I just bought a 2006 Chrysler 300C and need to get a spare key made. Does anybody know how much that will cost?

Question 1
I just bought a 2006 Chrysler 300C and need to get a spare key made. Does anybody know how much that will cost?...

Answers
1)   If you have the original key, It should only cost two to five dollars. Usually the cheapest is to try to find a small, oldschool, hometown locksmith. - richard

2)   If it's a standard key, no chip, any hardware store, Walmart, or locksmith can make you one, hardware or Walmart being the cheaper, as stated two to five dollars. - Don't know everything !

3)   That model came standard with security key FOB's/ Your key has buttons to lock and unlock the car as well as a chip inside that is programmed to the vehicle for the anti-theft system.
You have 3 options.
1. You can purchase another FOB key from your dealer cut and programmed for about $75.00 dollars.
2. You can buy a non FOB chipped key from your dealer cut and programmed for about $25.00 dollars. This key will not have the buttons but you will be able to unlock the car manually with the key and start and drive the car.
3. You can buy the kind of key others were talking about for about 5 to 10 dollars. This key will unlock the car and turn the ignition but when you try to start it the car will start and immediately die because there is no chip to program for the security system. We call these "door keys" at the dealership because all they are good for is unlocking the car if you have locked your other key inside.
If you go with either one of the chipped keys that will allow you to drive the car you will need to take the car to the dealer to have the key cut and programmed using the Star-Scan or WiTech. There are currently no aftermarket tools that can program that model.
Best of Luck! - Dave

4)   Try calling a locksmith that specializes in the new "hi-tech" keys. It will be less expensive than a dealer. From the dealer, expect to pay about $200 for a spare key, with programming. - C-Tech

5)   If your car has the GXX sales code then the key is a "chip"ed key

there are 2 styles: a thick grey key with no buttons....60$ + 55.00 programming
a black key with 4 buttons on it 146.00 (list price) and the 55.00 programming - jlmracing@sbcglobal.net

Question 2
We have a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus that has been sitting for bout 4 yrs, do we need to have an engine flush done?...  I've been reading that it's not routine maintenance and dealers don't recommend it ever because it can mess up the engine or transmission. But ours has been sitting there for about 4 yrs, only getting turned on once in awhile to make sure it still would start. Can anybody help me? We really need to get this car fixed but don't want to waste money on something that doesn't need to be done. Thank you!

Answers
1)   change the oil and put new coolant in it, and it should be good to go - spooner

2)   Just replace all the fluids. Oil, transmission, coolant, brake, etc. You don't need to flush the engine. As it is driven, the oil will help to remove anything in the engine. You may also want to use a fuel cleaner such as STP. It will clean other core engine parts. - Ken T

3)   New coolant, oil, tranny fluid, brake fluid, and even gas and your tires are probably flat if its been sitting that long - 3Black

4)   Change the air filter, gas filter, perform a basic tune up of the wires and plugs, check the pcv valve , treat the fuel system, lube the doors etc ,clean the throttle body, for sure change the oil, brake fluid , transmission fluid and filter and the coolant , plus check the belts on it and starter , alternator , battery etc.

I'd spend the cash on the brakes on it bec they tend to warp when sitting awhile and also the tires have them checked over fully bec the tire belts can warp etc too, plus the brakes should be looked at closely besides changing the rotors pads , shoes drums etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I'd go over the battery , starter , alternator , engine block ground posts and all the grounds . clean them with a wire brush , sandpaper and a file and lube them with the special anti-moister contact lube, plus clean the ignition module spark-plug wire connections one by one. - helpful bob

Question 5
2000 Chrysler Town&Country slow to shift into [D] or [R] when first started, any ideas as to the cause?...  When car is first started, and its cold, it hesitates to get into gear when shifted to drive or reverse. After idling the car for a minute of so, it will eventually get in gear and work okay from then on. What could be causing this? Is this a sign of worse things to come? Is there any maintenance work that may help?

Answers
1)   yea its a sign that ppl haven't been changing the fluid and filter every 45k like they are supposed too......and yes means ur transmission is starting to go out....change ur fluid and filter and hope that to much damage hasn't been done already..... - Karle

2)   dodges know for bad transmission
so best you get it to a transmission shop have it check out before it goes bad
possible just dirty fluid now but if you keep driving it
its going to let you down and cost a lot more - kelly_f_1999

3)   just change the fluid and the filter. Use ATF +4. Nothing else. There is no "close enough". It should be fine. The only transmission failure I know of are the older ones and when people use the wrong fluid on the new ones. - Doug W

4)   In all likelihood, you need a transmission overhaul. A wide range of Chrysler products have comparatively short life spans.

What you are describing is typical of a transmission on its way out.

Assume $1500-$2000 to overhaul. - Mike
