Bought a 02 sebring about 2 1/2 months ago now needs a new engine what action can i take against the dealer?

Question 1
Bought a 02 sebring about 2 1/2 months ago now needs a new engine what action can i take against the dealer?...  I bought the car cash as is no warranties but it hasn't even been 90 days yet

Answers
1)   Not much you can do unless you can prove the engine was bad when you bought it - Dave87gn

2)   The dealer is not responsible for anything and there is nothing you can make them do. You bought the car "as-is." If the car did not come with a written warranty of any kind, your current issue is not the dealer's problem. That is the risk you take in buying a used car.

My only advice to you is to go to www.car-part.com to see if there is a used motor in your area. Check to see if any of them offer a warranty on the motor as a lot of salvage yards will. - Kenny

3)   file a claim before the 90 days are up just in case there is a possibility of action. - JimT

4)   Any reasonable person would naturally expect that an engine will last more than 90 days. Unfortunately, I can only assume that this engine didn't have any symptoms or other indication of the impending failure during this time......so I must ask.....how could the dealer have known that it would fail 3 months down the road? - LeAnne

5)   All I can say is: your fault for buying a lemon. - Murcie_LP640

6)   You bought the car as is. That means that you have to pay for any and all repairs, and the dealer will not.

Even if the car had a warranty, it would have most likely have been for 30 days or 1000 miles, so you would not be covered after 2 1/2 months.

Sorry - fire4511

7)   Only the first 30 days, sorry but nothing you can do. - Carman Nguyen

8)   Sorry Miesha. I know it sucks but it happens. And most dealers are'nt out to screw you, they probably had no idea either.
Best of luck! - Dave

my friend said it must be the timing chain but could find out that there is a valve bent when he digs into it also said he might need special tools to fix trying to figure out the best way to adress this without getting a different engine.
there were no error codes on the scanner

Answers
1)   Check the ign timing if way off it could be the timing chain or belt has jumped time and worn - Robert F

2)   if it has a distributor cap then put number 1 piston all the way up and look at the rotor under the cap. if it did,nt break or slipped then it should be pointing to number 1 plug wire. - bandit_60

3)   timing chains last longer than the car. Look elsewhere for the problem. NEVER replace any part 'till you KNOW the problem - tronary

4)   If it's a 2.7, it will be a huge task. If it's a 3.2 or 3.5, it has a timing belt. Less troublesome. - done wrenching

2)   I bought an '02 for my twin daughters to drive to college, and it lasted less then two weeks. Someone ran a stop sign and T-boned them; The car was totaled, but they both walked away.... It WAS a good car..! - rick29148

3)   They are certainly safe cars. My wife and daughter were in ours when they were cut off. Our car T-boned his, and was totaled. Both wife and daughter walked away. I just bought my daughter a Plymouth Breeze (same basic car) for this reason. Our Cirrus memories are all good.
Very reliable, but a bit pricey to fix (as are all newer cars). Stuff is pretty cramped under the hood. Buy factory service manual. Chrysler cars are engineered well, but to those who don't understand how they work, they are crap. If you DO understand, you gain an appreciation for the engineering.

One warning, do not add Dexron ATF to the transmission. It kills them. Use only ATF+4.
Happy motoring! - GTCturboII
