was drivable but after 20 miles I smelled an electrical burning smell and on more looking found that there are two electric fans behind the radiator and the one on the left from driver's position is rubbing against the fan cowling. I have been told that one of these fans is for the AC but wonder which one and if I could unhook the left one and still drive?
He was a big almost trophy buck but scant bucks means I might have to drive a cripple for awhile...help!

Answers
1)   On all the Mopars we own that have dual electric fans both fans are entergized when the coolant temperature reaches a certain point, I suggest you have the cowl problem corrected as soon as possible. If you look I think you will find that there is only one electrical connection for both fans. - Don't know everything !

2)   If the airbag did not deploy good you were not hurt. Turn on the a/c and disconnect the compressor plug that the belt drives, the condenser fan should go off too, the fan plugs in about halfway down on the right as you look at it, and please be careful because of the short you smelled. Pull the shroud out of the way or clip it off with wire cutters or big snips. At high speeds the radiator gets more air so it can be driven not too far though. Not anyones fault. Too bad, the left one is usually for the radiator - Joseph

3)   I agree with Joe, fan on the left is radiator, and depending on your option package the right fan is for the A/C and extra cooling in hot conditions,
Did you keep the buck? Makes great Jerky, should cut down on the food bill and help with the repair bill - rick b

4)   Both fans cool the radiator AND AC condenser. They only come on while driving in town at low speeds. They only use both at the same time in extreme ambient temperatures. They can be replaced individually. Hitting the buck probably didn't, take out the fan. They are prone to go out around 100,000 miles on there own. The after market parts are just as good and a lot less at auto parts stores. - Jackolantern
