AirBag Light is always On, on my '02 Chrysler Voyager?

Question 1
AirBag Light is always On, on my '02 Chrysler Voyager?...  It has a 3.3L engine and 145,000 miles on it. Can it be fixed without taking it to a Dealership?

Answers
1)   No. There is a part under the air bag which needs to be replaced. - Brad and Debb

2)   It could mean there is a defect with the airbag and it could fire off without warning!

Get to the dealer ASAP! - roadrunner426440

3)   In reality a lot of shops have the equipment to work on airbags, take it to your friendly independent guy and he can fix it.
The light being on means there is a problem and it is turned off, it has a failsafe to not go off at all if the lght is on and there is a problem.
on an '02 it is probably a bad connection at a sensor. real cheap easy fix. - Uncle Red

4)   Does the cruise control and horn work? If not, you need a clockspring under the steering wheel. - Two Lane Blacktop

5)   We had a lot of problems with clock springs back then. It is located under the steering wheel. But a lot of other things can turn the light on as well. Check all the fuses first. I believe there are about 3 or 4 fuses that keep the system operational. If any one blows, then the light will come on. The engine size doesn't matter. The problem with diagnosing the problem is you have to see what the generated code is and there are something like 50 to 60 different codes that can be generated because of a multitude of things that can happen to the system. Even removing the warning icon bulb will generate a code. Most parts stores will check out the fault codes for free. If it is the clock spring (so called because it resembles a clock spring in it's function) you may want to call the Chrysler/Dodge dealer to see is yours has a lifetime warranty as some back then had. Also be aware that the air bag can not, I repeat, CAN NOT deploy as long as the air bag light is on because the light is telling you that the air bag function has been defeated and is non functional any more as long as the light is on. - Jackolantern

2)   batter, yo what u be smokin - Matt Marcello

3)   The Laser has top mounted battery posts and the Chevy Silverado has side mount connections so the answer is "No" unless you purchase the adapters that are available. They are some batteries that have both connections, top and side, if you have one of those it wouldn't be a problem. - Don't know everything !

4)   First off, hit spell check after your done asking.
If the post on the batterY match the one you are switching, also measure the height of the battery. It might be too high and will short out on the hood. - Donny

Question 3
why would a catalytic converter of my 2006 town and country chrysler van with 40,000 mi need to be replaced?...  dealer told me so. just had the gaskets replaced due to oil leak. now they tell me i need this

Answers
1)   It is unusual but it could be due to excessive fuel going to them due to bad sparkplugs (misfire). The replacement should be covered under the emission warranty unless I am mistaken. - C-Tech

2)   Catalytic converters can go indefinitely if they aren't contaminated by oil, leaded gas, antifreeze, etc. It's unusual for them to go bad at that low mileage, but they can. - Jackolantern

3)   Either too much fuel went through it, or it got too hot from something else. Sometimes, it can be caused by a technician trying to speed up a fuel injection cleaning service by running the cleaner through the engine at too high of an engine speed.
I don't believe in doing injection cleaning services unless the vehicle is having problems from carbon build-up on the injectors or valves. Fuel is required by law to have certain additives and cleaners in it (though some gas companies add more or different additives to it), adding more additives to the tank or having a cleaning service done as "regular" maintenance is throwing money away.

The vehicle has an 8 year, 80,000 mile emissions warranty that covers the catalytic converter. You shouldn't have to pay anything at all for it to be replaced. If they're trying to tell you you have to pay for it, then it's time to call Chrysler Customer Service (1-800-992-1997) and tell them what's going on, or take it to a different dealership.

If it's a salvage vehicle, then it won't be covered, but otherwise, it should be. - Mark B

Question 4
Car repair for a Chrysler 300?...  Last night, I could not get t he shift out of park. Do I need transmission fluid added? I get maintenance checked every 6 mos. because I only drive it for running errands and going to Church. The mileage is approx. 19, 500.

Answers
1)   The interlock is bad, when you push the brake pedal it releases the lock so you can put it in gear.It is a safety devise so the car cant jump into gear if no one is in the car and it is running and so little kids can bump it in to gear and the car take off.Call the parts store they should have the part to fix this just tell them whats going one and they will know what to get you. - Scott W

2)   Here is the skinny on transmission locking in park. When you pull up to a curb or against a fixed object and hit the brake and put the shift in park and let off the brake, the shift park rod is placed in a bind. Same as if you were trying to turn the door knob on you're house with someone pushing against the door. The latch binds. Always let the vehicle, placed in neutral, role back from the object or curb on it's own before placing the shift in park. Otherwise, the best way to unbind it is to simply give the shift lever a hard and sound jerk to unbind it. If your 300 was not against another object when you parked it, then it could be the safety shift lock that is electrically controlled and released by placing your foot on the brake before trying to come out of park. This will have to be checked out by a technician. It isn't fluid related. - Jackolantern

3)   The shifter has a broken piece which prevents it from moving out of park. There is an emergency release. On the shifter base you will find a small rectangular piece of plastic. Remove this piece of plastic, place a long thin screwdriver or pen into the hole. You are trying to push down on the pink plastic release. Once you press down on the release, turn the ignition key on (do not start the engine), put your foot on the brake, and move the shifter to neutral. You can then start the engine and drive it to the dealer or shop to replace the shifter. Good luck. - C-Tech

Question 5
Check Engine Light is always On, on my '02 Chrysler Voyager.?...  It has a 3.3L engine and has 145000 miles on it. It runs good.

Answers
1)   and it will stay on until you have it checked and they reset the computer - rkbtoo

2)   take it up to an autozone. They will hook it up to a diagnostic computer and tell you whats wrong for free. Some places charge as much as $50 just to hook it up to the computer to tell you why the light is on. It could be something as stupid as how many times your gas cap clicks after filling it up. It happened to my sister a couple of years ago when she had a 2002 sebring. She had to click it i think 3-4 times otherwise that would happen to her. - Matt S

3)   Matt S is right! One of the most common reasons for the engine lamp to come on is the fuel's evaporator system such as a bad gas cap. Also, the system was prone to vacuum hoses that crack where they hook onto metal tubing. Especially going around the passengers strut tower under the hood. Most parts stores can check for codes and if it is the evap. system, they usually have a fuel cap tester on hand to check the cap. Otherwise, you will just have to look for a split hose or take it in to a dealer. - Jackolantern
