Question 1
anyone see a plymouth super bird today?...  it was orange.

1)   I live in Minnesota and this summer I saw an orange 1970 Superbird while on a main street. They're very rare cars and highly valuable in any condition. - Greedy Pirate

3)   Yes. On my screen saver. - C-Tech

4)   Not today, but one of the service techs at a now defunct Chrysler dealership in my local area used to park his lime green one in the showroom. 440-6 with four speed. Awesome. - Jim

Question 2
what is a 1969 plymouth fury's mpg?...

Answers
1)   not very much. probably 15mpg in town. - badbill1941

2)   10-12 mpg on the city or highway. You didn't specify which engine, so I am giving you a basic statistic with the 440. - Delamothe

3)   Depends on vehicle type, two door or four door, engine size, transmission type, rear end ratio, roads traveled (rural, interstate, city/town) and driver's right foot.

C-bodies were not the lightest cars built in '69 but they weren't the heaviest either.

I would say a four door 318 AT with A/C would get 12-13 in town and probably not more than 17 m-a-y-b-e 18 on the open highway.

My father's '69 Coronet four door (B-body) with a 318 AT and A/C averaged 13-14 in town and 18 on trips. - Don't know everything !

4)   I agree that with a 318 you could get perhaps 17 on the highway - roadrunner426440

Question 3
97 Voyager 2.4L - Performance problem?...  97 Plymouth Voyager van - 2.4L - 4 cylinder - front wheel drive- with air conditioning - 251,000 miles on it - When taking off from a stop sign, engine won't accelerate no matter how far you push the gas pedal down until you push all the way down to the floor, then it will take off like a rocket, full speed. If you ease off the pedal the engine goes into the same state with no acceleration unless you push all the way down again, do that a couple times and it will then work fine no problems for a while as though a sensor or something has recalabrated . Replaced the timing belt, map sensor, and the throttle position sensor, so far for this problem, still has the same symtoms. Also have replaced the spark plugs, wires, coil, water pump and head gasket. Sometimes while driving you can feel a loss of power then power back and fourth rather quickly, then corrects itself. Other times it will run perfect with no problems. Seems like with a periotic problem it would be some sensor somewhere. Even with all the miles it has, it doesn't use a drop of oil and is real reliable except for this performance problem. I hope to be able to put another 50,000 miles on it at least. I've heard of them going even higher on this model. great vehicle. Can you help? thanks
I read an engine performance troubleshooting forum for this vehicle that led me to the map sensor and/or throttle sensor which gave the same symtoms I was having. But you're right, it was a stab in the dark. After replacing these sensors I disconnected the battery to reset the computer so I'll have to check any new codes that are entered. I thought of the fuel pump but it didn't make sense of getting full power when you push the accelerator all the way down but doesn't mean it can't happen right? The map sensor was also a preventive maintenance since I read if they go bad they can mess up the catalytic converter and plug it up.

1)   Whoh...you're throwing money at the car without addressing the most pressing issue here...throttle performance. That's where you should've started...check the throttle body and cables to make sure it's functioning properly. Replace as necessary. - Hank Scorpio

2)   What you don't tell us is if you have any codes set in the engine computer? If there are no codes set, then you may have a fuel pump problem. Hook up a fuel gauge and see what the reading is when the engine acts up. If it is the pump, remember to replace the filter as well. Good luck, you'll get those 50,000 miles and more. - C-Tech

3)   This can be caused by a slow acting O2 sensor. Chrysler says to replace ALL sensors at 100,000 miles. - Jackolantern

Question 4
What should I look for in a 440 engine block? Are there differences between them?...  I have a '73 Challenger that needs power. Ideally I would get a 426, but those seem to be out of my price range. The 440 is a good engine that can be had much cheaper. I am currently looking at a 1968 440; shouldn't this have a forged crank? Will it fit into a '73 Challenger without modifications? Are there other considerations that I should be looking at?

Thanks!

I am a recent Mopar convert from Ford/Chevy, so go easy on me!

Answers
1)   For starters try http://www.allpar.com/ and click on engines and click 440.

Yes the '68 440 should have a forged crank, look on the harmonic balancer and if it is a cast crank it will say cast crank. Cast cranks are good to about 500 horsepower with an automatic transmission.

Pretty much all the '70-'74 Challengers will take the 440 without much trouble, the biggest changes in them were exterior and interior trim. See http://engine-swaps.com/ for your needs to install a 440 in a '73.

Not knowing how your '73 is currently equipped, a brake and suspension upgrade should be seriously considered along with a good dual exhaust system not less than 2 1/2 inches in diameter. - Don't know everything !

2)   First Dont is right, start with www.allpar.com Second the 68 440 is a good choice, don't let guys give you crap about thick and thin walled 440's just don't do any boring over .020. Also if you are staying stock heads, the 904 castings do flow a bit better, but aluminium heads from Edelbrock are way better. If you haven't got a Big Block trans you will need one ( hard to find ) There are engine mount kits for your K-member so that you don't have to do a lot of work to convert it from small block to big block ( if its a small block car ). But me I would find a old stock BB or custom made BB member the Small Block will twist if you do a lot of foot to floor stuff. In more cases the crank is forged, but then there are a lot of cast ones to, have a machine shop ID it for you or, google "difference between dodge cast and forged crankshaft" Me I would get a new Eagle 4140 crank and rod kit. Will if fit with out mods? only if the car came with a big block, if it came with small block then yes you will need mods, like the example above. And like Don't said, brakes you most definitely need to convert your front brakes to disc ( if they are drum) but if you have disc you are way ahead
Good luck and dont let that car go for any reason, I did on my 71 and still have regreted it for the last 10 years - rick b

3)   All parts needed for the 68 440 swap were factory parts and are easily obtainable. I just sold 2 big block 727 core transmissions for 100.00 for the pair. I too would try to get edelbrock heads for it to lighten that 440. Those cars are nose heavy with the torquey 440 blocks. - done wrenching

Question 5
How long will a 1998 chrysler sebring last with 200,000 miles on it?...  I'm looking at a really cool 98' Chrysler Sebring but it has 200,00 miles on it. I wanted to know about how many more miles I can put on it without replacing parts or stuff like that because I don't know about cars. Please someone answer this if you actually know about cars. I don't want ignorance. Thanks

Answers
1)   It all depends on how it was taken care of and how you take care of it. - mister

2)   Like Mister said it all depends on how well it was taken care of, BUT that being said, 200K, as a mechanic I would buy it because I would get it at a real cheap price or not buy it, with the knowledge I would be rebuilding the engine soon. As you as a consumer and not knowing much about cars, I would pass.
Just because you buy it, doesn't mean the engine wear and mileage starts all over again and you are buying someone else very used car, Expect problems - rick b

3)   it depends if you keep it maintneced or not i have seen vehicles with over 600.00 miles on it and all the owner did was keep it serviced.it will last as long as you want it to as long as you keep tuned and ready - Matthew
