Does anyone know the transmission warranty on the 2008 Chrysler 300 LX V-6 2.7 engine?

Question 1
Does anyone know the transmission warranty on the 2008 Chrysler 300 LX V-6 2.7 engine?...  I heard there is a 83 yr. Warranty on this vehicle transmission. That's wright 83 yrs. The Internet does not give me serial numbers, or whom to contact being its an earlier model. One warranty says just 300 with no model name.

Answers
1)   nope. your owners manual will tell you you either have a 3/36 or a 5/100 there's no way chrysler would basically sell a car and give you or anyone else a free transmission or engine for that long they would of been out of business long ago - bo

2)   To be sure, contact your local dealer and give them your vehicle I.D. number they can look up your warranty information (if any) in minutes. - C-Tech

3)   http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2008-chrysler-300-14.htm
unlimited miles/years, which is a good thing since Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge products go through Transmissions fast and often. Just yesterday Chrysler had the honor of finishing dead last in Consumer Reports reliability survey, they just barely beat our the crappy German trio of Mercedes/Audi/BMW. - aj20031018

4)   Didn't Chrysler have that lifetime powertrain warranty around that time? If they did the warranty lasts as long as the car does. - The Great Brandini

5)   Chrysler had/has a Limited Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. With the limited part meaning that you kept up on all powertrain maintenance. Any chrysler dealership should have the pamphlet that explains the complete warranty. Or least I know when I bought my 2008 Caliber they gave me a pamphlet that explained the warranty and what upkeep I needed to not void it. - Crys

Answers
1)   cant see any picture but the only belt there is is the serpentine belt - pedro7of9

2)   1.timing b elt 2.serpentine belt - PEDGE

3)   There are 2 serpentine type drive belts, the narrow one is for power steering and alternator. the wider belt is for a/c compressor, and that one is on passenger side of engine. - done wrenching

4)   After looking at some pics of the 3.5 engine on "allpar.com" I'm going to guess and this is a guess using the pictures as reference, the belt drives the AC compressor. The "center" pulley appears to be the crankshaft pulley the smaller one to the left appears to be the idler, perhaps a tension idler, and the upper left would be the AC compressor. The photos I looked at on "allpar.com" were not clear but I could see the alternator was located on the left side of the engine, the right side as we look at the picture.

Using this info, I would call it the "air conditioner compressor drive belt". If there are hoses leading from this component to the firewall that would make it even more likely to be the AC compressor. - Don't know everything !

Question 4
1965 383 Plymouth backfiring..any help?...  My 65 Sport Fury still has the original 383 Comando V8 factory 2 bbl motor in it. It spun a rod bearing in 1973 and I still have the 1973 Arizona license plates that came on it. I rebuilt the engine. That was the easy part. The hard part is finding the backfiring problem. As you accelerate about halfway or better to the max rpm, is when it starts to backfire. The first thing I think I should do is to measure the slack in the timing chain. Any other idieas? I rebuilt the engine in 1995 and now can't remember if I put new timing chain and gears in it. I am sure I would not skimp on such an important item. I think I had my father looking over my shoulder back then and he talked me out of spending money on chain and gears. I have done the research for troubleshooting the timing chain wear. The slack in the chain is not suppose to be any more than 11/64 of an inch of play. I can't beleive that I would not put on a new set of chain and gears. Could it be the valve springs? The valve springs and valve guide seals were new when I put in the new camshaft. I put in a slightly higher performance camshaft then what is stock. With that camshaft kit came new hydraulic lifters and the new valve springs. I assume the valve springs would be a stiffer spring than stock. The point gap is set right at 18 with a new set of points. It can be anywhere between 14-19. The timing is right a 10 degrees BTC. That is what my 65 Plymouth service manual said to set the points and the timing at. I called the place where I got my camshaft and asked them if the factory timing can still be used with the camshaft they sold me. They said "yes". I no longer wanted to use the high rise aluminum intake and 4 bbl set up so I installed a new valley pan intake gasket and put the original factory cast iron intake back on it. I put on a rebuilt Bendix/Stromberg WW3 2 bbl carb. That is the factory correct carb for my car when it was new. I still have the original but this one was already rebuilt and ready to go. I am getting very good spark from the wires at the distributor cap. The spark snaps and jumps very strong when I take them off one by one at the cap. When I do that I don't really hear any difference in the engine. It isn't obvious that a wire has been taken off if you just listen to it run. It basically makes no change. That's the way it seems anyway. I guess I need to do the same thing at the spark plug end of the wires to see if I am getting the same good spark. Maybe I should check the plug wires to see if I have two of them switched around by accident? I wonder if my distributor drive gear might be off by one tooth? The distributor itself can only fit into the slot at the top of that drive gear one way. It is either dead on or gonna be 180 degrees off. It could be that I am off by one tooth of where that drive gear is supposed to be, in its relationship with the camshaft. That could put the distibutor off just enough to be a problem. Does that sound possible? Maybe the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are just off a tooth. What do you guys think? Please help.
I bought the car in 1987 and finally rebuilt the engine in 1994 and then drove it for a year and then parked it in my garage in 1995. I looked at all my receipts and I put in a rebuilt distributor at the time I put in a new camshaft. The engine has a total of 3200 miles on it. Can't imagine the distributor and/or a cam lobe going bad in that short amount of time. Glad you guys are willing to help. It is blowing a little black smoke out the exhaust as if it had a manual choke that was pulled out too far and forgot to push it back in after warm up. It has a well type, thermocoil choke spring set up sunk down into the intake manifold. It is supposed to be set at 1 notch rich. I'll check that to see if it needs adjusting. Any other tips? You guys are good to help a person out.

1)   I remember there is a question similar to your question asked by someone few days ago. Someone has answered it very well, and the answer has been chosen as the best answer. You can try to search it in search function above, hope you luck - Trinity Campbell

2)   Sounds like you may have a rounded cam lobe, especially if the popping is very repetative when you stand on it. - done wrenching

3)   The problem may actually be in your distributor, too much advance or too little due to a worn out component. Give serious consideration to an electronic distributor from Chrysler, looks very much like what you have and more reliable.

You mentioned a lot of other possibilities as well and it might be worth the time to pull the engine down and check what you have questioned, timing chain and gears, distributor drive, etc. - Don't know everything !

4)   first thing is to check timing before tearing down. late timing will cause backfire. when your car manual was printed we had differant grade of fuel You cannot go by the original timing with some of the bad fuels we get today. you don't have to smog so you can advance. When they smog older cars they retard the timing until they hardly run to meet state specs. - Bob S

2002 Chrysler Town and Country Airbag light comes on and off and is progressively getting worse?...  It seems when I was behind a vehicle throwing salt at me it went off more often. Or would stay lit.

Answers
1)   You had better get it looked at now, sounds like a bad wire to your airbag sensor. It will eventually either go off on you driving down the road, causing you to wreck and hurt yourself or kill yourself and someone else, or it will just not work at all when you do need it. either way, it needs to get looked at A.S.A.P. - jeff rager

2)   It sounds like one or both of the front impact sensors are faulty. Yes theoretically your air bag could discharge while driving down the road, or not when you are in a collision. Either way you need to get it to a dealership soon. How much is your life worth??? - Brad and Debb

3)   I wouldn't fool around with an airbag system. It is best to get it to a dealer and let them put the code tester on it. It could be a clock spring or a short in the wiring. The salt might have been a co incidents. These air bags have a charge in them so be very careful. (A charge as powerful as a shotgun) - Donny

Buying a chrysler 300 or dodge magnum?...  Ive been looking into purchasing a new car and having trouble choosing between a 2005 chrysler 300 and the 2005 dodge magnum. They both look good but can you tell me which one is better than the other and why?

2)   The 300 is to my eyes better looking and has a little nicer interior. The magnum has more space and is rarer. Id go with the 300. Avoid the 2.7L V6, the 3.5 is only adequate. Id say its worth it to get the 5.7 V8. Just dont get the 2.7! - The Champ

Where can I buy a speed sensor for a 1998 Chrysler Neon?...  I am trying to find a replacement speed sensor for my 1998 Chrysler Neon LX. So far haven't had any luck. If anyone could recommend phone numbers of wreckers or spare parts stores or websites to look at that would be great.

Answers
1)   try ur local phone book under junkyard /salvage yard etc........if u cannot find any search ebay.........

then if all else fails go to ur local parts store and ask about their salvage program........autozone advanve auto oreilly's and others offer it.....basically its a nation wide salvage u pay for part + shipping and 10-15 prct .....so cheaper if u can find it ureself... - Karle

2)   Have you tried the dealer to see how expensive it is? - badbill1941

3)   Just go to the local dealer and buy a new one that you know will work instead of taking your chances buying a used one. It should be around $50 at the dealer, possibly less if you want to buy an aftermarket one from the local parts stores.

I wouldn't even consider a used sensor (among other parts I'd never buy used), too high a risk of getting another bad one and having to take the time and waste gas going after another one, possibly more than once. Just not worth wasting the time and money for chasing a small, inexpensive part. - Mark B

Question 3
chrysler 440 magnum engine (1970)...what is the miles per gallon?...  this engine is stock w/ a 4 barrel carb....does it need a lead substitute?

Answers
1)   Depending on the exact version these got about 10 to 12 MPG highway, 8 to 10 MPG. Back when premium gas was 25 cents per gallon they didn't really care much about fuel mileage. They just stuck a bigger fuel tank in the car.

Personally I would not bother with lead substitute. It has been running for about 30 years on unleaded fuel. Unleaded fuel is not as hard as you think on these old engines. I personally know a few people who have cars from the 60's that run them with unleaded fuel without any problems. If I were you I would run the car on unleaded premium fuel, mostly because of the high compression ratio. The next time the engine is overhauled replace the valves and seats with hardened versions. - Mad Jack

2)   not very good, 6 to 9 mpg also depends on how heavy the car ,and rear end ratio, but i like the motors, lot of power and hard to blow up, use to run a 440 at the drag strip - Phil

3)   it depends the car it was in (weight) and gearing

in an Imperial - perhaps 10

In a Fury - perhaps 14

In a GTX - perhaps 16

In a Challenger - perhaps 17 - roadrunner426440

4)   I would figure 8-10 mpg. in town. I would add 1 bottle of octane booster for each full tank of gas. - badbill1941

Question 4
2004 Chrysler Pacifica...automatic door lock problem?...  Is this just a matter of replacing batteries in our keys?
We are only able to unlock the doors remotely maybe one time out of three.
Both our keys have this problem. Is there some other cause of this problem?
Is it an expensive thing to fix?
The locks work fine when we lock/unlock the car using the inside controls.
Just the keys themselves have a tough time unlocking the car.
Usually locking isn't a problem...it is mainly UNlocking.
But, brad and debb, BOTH keys have started doing this at the EXACT same moment. We aren't "careless" with out keys. You might be right that something has magically gone wrong at the very same moment with both keys....I mean, the very same split second, they BOTH decided to manifest their careless treatment? It is hard for me to believe, but hey, it could happen.

Answers
1)   The batteries or the key buttons may be bad. Try replacing the batteries first. - C-Tech

2)   It does seem to be a common problem for people who are less than cautious with their keys... you have probably got damage to the circuit board in the key at the battery hold down tab where it has become lose. You will more than likely need to replace the key which will have to be done at a dealership so that the new keys can be programmed to the car. You can verify this by opening the back of the key and if the battery hold down tabs are lose at any point then I'm right if you have a soldering iron and a very steady hand you might be able to repair the key but you have to be careful not to burn the circuit board at all. - Brad and Debb

3)   I'd strongly recommend at least trying a new battery in one of your remotes but remember a lot of remotes will loose their memory or could loose their programming with the battery being out of the remote for too long , so be sure you've the correct new battery in hand. Another thing could be that the key less remote module signal receiving antenna wire has moved and needs to be aligned due to possible interference. The module may have a bad connection within it's system or a bad ground or a faulty wire or a loose or rusted or corroded connection.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way one thing about any type of remote is the battery or batteries being used are vital bec sometimes you'll find out that even though for example some AAA batteries might look the same in shape size etc the voltage might be 1.3 volts on some and 1.5 on others. In remotes the factory recommended battery and it's precise voltage is vital bec remotes use a very low current the voltage is critical. In fact if you want to know what's what just test the batteries with a volt meter and compare those readings to any brand new replacement battery both under load and out of the circuit. - helpful bob

You can also order a new ignition switch that is already keyed up to your door key from amazingkeys.com if you think that would be cheaper. Here is the link to the 2001 Sebring switch: - Bob R

Question 5
What is wrong with my 2003 Chrysler Town and Country?...  Earlier this week my alternator started going out on my car, so I went to Auto Zone and bought a refurbished one and a new belt. My cousin in law, who is a mechanic, installed the new one for me and soon as I tried to start it the next day, the battery was dead. I got a jump and took it to Auto Zone so they could check the battery and they said that it was still a good battery. The battery is new. They told me to drive it around so the alternator could recharge the battery, which I did for 3 hours. When I stopped at the car wash to wash my car, the car wouldn't start back up. The lights kept dimming everytime I tried to I tried to start it, and the needles on my dashboard kept jumping forward. I got a jump from 3 different people and the car still would not start. Soon as I take the cables off the battery it would die again. My cousin in law came out to where I was and found that the fuel pump was not working, and the alternator. Now my dashboard won't work at all. The speedometer, tachometer, even the milage won't come on when I put the key in the ignition. And the battery is completly dead. What is going on with this car?
Now my cousin in law is saying that the car needs a new PCM after I bought a fuel pump. I found out that he pulled a fuse and that is why the instrument panel went out. He pulled another one to replace that one which he lost. I decided to have the car towed to AAMCO and let them run a diagnostics test to see what is wrong with the car, because so far fixing this car has caused me not to pay any bills for this month. I am praying that it is something simple and not too costly.

Answers
1)   It sounds to me like you might have a PCM problem. You need to take it to a dealership not your cousin in law. He might be good with fixing cars that are older but newer cars need trained technicians with the proper tools and computers. - Brad and Debb

2)   Check the ground cable from the battery to the BODY. If it is OK, then you need to take it to the shop. It's not the PCM or BCM. - Jackolantern

3)   This lands on cousin in law- he did the work so is he going to stand by it?

Other wise you are stuck towing to a real shop. The water is muddy now. One thing I will say is that if you cranked your starter while the jumper cables were hooked up, you probably fried your Engine Management Box. I am sure it warns you NOT to do this in your owners manual!

3)   The oil pressure sending unit is probably bad. - C-Tech

4)   The first thing I would do is have a mechanic check your oil pressure with an oil gauge when fully warmed up. If the pressure is above 5 LBS at idle then it is the oil pressure switch that needs changing. If the pressure is below 5 LBS, then you have an engine problem. - Jackolantern

Question 2
Chrysler Crossfire 12 cylinder engine?...  Were any Chrysler Crossfires equipped with a 12 cylinder engine. I thought for sure I saw one on a showroom floor once with one installed from the factory. Was I right? If so, please furnish confirmation link.
Thanks, in advance, for your reply.
Did the 6 cylinder use 2 spark plugs per cylinder?

Answers
1)   no. it might have been a concept though, so possibly - NiCk

2)   No. The only concept I know of is the chrysler 4-12 which never made it to production.

For reference...that's similar to the setup of the Bugatti Veyron. V12 and quad turbochargers. (the bugatti uses a W12 from VW which is basically a more compact 12 cylinder engine)

The crossfire shipped with either a 4 cylinder engine or an srt-6 engine (v6) both naturally aspirated engines. - Hank Scorpio

3)   No 12 cylinder Crossfires. There are 2 sparkplugs per cylinder. The SRT-6 was a supercharged 3.2L V6. No 4 cylinder Crossfires. - C-Tech

Question 3
1998 Chrysler Sebring Radiator needs replacing, any help?...  Has anyone ever changed a radiator in a Sebring? If so, is it a difficult job or just like any other radiator? And does anyone know if there's any Chrysler/Dodge rads that are interchangable with the Sebring? Or can only a '98 Sebring rad fit in there? Finding parts in my areas' a liitle difficult.

Answers
1)   You need to leave it to a mechanic. I don't know of any radiator that will interchange. You can get replacement radiators at ORaleigh, NAPA, etc. for less than a dealer's replacment. - Jackolantern

2)   No there is not an enter changeable radiator for the Sebring. The radiator is changed out from the bottom or you can do it the card way and go from the top but it is best to have a dealer do it for you that way if something goes wrong you can take it back. - Brad and Debb

basically it an electronic componet ...not if it would regulate the way my transmission shifts....itseem to shift okay at first but not all the time hope that helps
Thanks Marc pretty much what i was askig sry wasvry tired when I wrote it

Answers
1)   I can't figure out what you're asking. Please edit and rephrase. - straight shooter

2)   As best I can tell, you're asking about the Electronic Automatic Transmission Controller (aka, EATX)?

If this is what you're asking about, it controls everything to do with the transmission, and relays the information to the Power-train Control Module.

If that isn't what you're asking about, then please try to be more clear about what you want.

Also, before you go and just buy a new EATX, have it checked out because there's several things that can cause it to not shift right, including (but certainly not limited to) input and output speed sensors, and the solenoid pack.

Replacing parts because you think they're bad, or just guessing they're bad is running the risk of spending money replacing perfectly good parts. - Mark B

Question 3
How do i reset the airbag light on a 2008 chrysler sebring myself?...

Answers
1)   press the big red reset button - Matt Marcello

2)   I wouldn't try it myself. you may deploy airbag. - badbill1941

3)   Most pocket scanners can't reset the lights so it's pretty much going to a dealer or a decently equipped shop. - Hank Scorpio

4)   On most vehicles, the airbag light should come on for @6 seconds, and then go off if the system is working properly. If there is a fault or a problem in the system, the light will remain illuminated, or flash continuously. If the airbag light does not work properly, some vehicles have an audible tone that sounds indicating a problem with the airbag light system. When the light is on (or the tone is sounding), the airbag will NOT deploy, even in an accident. This website gives you the procedure for diagnosing and resetting airbag lights on the ...scanlist.aspx page listed below.

The flashing light on your car is telling there is a problem. On some vehicles, the light is flashing a two digit code. Your vehicle will require a scan tool for the proper diagnosis (and not the one at Auto Zone---it needs to be airbag system specific, like a good body shop or the dealer). Here's a site that will explain everything you need to know about airbag lights and resetting the system. Once you know the code, you can most likely repair it yourself. There are fairly easy procedures that most people are capable of repairing.
Airbagsolutions.com has the fault code charts to tell you what is wrong! Although it’s a pay site ($14.95/day), it’s a lot cheaper than going to the dealer.

Some vehicle manufacturers accommodate systems without a scanner (like Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, Acura, Ford, Lincoln, Mazda & Mercury) . Most all other vehicles require a scan tool for the diagnosis. Here is a link to the list of vehicle and scanner requirements.
Check out these websites also for more info on airbag systems and the light.
Lastly, check your vehicle for recalls through this link. - D G

Question 5
What causes a P0300 code on my town and country?...  I have an 05 Town and Country. Small V6. 100k miles. On long drives (1 hr or so) the check engine light comes on and the code is P0300. Multiple cylindar misfire. What causes that?

Answers
1)   a deficiency on the p0300 - Matt Marcello

2)   It could be caused by having worn out spark plugs. My 03 T & C had a problem with a misfire and after I changed the plugs, it went away. Start simple.

Good Luck! - Jim

3)   Check and replace the wires and plugs as needed and if that code persists then I'd recommend changing the ignition module or coil pack etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way rust or corrosion at the connectors on the coil pack or where the plug wires connect up to can cause such issues too so clean them one by one with a wire brush too and see then how it acts. - helpful bob

Question 5
Car repair for a Chrysler 300?...  Last night, I could not get t he shift out of park. Do I need transmission fluid added? I get maintenance checked every 6 mos. because I only drive it for running errands and going to Church. The mileage is approx. 19, 500.

Answers
1)   The interlock is bad, when you push the brake pedal it releases the lock so you can put it in gear.It is a safety devise so the car cant jump into gear if no one is in the car and it is running and so little kids can bump it in to gear and the car take off.Call the parts store they should have the part to fix this just tell them whats going one and they will know what to get you. - Scott W

2)   Here is the skinny on transmission locking in park. When you pull up to a curb or against a fixed object and hit the brake and put the shift in park and let off the brake, the shift park rod is placed in a bind. Same as if you were trying to turn the door knob on you're house with someone pushing against the door. The latch binds. Always let the vehicle, placed in neutral, role back from the object or curb on it's own before placing the shift in park. Otherwise, the best way to unbind it is to simply give the shift lever a hard and sound jerk to unbind it. If your 300 was not against another object when you parked it, then it could be the safety shift lock that is electrically controlled and released by placing your foot on the brake before trying to come out of park. This will have to be checked out by a technician. It isn't fluid related. - Jackolantern

3)   The shifter has a broken piece which prevents it from moving out of park. There is an emergency release. On the shifter base you will find a small rectangular piece of plastic. Remove this piece of plastic, place a long thin screwdriver or pen into the hole. You are trying to push down on the pink plastic release. Once you press down on the release, turn the ignition key on (do not start the engine), put your foot on the brake, and move the shifter to neutral. You can then start the engine and drive it to the dealer or shop to replace the shifter. Good luck. - C-Tech
