Question 2
Do the dash lights on a 1947 Plymouth change as the speed changes ?...

Answers
1)   On old vehicles running generators, it's not unusual for lights to glow brighter along with engine RPM increase. But that has nothing to do with the speed the vehicle is travelig, except to how it pertains to engine speed. - Fred

2)   Sounds like it has a generator instead of an alternator. At idle the output voltage would likely be lower than at driving speeds. It's pretty inherent of that type of charging system. Check the voltage regulator for proper function any way. - The Bass Player

3)   Just above idle speeds, not higher speeds. - badbill1941

4)   no they may be a bit dimmer at an idle because of the 6volt generator - Voice of Reason

Question 3
2004 Chrysler Town & Country Broken Alternator Mount?...  Hello:

I started hearing a screeching noise, and when I opened the hood, I noticed that
the noise was coming from the left had side where the alternator is located.

After further inspection I found the cause of the problem.

The mount upon which the alternator was bolted on to was cracked, so the
tension of the alternator belt was causing the alternator to lean off center, thus causing the screeching noise.

I would like to know, what is the part number of the alternator mount?

Anyone know what is involved in replacing this part?

Anyone know what cost I am looking at an independent repair shop? At the Dealer??

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks...
After doing some research, I believe that the part I need is called a

Engine > Camshaft & Timing > Front Cover

If someone can confirm this, it would be appreciated.

Answers
1)   Go by your local repair shop and have them take a look/see to determine
what and how much... - Pat

2)   You have two choices on finding a replacement-
1. Dealer, this is the most expensive solution. Not only for the part's but the labor.
2. Salvage Yard, this part will not show on using most internet tools. So you will have to call around.
There is the possibility of find one on e-bay, but that is pretty slim.
With some luck you can find an independent shop with a good salvage yard connection to do the repairs. - Old Man Dirt

3)   Front cover price $307 plus tax and shipping from Moparliquidators.com. List price is $427. Labor is about 5-6 hours. Plan on about $500+. There may be other parts needed or suggested for replacement (like the water pump, hoses, and coolant). - C-Tech

Question 4
Mechanics? Please help me with my 98 Chrysler Sebring Convertible!?...  I have an 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. I just had the engine rebuilt but it still blows white smoke from time to time, and smells like it is burning oil especially after it has been idling for a while. Occasionally when it shifts there will be a big clunk from the front of the car. As of yesterday the "Service Engine Soon" light came on, and it doesn't seem to want to shift itself. I was going around 50 MPH and it stayed at 5000 RPM and kept going higher the faster I went so I had to stay at 40 until I got it home. Any ideas?

Answers
1)   sounds like transmission problems - Laura

2)   i agree usually with Laura rebuilt engines and REBUILT transmissions go hand and hand. - gmoneystunt101

3)   Check for transmission codes. It probably has a bad connection or a damaged sensor. - C-Tech

Question 5
Can I put 235/70r15 tires on my 06 Town & Country?...  The stock tires are 215/70r15, I realize these are taller, but there looks to be a little room and it's the only snow tire, my local shop has on short notice for a trip. Is an extra odd inch to much?
I'm looking for practical experience, the tires on my jeep are larger than what the specs say will fit, but the guy at the tire store knew and they work. Current, tire guy said probably not.

Answers
1)   Call a tire store and ask them. - badbill1941

2)   Read your owners manual or look on the drivers door it will have a sticker stating what tire sizes are safe or recommended for that vehicle or call up the dealership.

Hope that helps and best of luck. - helpful bob

3)   I think you will find interference with the suspension components if you go up two sizes. We have 215's on our '99 Grand Caravan and I was shocked at the lack of space between the strut spring and the inside of the tire.

Visit http://www.tirerack.com/ and fill in the blanks on the homepage, you will be prompted for further info on the model of your van.

I went through the process and it appears the largest you can go is a 215/65-16. - Don't know everything !
