How can I remove pin striping from my car?

Question 1
How can I remove pin striping from my car?...  I just bought a car (used--but new to me) I love. But it has pin striping along the side. Is there a way I can safely remove it myself or would I have to take it to a shop? I was able to remove a bit just by pulling it, but it's taking too long...only tiny strips are coming off at a time. Thanks!!

Answers
1)   just take the time to do it, it might take a while but it is cheapest. but there is always the shop. - Rob

2)   Use a hair dryer and warm up the striping then it will peel off quite easily in one pull! - Brian

3)   If you go to a good automotive paint store they will sell you a decal eraser...It,s just a big rubber wheel that you can put on a drill and erase that pin stripping off your car..Be careful not to use at too high of a speed so you don,t go through the paint...Also soaking the pin stripping with wd 40 will help unglue the adhesive.. - Johnny Rotten

4)   Break out the hair dryer, something to sit on and go at it, hopefully there is not a clear coat over the stripes which I've seen in the past on factory pinstripes.

It is time consuming to do but the hair dryer will help get longer strips off. Take your time, don't rush, try a fairly low heat setting first and move up a notch at a time, you can ruin paint if you're not careful. You can't do it all in 30 minutes so plan on at least one or two hours depending on the number and width of the stripes.

I've seen the "pinstripe erasers" ruin paint. - Don't know everything !

Question 3
1997 Chrysler Sebring JXi convertible sensor issues.?...  I just recently bought a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The lady I bought it from said she parked it due to the fact that it wouldnt pass inspections since it needed an O2 sensor. We bought the car at a deal. We have replaced the thermostat, as we can see that is the only major issue, since the car was trying to over heat. My question is this, since their is NO check engine light on, will I have any problems getting this car inspected in North Carolina. I know usually when the 02 sensors go out it triggers the check engine light to come on. As I say their is no light on and i know it works cause when you turn the key to start the engine the check engine light does light up.

Answers
1)   That's good, for now. Considering the age of the car & the fact it will surely light up on the day of inspection, I would double check them. They are easy to remove, but not necessarily easy to get at. You can buy for about $10 a O2 sensor socket at the parts store. - The Eagle Keeper

2)   disconnect battery for a few hours to clear old codes or go to auto zone they will clear all codes for free if a real problem exists it will get stored after driving for awhile - dave

3)   Well it sound like the thermostat was the fix to your problem. But you will also need to start and stop with about 50 + miles of driving, this will reset your emission monitors. DO NOT disconnect your battery, even though this is some kind of fix all that a lot of people THINIK will some how clear codes and reset everything this is not correct. You disconnect the battery your emission monitor will kick and cause you to fail your emission scan test until you have started and stop the car along with over 50 miles of driving. And Auto zone can not reset your monitors just by clearing codes
And as you turn on the car and the light does come on and then goes off, that is just a self check - rick b

Question 4
I have a 1997 Chrysler Town and Country?...  3.8 FWD with a 41TE Transmission. I just installed a used Transmission from a salvage yard and when I started it up, the engine reeves up and acts like it wants to go into gear, but slips out. Is this a sensor problem or did I get a bad Transmission? It replaced my old one because it just slipped and didn't go.

Answers
1)   probably the linkage is not set properly but the revving/ don,t know - dave

2)   Wrong or bad trans, a 97 41te doesn't mean a other year 41te will interchange with your 97, reason- updates inside the trans and or different trans controller, You trans part number has to be compatible with your van, engine controller and trans controller - rick b

3)   I believe you got a bad trans. All 41TE trans. have to be programed when installed but they all will have low and second and reverse gear without the speedometer working until programed. All 41TE trans are the same with the exception of the ones that have been updated because of various problems. - Jackolantern

Question 5
I own a chrysler neon 2000 and it shudders when it is in park, reverse? why? I changed the transmission fluid?...

Answers
1)   possibly needs band adjustments (tranny shop) and hopefully you replaced the filter with the fluid - 89 z71 step side 6'' lif

2)   shaking in park means the engine is not running smoothly possible vacuum leak, or worse head gasket going bad usually 70+ thousand miles - dave

3)   If you mean it's kicking or bucking or stuttering or jerking one reason could be electrical, another internally transmission related and it could be that the vehicle requires a transmission shop or dealership or mechanic to place the transmission module=TCM into the learning mode.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way once the transmission fluid and filter was changed or if the fluid was worn down etc the internal pressure switches and transmission fluid pressures change and there fore the TCM needs to relearn and even during the learning mode the transmission can stutter or jerk etc while its learning and it could take up to 250 miles before it totally relearns.Note the dealerships may have a service bulletin or recall or a program or flash update that exists involving this problem so be sure to check with them just have your VIN numbers handy. - helpful bob
