why does the U.S use the imperial system?

Question 1
why does the U.S use the imperial system?...

Answers
1)   US uses US not imperial.
1 imperial ounce = .96 US ounces - TazT

2)   We just like it and we know it and that is that. - Visualize Whirled Peas

3)   Back in about the 60's, The U.S. Government decided it was going to force car makers, and just about everyone else, to switch over to the metric system, which would make us "just like the rest of the world" This was not well received and was resisted. If we wanted to be just like the rest of the world, we would have stayed "over there"

What we have NOW is a mish mash of bolts and other hardware, some metric and some SAE. The only thing that was accomplished was mechanics were forced to buy TWICE as many tools to stay in business. - Paul

4)   stubborn , hateful Union workers, especially in the skilled trades.
WHen these drunken idiots all die off, maybe we can advance to the 20th century, let alone the 21st.

Every engineer in the U.S. is fluent in SI units and we catch hell from the drunken idiots in the shops who can't read millimeters - John H

5)   Who cares, it works doesn't it. - doane_nut

Question 2
Can't get an insurance quote on a 2000 pt cruiser?...  I've tried every website I can find (GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, General ...) none of them are listing PT Cruiser as a "make" option. I know that it is a Chrysler car but how come I cannot find it anywhere? Is the make a different thing?

Answers
1)   You have to use 2001 as the year. If yours is truly registered as a 2000, it may have been an early build. Speaking with a human insurance representative should clear this up. - JML

2)   i do think that it is chrysler and is no other manufacture for the pt cruiser. you can try www.thegeneral.com for a qoute. it may be on there - Patrick Duncan

3)   For the situation like yours,I would like to suggest you have a look here   www.Autoinsurancepro.info   ,you should find something useful. - David C

4)   Help yourself - you can check your quotes in internet, for example here - autoinsurance.maclenet.com - Jimmy

Question 3
Any wheel experts out there know what kind of wheels these are?...  I have a chrysler crossfire and searching for some new wheels to put on it. I've seen these rims and they are on more than one crossfire so they might be stock but IDK, what are they?http://www.desktopcar.net/chrysler/crossfire/Chrysler_Crossfire_V8_6_1_Startech.jpg.htmlhttp://www.seriouswheels.com/2005/2005-Startech-Chrysler-Crossfire-Roadster-Coupe-1280x960.htm

well damn!!!!
well D K that sucks but thanks alot for your answer!!

Answers
1)   they may be part of a premium package. I think they look pretty nice but i would go with some that you would not see a lot of just to set your car apart - John Wasson

2)   It comes naturally on the Startech Crossfire. The rims are Startech's Monostar, but they are a custom rim. I don't think they will be easy to find because of that. - d k

3)   These look very similar to the BBS RK series wheel, but not sure if they make a size that will fit the Crossfire. (We used to sell BBS wheels, and all we had in the RK was a 17" wheel)

Look at some different brands, there are sure to be other similar wheel styles from other brands out there.

Here's a link that has a list of all sorts of different brands: http://www.rimstop.com/AllBrands.asp if you click the brand of wheel, it will pull up some pictures of wheels available from that manufacturer. I have never dealt with this company, so I cannot vouch for them, but it's a good way to search all different brands of wheels to see what might be available. - Mark B

Question 4
Need help with 2000 Chrysler grand voyager se 3.3?...  ok i am a girl so i dont know everything about vehicles....... my car has started to over heat only when i go above 40 If i stay below 40 its fine when i try to drive on the free way going 60 it goes in between the half way mark to the H. My heater was turned on full blast still no help. I am just stumped on what it can be Thermostat, Water Pump, the fan works but makes a little noise so maybe it could be the fan. I drained my water today and put anti freeze i just changed my oil the other day, so STUMPED. please help! I am a delivery driver......... need my car : (

Answers
1)   If you don't know anything about cars, then you need to take it to a mechanic. It's probably a thermostat issue, but it could be something worse. It needs to be diagnosed by a professional. - Chris

2)   Well, lilangle, I don't think it's the fan because you only need it driving slow around town. Over 40 would have enough air movement through the radiator to keep it cool. Same with the water pump. I'm thinking maybe the radiator may be stopped up to the point that not enough coolant can circulant to keep the engine cool above 40. Thermostats usually either come apart or shut off flow altogether, however never rule them completely out as a overheating cause. Personally, I am leaning toward the radiator. - Jackolantern

3)   Yeah, it sounds like there is junk in front of or in radiator air path, or the radiator is somewhat plugged inside meaning it may be time for new radiator. - done wrenching

Question 5
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser....What is the best heavy duty shock / strut?...  Which Shock / Strut is best for a Chrysler PT Cruiser (2002) for carrying full loads?
Thanks.
This PT is used for delivery. It is loaded with much weight and the seats are removed except drivers of course. Is there a good air bag option? Do you need new struts/shocks when adding an air ride system?
Thanks.

Answers
1)   I would say that a good Monroe strut or most major manufactures. Shop around for your best price installed and compare the brochures and make a educated choice for you application. Don't forget to replace the rear shocks as well. If the fronts are worn out...then the rears are also in need of replacement. - goodnused

2)   As an experienced Chrysler/Dodge mechanic for 23 years, I would have to say original equipment. Remember, car manufactures have a reputation to keep if they expect to sell another car/truck to a customer who are driving their products. - Jackolantern

3)   NAPA Reflex with a lifetime warranty. Price is even reasonable.

OEM are not even good! They may go 60-70K miles and have no warranty, plus they will run a premium over a local shop doing Reflex.

I use them on My T&C and on my 95 and 98 Neons- Best bet short of rediculous money for Koni's
