Chrysler Voyager engine shuts while driving......?

Question 1
Chrysler Voyager engine shuts while driving......?...  i never had problem with my chrysler voyager...but recently the engine shuts while im driving..is their someone their who could help me..bec. i cant afford to take my car to the garage..
the engine shuts when accelerating...

Answers
1)   sounds like a cam sensor to me. they are not very expensive usually about 30 to 40 bucks. - walshington

2)   If it does it when coming up to stop at junctions or when slowing to a stop it will be the idle air control valve/stepper motor assembly. It may need a clean or may have to be replaced and it sounds like you cannot afford that. - Timbo is here

3)   Do you have an engine maintenance light on after it restarts? If so, you have a code generated by the problem. If not, then it's probably going to be a faulty fuel pump. Fuel pressure and fuel delivery inadequacy won't usually generate a fault code. Faulty sensors do. - Jackolantern

should i buy the 2002 chrysler 300m?...  im 17 and its going to be my first car it has 85 thousand miles on it its pretty clean. but i want your feed back what do you think?

Answers
1)   I would say no. Those cars have a long history of both electrical and transmission issues that will eat you alive. 85K miles might seem good, but I would still be cautious of Chrysler's from that era. - The Eagle Keeper

2)   How much money do you have for repair for the first year? Factor in an extra 1k-2k on top of the purchase price of the vehicle...because you're going to use it. - Hank Scorpio

3)   To be fair there is no car that goes without a bad Rep. The truth is that chrysler does make a very nice looking car. But the problem lies that looks are not everything. My answer would be to go out and look toward a more preferred car company. - Patrick P

Question 5
How to replace a Chrysler Pacifica cylinder head?...  I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. It broke down, and would start up occasionally but would sound terrible. I took it to the shop they gave me a bill of $370 for an engine performance evaluation/diagnostics test, and on the bill it also says "replace rocker arm assemblys" and "replace spark plug" but it also says "no service preformed (N/C)" next to these. They said the rear cylinder head was damaged due to lack of lubrication.. and that it could be up to about $2000 to fix. So I do a lot of the work on my other cars and I decided I am going to fix it myself. I know the general idea of replacing the cylinder head (I will not be taking the engine block out) but I need a little bit more instruction. Does anyone know where I could find some instructions or can anyone please help me through this process. Thank you. If you would like to help we can talk through personal e-mail.

Answers
1)   BUY THE BOOK AT AUTOZONE OR ANY OTHER CAR PART STORE RUNS LIKE 20 BUCKS GOOD LUCK - JDM ALL-STARS

2)   I can understand the rocker shaft assembly but I don't understand the cylinder head. I have never replaced one for lack of lube on a pacifica or any other chrysler with a 3.5L. This doesn't sound right. Did you get another opinion? Maybe you need to send it to another shop and see what they have to say about it. I don't think that replacing the head is going to help you. What is it doing? If its just a lifter clatter then you don't need the head for sure. Like I said, that diagnosis sounds wrong based on my experience with that engine and that model vehicle. - Mike J

Question 2
My speedometer on my 2002 chrysler van has stopped working, Is there a fuse or cable to this van?...  It was working fine yesterday, but when it was evening it stopped show MOH. Just wondering if someone knew what it might be...

Answers
1)   The speed sensor at the transmission has probably failed, there is no speedometer cable.

You might want to inspect the connection for corrosion or repairable wire damage before purchasing a new sensor.. - Don't know everything !

2)   Output speed sensor has gone bad. It is located on the side of the transmission. There will be 2 of these sensors. 1 input and 1 output. The tips on the sensors are different. - seymore d

3)   There is No cable for the speed indicator and if it's a dial indicator cluster assembly design then more then likely you can change the speed dial seperately. If you had a speed sensor failer regardless if it's either the input or output sensor the RPM gauge should also be affected. So unless both of those gauges are acting up the problem could be the speed dial or the printed circuit inside the cluster assembly has a bad connection
Note that if the speed sensor or sensor circuits were acting up or causing the speed indicator from not working , the main comp should of detected the sensor fault and the faulty sensor should of caused the PCM to turn the engine light on and there should of been a error code and recorded data involving what had occured during the error.I'd suggest that you have it scanned by a shop or parts store etc for free bec sometimes the engine light won't light up but a error code does exist.
The input speed sensor and the output speed sensor are wired up to the transmission control module via a plug in male/female wiring harness that is by the firewall and leads back to the transmission.I mention these wires bec both the speed sensors share a common wire so instead of 4 wires=two wires per sensor there is only 3 at the harness connector that lead to the TCM and it's possible that they could have a bad connection or damaged wire.Note the 2002 models might be slightly different in the tcm pin chart setup or tcm design but as I recall on those models as in previous much earlier models they all use a 60 pin TCM setup. A rebuilt/programmed TCM/TCU is about 400 bucks and a used one from could cost nywhere from 30-150 buck with you pullimg the part off yourself but again like any company some auto wreckers will try to pull the part themselves or try to order the part for you via other parts or auto wrecking yards.
Here are two of the most common faults involving the Electronic Transmission Control Circuits you'll suddenly feel very high revs and the rpm gage will peek, plus the engine light comes on the vehicle's speed indicator will be dead and so will the rpm indicator. What occurs is the body control module doesn't recieve the right signal from the PCM and TCM and thefore it kills the two circuirs such as the speed/rpm gages. The TCM will have gone into the the limp mode or safe mode and that's why if you do try to drive you'll hear high revs and the vehicle wont want to drive more then 30 miles an hr with quite high rpms.
The next type of fault is when you've experienced much as like above and then both of the speed/rpm gages seem to work but you can clearly see that even at 5mph the rpms seem to be quite above normal and even to built up to 30mph the Rpms are well above 3,000 and that really you only have one forward gear. This is why they call it a safe mode or limp mode bec the transmission control system only allows basically a emergency forward gear to help you get to the nearest service centre and it's vital not to go over 30mph or 60kph and don't allow the rpm gage to go much above 3,000 to 3,500 rpms tops. When you see both gages dead the could be mean that the TCM has some problems in the feed circuits such as the constant positive 12 volt feed and the switchable ignition turn on feed signal. Also it could indicate that either the solenoid pack is faulty or dirsty or the TCM has a poor or weak ground signal or the TCM could be faulty. This is why retriveing the comp system error codes via scanners or diagnostic equioment is vital bec certain codes are obvious clear indicators in deciding what parts or circuits are needed to be looked at or what possible tests or possible repairs are required.
There are some diagnostic equipment tests that involve basic function tests, resistance tests, ect that could help to detect wether or not a speed sensor is faulty.Just note that speed sensors are a very delicate electronic device that works via certain magnetic fields and it's possible they could get dirty. If you do end up replacing any speed sensors either the input or output sensor , always change them both at the same time and use new parts when ever possivle. Remember that their very sensitive so handle them according to the instruction manuals when working with them. There are some aftermarket parts that will work and they can be purchased for around 25 bucks each at most parts stores and at the dealerships you end up paying almost double for them but their the original factory direct replacement part.
Hope that helps and best of luck. By the way note if the TCM/TCU is replaced it's my advice to get them put into the learning mode and most transmission shops or mechanics or dealerships can do this for you and really the dealerships should do it for free especially if they charged for a brand new TCM and installed it.the TCM. - helpful bob

Question 2
The instrument panel in my 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE has gone dead - none of the instruments function.?...  From web searches it appears as if the body control module has gone bad, and needs repair/replacement. None of the BCM units I see listed on eBay and others look like what I see under the dash, where I see an assembly with the number PO4869141 on the side. My van has electronic locks and windows, which the eBay units seem to preclude. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks.
All fuses are good - in both fuse blocks. The ABS light comes on when the instruments die. This has happened on and off for some time now; last week the panel died and never came back to life. In other iterations, the panel would come back to life when I shut it off and re-started.

Answers
1)   did you check to see if you have a blow fuse ?? - Alfonzo

2)   Have you've tried tapping the dash sometimes if a bad connection this will help to diagnose it.Also many times the dash or cluster or gauge assembly will develop bad connections not just at the plug in connectors or wiring but internally in the soldered circuit boards. So if you can solder circuit boards or know of someone that could it's quite possible all that cluster really needs is to be re-soldered.Otherwise go to a U pull auto wreckers and take one out yourself that should save you cash and at the same time you can hand pick the cluster assembly, just be sure it is just like yours.Plus you might be lucky enough to find a used one that was actually replaced resently and could be fairly new or at least reconditioned.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is the grounds that go to the cluster one could be bad or the ground wires could have bad connections at the other ends where they connect up via wire o-ring connectors to different locals both under and behind the dash assembly etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way since the cluster assembly has more then likely more then one fuse feeding it and the body control module=BCM also controls the cluster and uses at times the same fuses it could be a ground going to the BCM or the BCM itself could be faulty.Note that if you used a U pull yard you might get the BCM and cluster for 50-100 for both items or even less.Like any item you have to shop around for best prices and for the best possible warranty but most wreckers only offer a full replacement or credit within the first 30 days. The last time I went for a cluster assembly for a Dodge as old as your vehicle is they charged me 20 bucks for it with me pulling the part out myself but thats a rare price most will charge 25-75 for it when you pull it out yourself plus they'd charge on the average about 30-50 bucks for the BCM. Remember the more you buy the more of a deal you can make and don't forget to check out things like extra bulbs, fuses, relays, spark-plug wires, coil packs, belts etc. Some U pull auto wreckers offer a flat price for all you can carry out so keep an eye open for them bec you can get tons of parts all at once for as low prices as 35-50 bucks. - helpful bob

3)   It's needs a instrument cluster. The circuit board on the back of the cluster shorts out. Pretty common on these. - Caddyman

Question 4

- Caddyman

Question 5
Chrysler pacifica car question?...  Hi I have owned a used 2006 chrysler pacific touring for about 2 almost 3 years now! I still have money to pay off on the car but the car has about 120k miles on it now. I love the car and it has not given us any trouble since we have had it (knock on wood). We have kept it maintained as much as we could but I was wondering if anybody would know about how many miles the chrysler would last us? I was looking into buying another car just in case this car fails on us but just wondering if we would have a lot more miles or if we don't have very many more miles to go.

Answers
1)   The Pacifica, like any car, will last as long as you maintain it. Given the mileage on it, the next major item to be replaced (if you have not done so) is the engine timing belt (if it is the 3.5L V6). When this is replaced, have the water pump replaced as well. It has platinum sparkplugs which go 100,000 miles so a tune-up is due. I suspect the motor mounts have already been replaced. The trans is the good one from the minivan so with regular service (trans fluid and filter replaced) it should last about 200,000 before an overhaul. Good luck. - C-Tech

2)   Yea I have one with 148,320 miles on it. The 3.5's are one of the best engines form Chrysler they will last forever just always watch your oil. - Maximilian King

Could one of these things been placed in here wrong or is it what i fear and its the transmission? Man im a single mom and my car is my job and ugh i just dont want it to be the transmission...........

1)   It may be the trans, however the trans may not need replacing. There are speed sensors on the trans which may have failed and need replcing. Check the trans fluid level, it could be low due to a leak. Good luck. - C-Tech

2)   sounds like the transmission went into "limp in" mode. If your lucky, it will be as simple as a sensor gone bad. More often than not, it becomes more serious. You're going to have to have it checked out.

Question 2
About the starter on my Chrysler town and country van?...  Hello,

This summer my husband and I traded in our 2010 dodge caravan for a 2007 Chrysler mini van. Well After my husband traded our 2010 in he was deployed overseas shortly after wards. Our 2008 has been sitting in our garage for the past five months, but I have been running it so that it. And moving it back and forth until he comes back this year in December. Well recently our van just shut off. We found out that it was not the battery that it may be the starter. So my question is. is it possible that we can get our old vehicle back the 2010 that we traded in because this van that we have now have not been driven around a lot and it is used. I'm afraid that this problem may have occurred before with the van we have now and the people at the car dealer did not tell us about it. We do have a warranty on the vehicle that we have now so what should we do or what can we do. Because I heard that a starter can cost a lot of money. Any suggestions. Thank you so much and many Blessings.

1)   Starters ar not that expensive in fact if u look under starters in phone book u will see someone can rebuild it, (Like starters and alternators rebuilt.) but you still have to take it out and bring it in might be 50 bucks maybe 80. The last time u started it did it rarararararara well that means it was turning the motor and surely it still ok. now if it whent rarazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz rarazzzzzzz zzzz zzz
then that means its getting shot. But if it started fine last time rararavroom then its something else.
If your battery is ok it might just be a ground wire.

Sry there is no way u r gonna get the other car back.Ask some ladies u know if there husband/boyfreind can help gl. - scott

2)   Of course you will never be able to get your 2010 van back but about your 2008 you say the van just recently shut off, was the van running and then died or you were not able to start it? because if you been running the engine once a week or less, it is not enough to keep the battery strong enough to start the engine so the main thing to do is jump start it with another vehicle with jumper cables that are at least 4 gage because if you use 8 gage or higher it will not start your engine, now if while the jumping cables are connected your van start normal then it is not your starter, you just need to drive your for at least 30 minutes in the day time so you are not using your head lights and you can also take your vehicle to an auto shop to have the battery charged with a commercial charger and at the same time they may test it for you but also have a second opinion in the event that they tell you your battery is bad because they may just want to sell you a new battery. Good Luck! - King

3)   Use the warranty. - Jackolantern

The newer type toted to be used with all types of antifreeze, I have no info on it. - Jackolantern

Question 4
chrysler town & country Transmission problem?...  Hello, My van shows the codes P0746, P1776 and P0740 with the description of TCC circuit malfunction. And the problem is that while I am driving and I press the gas to go faster or what is described as passing gear, the transmission stays in the passing gear so the RPM's are higher than normal so I have to put my shifter in neutral, turn the engine off for about 3 seconds and the restart it and all of this while the van still running which I have to do it very care full and then my transmission goes back to normal but then it does it over and over. Can any one with experience on chrysler transmissions help me? my engine is 3.3L and I believe my transmission is a 604??????? Please help me. Thank You

Answers
1)   Your P1776 code is the key to the problem. You have a failed valve body. The solenoid switch valve is stuck in its bore and causing this code. You need to replace the valve body. That is the only fix there is. I see this all the time and that is the way to repair it. - Mike J

2)   The reason your vehicle does not up shift is the computer sensed a problem, and put the vehicle in fail-safe or limp mode. I suggest you get the vehicle checked by a professional.

About the starter on my Chrysler town and country van?

Question 1

Question 3
i have a 96 Chrysler concord?...  it wont start i know its not the battery and it has gas it . it sounds like it wants to start but it just not turning over

Answers
1)   Probably the starter or possibly the alternator. - Derek

2)   It sounds like you're saying it turns over but doesn't wanna start or that it's not turning it over fast enough.I'd want to be 100% sure that the battery terminals are clean and tight , plus the battery has enough power in it.If you check the battery posts and then test the battery via a parts store etc and all is okay then you could have bad connections going to and from the battery, starter , alternator and engine block ground , plus the starter has it's own ground too that could be rusted or corroded etc.

If it's a good battery and fully charged it will give out about 12.5 volts and up to 12.9 volts with the engine and ignition etc off.Once the car starts the alternator should be giving out a good 13.7-13.9 volts at the battery posts.

What engine is in your 96 3.3 or 3.5?Regardless what engine those vehicles are known to have bad connections such as corrosion or rust and due to age the main positive battery post wire that runs into that black plastic fuse/relay box under the hood it mounts via two screws to that box internally and that could be rusted etc , plus that wire plugs into a wire going to that box just outside of it and those male/female connectors can corrode too, also the wires themselves rot internally.

I do know that the starters on the 3.3 engines are one of the best parts on those vehicles bec their very durable and seem to last for many years. Also bec I've serviced my own vehicles and several like yours besides owning my own car like yours and I can tell you they all have these problems I've mentioned that require probably replacing the battery post connectors and the main engine block ground wire.Plus any other ground or battery or starter wires , also the posts I've mentioned all need a good cleaning with a wire brush and do them one by one, including the o-ring wire connectors.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way those have a few different ground connections one below the far left pulley if it's a 3.3 and two hiding below the battery mount on the inner frame rail, all these junctions use a main ground feed wire that runs from the battery post to that same inner frame local , plus they have several wires going to them that are all vital grounds for comps etc. - helpful bob

Does a Chrysler concorde 93 have a shut off switch.?...

Answers
1)   Yes, to shut it off, you turn the key cylinder opposite of the way you turn to start the car.

If you're asking if it has a fuel cut-off switch, then no, it doesn't have a switch. It uses a relay that controls both spark and fuel called an ASD relay (ASD = Auto Shut Down), it is located in the fuse/relay block under the hood. - Mark B

2)   Mark B is right. But the automatic shut down relay works only if the power control module receives a signal from the crank sensor. This is in case of an accident and the engine isn't running, the ASD will stop running the fuel pump. - Jackolantern

Should I buy The Chrysler Crossfire?

Question 1
Should I buy The Chrysler Crossfire?...  Anyone know if these are good cars?
I have an insane need for speed.

Answers
1)   Crossfire ain't fast. Maybe you have the need for slug speed. - Hank Scorpio

2)   no, you're looking in the wrong place entirely. the Crossfire is a complete piece of junk. it may be based on the old Mercedes SLK roadster, but that's the only good thing about it. it uses a Chrysler V6, and they're complete garbage in terms of reliability. the power level isn't high at all(even for the SRT), and it's only available with an automatic transmisson. they're also heavy as hell and handle like garbage considering their softer suspension. if you're serious about performance, then they have nothing to offer you. there's a reason why these things are so cheap.

if i were you, i'd check out an older Nissan 350Z or Honda S2000. you can get a decent one for a little over 10k these days(even less for the S2000). even the Honda makes the same amount of power as the Crossfire, and it uses a four-cylinder. both cars are also lighter, have much better suspension and handling, are available with a stick-shift, and have will be a lot more reliable if you plan on using it as a daily driver. - James Dean

3)   i am a crossfire certified technician through chrysler and i can guarantee you will hate that car as much as i do - bone breaker johnson 2010

4)   Rather than listen to these people (some of them are clowns who know nothing) test drive it and make your own decision. It is based on a Mercedes Benz SLK 320 so parts are pricey when they wear out or break. The SRT-6 is a blast to drive. The interior is a bit small for me. - C-Tech

5)   I believe it only has a V6 and it's not even turbo charged. You're better off buying a Dodge Challenger SRT8 or R/T, which comes with a powerful HEMI V8 - The Great Brandini

6)   To correct the rest of these morons (excluding C-Tech), you can get the Crossfire with a manual, you can get it supercharged, it is not "heavy as hell," and, from what I have heard, it's not terribly unreliable at all. In my opinion of the car, the base model is a bit of a hair-dresser's car and may not satisfy your "insane need for speed." The SRT-6, however, IS A BEAST. - Maxwell Pepper

7)   The crossfire is great on the looks department but speed is more towards the Mazda RX-8 or maybe a s-line Audi like the S4 - Maximilian King

8)   You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net - Clay

My rear passenger door does not work Electronic my 2001 town and country. Could it be the fuse or the motor?...

Answers
1)   the problem is not going to be a fuse its going to be in the chain wiring harness that is below the door if it opens up halfway or more like a 1/4 way and stops. if it doesn't do anything than there is a good chance its the door motor a dealer can retrieve fault codes from the door module its just going to cost as much as the cars value - bone breaker johnson 2010

2)   There is probably a broken wire within the wire harness (it looks like a plastic chain) at the bottom of the door. Replacement at a dealer or shop is about $150-200. If you are mechanically inclined you can try to open up the harness and repair the broken wires. - C-Tech

3)   wires can be a problem , it could be like you say could also be a bad wire , a loose connection also a number of other problems unless you have good knowledge of this problem take it to a shop you can trust. - angelfire_leadtech

Question 2
Have a chrysler 300 and the gas mileage has dramatically decreased...?...  I drive a 2007 Chrysler 300 Touring. I got the car in March and it was doing fine with gas mileage but as of late it has become terrible! It seems like it is getting only 5 miles to the gallon. Im having to put gas in it just about every other day and it is frustrating as hell! I dont know if the gas gauge is messed up or if the car itself is really burning up all this gas. Any suggestions on what may be wrong and how to fix it?

Answers
1)   First of all you need to make sure the car has had a tune up,do regular oil change every 4 to 5000 miles... Don't carry a lot of weight in your trunk... Also make sure that your tires are all properly inflated... Theses are all points that will effect your fuel mileage... Also driving habits of not jack rabbit starts from a Traffic light, also effects it... And last try using the right octane gas... You should be alright if you do all of those things... Happy driving :} - ryan55

2)   is it leaking gas? - willowns

3)   Probably an oxygen sensor issue. When they go bad, your fuel/air mixture gets all messed up and usually results in poor fuel economy.

Usually when one of these sensors goes bad it trips your check-engine light. If you can check your codes, it should tell you which oxygen sensor to change. My Volvo had 4 sensors, 2 before the cat and 2 after. From my experience, it is usually the upstream (before the cat) sensors that go bad and of course they are the hardest to get reach. - Steve J

4)   If the car seems to be running good and you don't have any indicator lights on, I bet someone is stealing your gas or your car is leaking it. If it were the gauge, you would eventually run the tank over, adding every few days. - bullibe

5)   how about you just take it to the dealer and let them diagnose the problem...you're welcome. - cavida
