98 Chrysler electrical mystery problem. Can you diagnose?

Question 1
98 Chrysler electrical mystery problem. Can you diagnose?...  My 98 Chrysler Town & Country minivan has a very elusive electrical starting problem.
99 percent of the time it works fine but every once in a while when you go to start it after having turned it off (usually at a very inconvenient place) you get absolutely no response(no sound,no clicking) when you turn the key to start it. When this happens the instrument panel gages are all flatlined(no power to them), however other electrical works (radio, heater windows lights etc.). I've had the ignition switch replaced and that wasn't it. Battery, starter etc.all ok.

Curiously, it always seems to start right up again when you try it later on after a couple hours.
It is such a sporadic problem that I can't get anyone to pin it down.

Your ideas would be appreciated.

1)   solenoids overheat lol - james b

2)   body control module in dash is crappin out /near radio area/under dash - ken k

3)   I believe your relay for the starter solenoid has dirty contacts or is failing, (personal experience) find the rely clean the plug ends and tap the relay on a hard surface then re-install it if this does not help, then
try cleaning all the relays.... water damage can cause this for instance did you recently use a motor cleaner pressure washer? - matt

Question 2
How much is a 1993 Plymouth Voyager worth...?...  that doesn't run. it's most likely the fuel pump thats wrong with it. just needs some tlc and it'll run fine. how much is it worth on craigslist if the other person has to tow it?
the fuel pump is worth about $80 new.
Pick and Pull said about $195, so i'm thinking more than that on craigslist

Answers
1)   Local wrecking yards in my area are paying $130 per ton for any complete vehicle.

So I'd say a 1993 voyager that doesn't run is worth about $200-$300 minus the towing fee.

Seriously, the vehicle is worth less than a fuel pump. - SmartA$$

2)   Without knowing the engine, mileage and general condition of the vehicle it is hard to say, but I would say that the van has limited value if it does not run. Those vans were known for transmission problems, and if it is not running, there is no way to test the transmission.

In the current condition it is worth around $200

To check to see if the problem is the fuel pump, spray starter fluid into the air intake and try to start the van. If it starts but quits quickly, it is a fuel problem. - fire4511

Question 3
my 99 chysler has no heat blows cold air only?...

Answers
1)   Assuming that the engine is at operating temperature, and that the vehicle is full of coolant, there are several possible causes. One would be a stuck heater control valve, that is not allowing the hot coolant to travel through the heater core.

A second possible problem would be a clogged heater core itself. - fire4511

2)   that's normal for a Chrysler put a new heater core in then it will work then trad it in cause they are crap - Eugene

3)   One common thing that causes this on a car/van this old is accumulation of rust in the coolant system. Check the condition of the coolant. If it is muddy brown, then you can almost always bet the brown stuff has stopping up the heater core. Remove the heater core hoses either at the core inlet/outlet or any other convenient location and try flushing the core out by flushing through it in both directions with a garden hose. If the core isn't stopped up when first applying water, then you have a temperature door stuck or not moving on demand. - Jackolantern

Question 5
best way to race an 300c hemi 5.7l engine?...
Should i start it off on triptronic or just leave at normal?

Answers
1)   Getting one of those computer tuner things would be a good start to let the throttle open as you hit the pedal. Under 20mph the software really limits the throttle opening. Changing the transmission shift points could also help. - doornobk

2)   Pay the other guy to lose. - Hank Scorpio

3)   Honestly the triptronic does not really work on that car. i owned it and i would just leave it at normal. If i were racing i would do the following:

hold the "ESP off" button located near the hazard lights while in park for 30 seconds. this will turn off the electronic stability program and allow the rear end to spin.

It makes a pretty big difference and its FREE - ahmedniu
