(Re: 1995 Chrysler Sebring) Sometimes when I accelerate my RPM's increase into the red zone. Why?

Question 1
(Re: 1995 Chrysler Sebring) Sometimes when I accelerate my RPM's increase into the red zone. Why?...  Please give advice. Any help is greatly appreciated. When this does happen the car will only reach to about 55 mph. If I shut it off and let it sit for a minute it will usually drive okay again. What is going on??? Thank you
I had the transmission checked and was told it was fine.

Answers
1)   your car is getting old. just learn to not accelerate as fast. - brothafromanothamotha

2)   If it is a stick shift, you aren't shifting the gears.... if it's an automatic, the transmission isn't shifting itself properly, or you have the selector in the wrong position..... - Sophie B

3)   I'm assuming that you aren't flooring the gas pedal when this happens? It sounds like a transmission problem, most likely the valve body or some other shifting mechanism isn't working correctly. For some reason this problem won't allow the car to shift out of second gear. Take it to a transmission shop and ask some questions. The answers are free, just don't let them work on it unless you understand that if they touch your car, you will be charged; most transmission work isn't cheap.

Also, don't let the car hit the redline like that...on an older vehicle especially, this could cause engine problems or failure. :( - Mitch

4)   Ok I'm assuming this is an automatic transmission and not manual.

Ive got an old ford falcon with an automatic gearbox which sometimes changes a bit oddly. The computer which controls this on your car must be malfunctioning.

Its either that or, make sure you have the gear stick in the 'Drive' position because most automatic cars let you put it in gear 1, 2, or 3 which means it will not change out of that gear and keep climbing in rpm.. so just check yours is properly in 'D' for Drive. - Phillip

5)   Its in limp in mode, meaning that there is something wrong with your trans and the trans computer dosent like it and sticks you car in second gear, then when you shut the engine off and the computer goes through a power down mode the limp in mode is gone till the problem happens again and you better had get it fixed before you cause major damage to the trans or engine - rick b

6)   If the car is equipped with a stick shift (manual transmission with clutch) then it could be that the clutch is nearly worn out and needs replacement.

If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission and your are seeing the RPM going into the red zone without the car really accelerating quickly, then there is something wrong with the transmission. I know that you have had it checked, but you said the problem is intermittent. Intermittent problems are very hard to pin down. Also, you say the problem only happens with the engine fully warmed up, so checking it when it is cold will not find the problem either. Case in point, a friend with a Ford Focus was having problems with his transmission. It would suddenly jerk and shudder when he was slowing down, but it would only do it once in a while, and only when the car was really warmed up. The mechanic could find no problems with it, until he drove it on the interstate for more than 30 minutes. Only after 30 minutes at those speeds would the problem show up. To fix it they had to rebuild the entire transmission under warranty from Ford - about $1500 worth or work to fix a defect. Take it to a dealer and tell them exactly when, how long, etc. the issue shows up and they will have a better chance of finding the problem. - howard

Question 2
Chrysler Se Bring back right tire making grinding noises.. What could this mean?...  I have a Chrysler Se bring, and when I come to stop at red lights/stop signs my back right tire starts to make a grinding noise. Sometimes it will do it and sometimes it won't.. What cold it be?

Answers
1)   Maybe its a bent rim, loose wheel, or bad suspension - Mario

2)   most likly you need new breaks or somethings wrong with your tc - jim

3)   Could be a brake pad,or brake calibers could be too tight - veronica2616

4)   I changed the pads and drums on the back axles lately and it does happen with me ever since. I think it's just in the beginning when they're new when it happens. I don't know what else could make the noise. - Ivo

5)   I suggest you check the rear brakes particularly the right side, sounds like "metal on metal" to me or the metal backing plate for the brake material is rubbing inside the brake drum. Or if disc brakes the pads are gone and the backing plate is rubbing against the disc, drum or discs if the brakes have to be redone, do both sides.

There is also the possibility that a spring or foreign object is "floating" around inside the drum if drum brakes.

This problem should be checked ASAP for your and others safety. - Don't know everything !

6)   Have the rear brakes checked, If sounds like the rear brakes are worn. - C-Tech

Question 3
96 chrysler lhs fuel pressure regulator or what i dont know?...  what should i do i have a 96 chrysler lhs and sometimes it starts and other times it just cranks and when it just cranks gas shoots out of a line in the front of the engine some 1 told me it maybe a o ring another said the fuel regulator and fuel rail but on the days when it starts it takes 5 mins for the gas to shoot out what should i replace?

Answers
1)   There was an issue with those O rings leaking in the fuel rail, a recall came out that replaced the o rings and the rail if needed, I think it was the right side (your left if you are in front of the car), there was danger of the car catching fire. Call the dealer or look in the internet for the recall. You do not have to pay when a recall is performed. Good luck - class4

2)   It seems that you may have a leaky fuel rail. It may be rust, it may be an o-ring (or 2). Check with a dealership, it may be covered under a recall, if not, expect about a $300-400 bill. - C-Tech

3)   if it has a 3.5l engine the fuel rail should be under recall for the life of the car call your dealer. - Steve

4)   u should try cleaning ur fuel filter or try some gas treatment - Kevin

5)   the fuel rail cracks, it is a composite type material, there was or still is a recall for the fuel rail, call the dealer and give them you cars vin number and they should be able to tell you . - obrienstruck

Question 5
Question on an 2000 Chrystler intrepid?...  I got a new car, and it can be a auto or manuel, and when I tried it in manuel after a few minutes a light came on. i looked in the book and it said it was the omissions light. The dealer said it should reset itself as the manuel action probably has not been used for awhile, but it has not done so so far, anyone have any hints on what this could be or I can do before taking it back to the dealer? I don't have the tools to take the battery terminal off to see if that would reset everything......
the "ommission light" is I guess the service engine soon light......
I meant the emissions/engine/transmission light

Answers
1)   Never heard of an "omissions light". Take the car back where you bought it from and tell them if they don't fix it for free you will make them buy it back. If they knob you around get an attorney. - thebax2006

2)   You must be talking about the "Check Engine Lamp".

That can be caused by a problem with the emissions system, ignition system, fuel system, computer control system or a multitude of other reasons. But it's on because the PCM has detected a problem and you shouldn't just hope it goes away. Take it to a qualified shop and have it scanned. there will be a code stored in the computer which will point you in the direction of the problem.
Best of Luck! - Dave

3)   Well one you didnt get a new car its a '00 and it is 2010 big difference, also its not omission its emission, and the auto shifter just dosent turn the light on since it hasnt been used in a long time, I would ask the person that sold the car to you how would they know? were they the ones driving the car? What needs to be done is to plug into the obdII diagnostic read out connector and get the fault codes so that the car can be repaired properly - rick b
