1)   The term 'hemi' was coined in the 60's when Dodge designed a new head for their engines utilizing hemispheric combustion chambers. It raised efficiency of the burning process, which raised horsepower. The name stuck to this day. - Pancakes

3)   I read this description many years ago. The heads of the engine where the pistons approach are manufactured in what was described as a hemispherical configuration which allowed for more compression, even firing, hence more power. The ignition would would actually ignite the Fuel with a spherical action to aid in power distribution and exhaust. - tech10

Question 2
How do you change the brake fluid on a 1989 Chrysler New Yorker?...  so my car breaks are pretty much in need of some new break fluid. my car keeps yelling at me every day i don't change it, and honestly I'm a little scared to drive it before i get this problem fixed. i would look in the manual but i don't have one, so can you just tell me where the brake fluid goes, cus that would be just fantastic :)

1)   Well, cars aren't designed to turn a light on, or tell you that you need to change the fluid. The light may be on for LOW fluid, but never "change brake fluid"

Google your car's make and modle, say, "Ford Taurus brake fluid reservoir" make sure to use "Brake fluid reservoir" after the make and modle. Also there is a cap on it, or a silver/grey lid with a metal strap arm over it... that's it.

Or take it to autozone... or some place like that, they can do it for you probably for nothing. You'd have to buy the fluid though - Dombrus

2)   I have driven since 1973. owned thirty cars. Not once have I ever heard of changing brake fluid. I have done a dozen brake jobs on my cars over the years. never changed brake fluid. I think your misinformed big time. - ClarkL

3)   If your brakes are squealing, then you need to get the brakes themselves checked out. Same if it has a brake light on or is giving a check brakes message.

Some vehicles do have a low brake fluid warning, but when brake fluid is low, it's normally due to either worn out pads, or a leak in the system, which means you need to have the brakes checked out.

While there's no easy way to simply change brake fluid, a brake fluid flush is a good idea if the fluid has absorbed too much water. Brake fluid absorbs water and other contaminants over time, and can become less effective, or even cause corrosion inside the brake system.

I don't believe in too many of the flush services sold on cars these days, but coolant flushes and brake fluid flushes are both a good idea to do when they're needed. A shop trying to sell you the brake fluid (or coolant) flush should have test strips (or other tester) to show you against a chart that shows when the fluid is too dirty or not effective enough and needs flushing.

The brake fluid reservoir is under the hood, near the driver's side of the firewall, but it's a good idea to let someone who knows what they're doing to check it and top it off if necessary, they should do this when checking the brakes. - Mark B

4)   Leah, your car doesn't squeal because you need to change brake fluid. In fact the brake fluid was meant to last forever as long as it isn't contaminated with oil or other foreign substances. As long as you use DOT-3 brake fluid you should never have to change it. The squeal is caused by one of two things. Either the front or back brake pads are worn out or they are contaminated with dust. Three or four good hard stops from 50 miles an hour out on the highway will heat and burn the dust off and stop the squeal. If it doesn't, then you probably need new pads. - Jackolantern

Question 3
Can I leave the back door open for extended amounts of time without it running down my battery?...  I own a 2007 PT Cruiser.

3)   It depends on how good your battery is. On a fully charged battery an hour with any lamp on will not damage you requirements for the starter. If you drive the car , and are constantly refilling a good battery with a healthy charging system a half hour will not hurt you. Have fun with your car and buy yourself a battery charger just in case. - Joseph

4)   If you have an interior "light defeat", which turns out the interior lights when a door is opened for an extended period of time, use that to turn out the light.

If you have one it will be on the headlight switch and rotate is either all the way clockwise or all the way counterclockwise, can never remember which way. One way will turn on the interior light(s) regardless of door position and the other way will turn out the lights if the switch has that capability. - Don't know everything !

whats causing this noise in my 1994 Plymouth grand voyager 3.8l LE?...  sounds like knocking coming from the front driver side only happens when i accelerate quickly sounds like something hitting started yesterday out of nowhere also noticed the car is a little more shaky the sound happens around 2500 rpm but only on quick acceleration i also did this while in park and i dont hear the noise only when in gear what could this be? also no shifting probs unless thats what it is

1)   sounds like old valves. might need adjusting. try running like super unleaded in it, it should quite that down. - POKE

2)   Might possibly be numerous things. Check the transmission mount, the left axle, and wheel bearing.I would lean more to the axle shaft. Have a good mechanic look at it to be sure. - Gregory A

2)   The only vehicle I remember that had a rear window that could be lowered was a full sized Mercury. I believe it was the Montclair. Don't remember anything from Chrysler that had an operating rear window except wagons. - Thomas
