CAN A TRANSMISSION FROM A 1992 CHRYSLER FIFTH AVE. BE REMOVED AND PUT IN A 1996 CHRYSLER LHS?

Question 1
CAN A TRANSMISSION FROM A 1992 CHRYSLER FIFTH AVE. BE REMOVED AND PUT IN A 1996 CHRYSLER LHS?...  I found a 1996 Chrysler LHS for sell and my 1992 Fifth Ave. still runs great but the shruts went out and they are $300.00 each. I hope the transmission will work and fit in the 1996 Chrysler LHS. All that's wrong with it is it needs a transmission. Can anyone help me?

Answers
1)   No, it will not swap over. They are completely different set-ups and will not work in place of each other.

I'm figuring the $300 per strut is either an installed price, or you have the air-ride struts, and those are rebuilt air strut prices (new air struts would be $1000 or more each). If that's $300 for a standard strut, not installed, that's way, way out of line on pricing, even the Mopar struts are only around $100 each for your car. - Mark B

2)   No the two transmissions aren't switchable but you should be able to find struts a lot cheaper then 300 bucks a piece if you shop around you should be able to find at least a set of rebuilt struts for about 300 for the pair, have you checked online and on ebay etc bec honestly 300 a piece is quite expensive unless their heavy duty top of the line struts.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you look around you might find a good used transmission for that vehicle at a u pick auto wreckers for 100 to 300 bucks or so.Not sure if you're aware of this or not but most struts sold now a days don't even come with the spring but a few suppliers have started to supply complete struts , most ppl buy the strut without the springs and use their old springs by using a spring removal tool that you can rent or even borrow at some stores and they simply use their old springs if their still good etc. - helpful bob

3)   With enough motivation, anything is possible! Honestly, I think so, with the right adapter kit. Basically you'd need to change your bell housing off the transmission and get one that fits in your car, then it should bolt right in! Good Luck! - vampyrtrivial

4)   The answer is no, Tammy. They are entirely 2 different transmissions. - Jackolantern

Question 2
what newer Chrysler/dodge has the same motor as the 1982 Chrysler Lebanon?...  i have a 1982 Chrysler Lebanon(with a 2.2 liter engine) that's i need some parts for but since all the older cars are being crushed in the junk yards i cant get the parts.. what newer Chrysler or Dodge has the same(2.2 liter engine)in it so i can get performance parts for it?
it is a 2.2 liter mitsubishi motor which was made in the Usa in 1982

Answers
1)   What the? Performance parts? Why? That engine isn't even close to what is in the newer Dodge/ Chrysler cars. Are you serious about trying to get performance parts for that car? That 2.2L 4 cylinder engine barely gets 85 horse power. - SlapStickBilly

2)   thats a mitsubishi engine,if that helps. - idontgivafork

3)   Both omni, horizon and the dodge 300. Be careful the omni and horizon had a 1.6 french, 1.7 vw-german and the american 2.2. The 2.6 was mitsubshi. Your 2.2 is made in the usa. In 1984 the 2.2 was turbocharged in the laser and daytona - mjmik1

4)   They used the 2.2 through the '80's in a lot of vehicles, and it was available until the early '90's, I think 1994 was the last year it was available (in a Shadow). Then it was replaced in the Neon with the 2.0 (which was later replaced by the 2.4).

The 2.2 was available in several models, including Caravan, Daytona, Shadow, Sundance, 600, 400, Lancer, Reliant, Aries, Charger, Omni, New Yorker, etc.

BTW, that motor IS NOT a Mitsubishi motor, it's all Chrysler. - Mark B

Question 3
Does anyone know the value of a 2002 PT Cruiser?...  I went to the Kelley Blue Book website and am having a heck of a time getting a simple answer! Obviousley I am not asking the right question because they keep sending me to a place as if I want to buy one and not just asking for the value. Anyhow does anyone know for sure?

$5,665
That's with 82,000 miles on it. You have to choose used cars on the KBB site. - Trixie

2)   Here is the link for what you need to know. You need your zip code to get this value.

3)   KBB.com - Robert

4)   You'd have to pay me to take that off your hands.

In the real world expect to get close to $5000 for it. Impossible to sell as well. Trade in close to $4k. You probably should just keep it if it's not falling apart. - Theneelster

Question 4
Why are the struts on my PT Cruiser grounded electrically?...  It does not have ABS, and there are no other wires leading to the wheel or strut...

Answers
1)   Is probably more for radio noise. - Silverstang

2)   Probably because of the different metals used the ground strap is to prevent electrolysis - the seizing together of different metals in contact with each other. - C-Tech

3)   It keeps the struts at the same potential as the rest of the car. In other words, it limits static buildup. Any time you have a body that generates friction, there is always an electric potential.
CTech is close with his answer explaining the galvanic effect where dissimilar metals will act like a dipole. Generally, static charges are greater where there is lower relative humidity in the air. Since the manufacturer doesn't know where the cars wind up going, they install the strap on every car built. - Delamothe

4)   They are there in case the strut assembly somehow doesn't get a good ground with the rest of the car. Back when the front wheel drive cars made by Chrysler first came out, we had problems with the right front wheel bearing going bad on low mileage cars. What was happening was the engine wasn't grounded good with the body and the generated current from the alternator was going through the right wheel bearing to complete the circuit to the body and back to the battery. This caused sparking within the bearing and would etch out the bearing surface and cause premature bearing failure. You will find various other ground straps on the car chassis if you know where to look. - Jackolantern
