Would you buy a Chrysler now?

Would you buy a Chrysler now?

We have a Honda Ridgeline, which we love and hate to get rid of, but we need 2 vehicles. My husband wants something with good gas mileage to get to work in and I want something with a 3rd row seat. We are going to buy 2 used cars and have seriously been considering doing the sensible thing and sticking with Honda. But, considering Chrysler's woes, is this the perfect time to get more for our limited budget? Are they going to be more willing to deal (come down on the price, throw in some more features?) Also, how would this impact us on repairs, would there be available parts down the line? I also assume the resale value would be terrible. Lastly, would this also impact the cost of the Dodge and Jeep line?
I don't think they are good quality cars. I've never owned one and the only one I ever even considered owning was the Pacifica, but once the reports were out, I decided against it. I am asking this question strickly from a financial gain. Will the dealers really be trying to get rid of their stock? As my husband put it, should we practically be able to say I'll give you a dollar (just joking of course).

i will never buy an American car again, until the UAW is flushed down the toilet.

Never ever, again!

I have a car that's at their shop at the moment, and if you have a Warranty, watch out when they tell you everything else is wrong just to get more money.

I have a year left on the car for payments. Once that's done, never again will I go with Chrysler.

Toyota, Honda, and Nissan will be seeing me much more :)

I've had 6 Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and liked them all. I don't know where everyone is getting that they have bad quality.

The 99 Neon we have has 105,000 miles on it and outside of oil changes and two brake jobs we've only had one other repair. Some intake gasket went bad but it was only like $400 to fix. So, at least for us, all of them have been good.

All makes/models have problems and going to a Honda or a Toyota for example is no guarantee that you won't have problems. Just check out how many questions are in YA for Honda/Toyota vehicles.

Anyway, I would so get a Dodge Challenger right now if I was in the market. Awesome looking vehicle.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a Chrysler. Just because they filed for bankruptcy doesn't mean that the company will just suddenly stop existing.

According to the 2009 J.D. Powers results, the current generation Dodge Caravan is the most reliable minivan on the market. I think it would meet your needs quite well.

I just bought a 2009 Jeep Liberty. It is the second Jeep vehicle that I have owned. I got a very good deal on it. If you like a Chrysler, check it out.

If Chrysler filed for bankruptcy.....?

Does that mean all Chrysler dealerships are closing?

Asked by: Tumok @ 2009-05-02 00:26:59

They won't be closing, pretty much they will just sell all their chrysler junk uh well i mean cars lol and after that... they will close.
SoCal Craze

They didn't file bankruptcy, they filed for bankruptcy protection meaning they don't have to pay their bills and their creditors can't seize assets without the courts permission. They have temporarily closed almost all of their factories but their dealers will remain open selling cars and performing repairs. They have a lot of cars on storage lots. That's one of the reasons they filed for bankruptcy protection, they have too many unsold new cars. In all likelihood their factories will reopen soon. The government says within two months. Many industry experts say it will be at least six months.

No, its a restructure of the corporation and to get the whole deal on what is going on look up Fox business website. All though I never figurede that the UAW and Fiat would be part of the buying of Chrysler. And the bankruptcy Judge has not OK'D the the Chapter 11 filing
rick b

many are closing - hundreds or even thousands are closing. But not all of them.
Poyzin

They are joining themselves with the Italian car maker Fiat. They won't be closing, just trying to get rid of what they have now for dirt cheap

I want a Chrysler 300 but their going bankrupt?

What will happen to my car if they do bankrupt? How about the future parts that i may need for it? And the warranties??

Your warranty will still be good,The gov't will guarantee it.most parts are from suppliers.

While Chrysler officially yesterday declared bankruptcy, however they are still in business as fiat and the government have taken control of it, so you should be fine if you buy the Chrysler 300, as well the warranties where all guaranteed awhile back.
Bravo10plt

If your idea of bankruptcy is that the doors are closed, weeds are growing in the lot, and there's no one there to help you if you should need repairs, you're thinking wrong.

Sales are down, to be sure. It's tough economic times, which leads to talk of bankruptcy, which drives down sales even more.

So what Chrysler is looking at is chapter 11 reorganization, a form of bankruptcy to be sure, but not what the average person thinks of when they hear the term.

They are saying to the creditors, those they owe money to, look, we have all these cars, and plants, and real estate which is worth more than what we owe you. We could sell all this and pay your debt with no problem, but then we couldn't make cars. So stop interest charges, and give us some time to get reorganized, and we will then pay you. This court will watch to protect your interests.

That's an over simplification of the process, but it gives you the information as to what they are doing. Yes, the dealers will be there, the parts will be there, and your warranty will be honored. If you want one, buy it, which will help them in the long run.
oklatom

Naw man you can still buy your 300 by any means. Yes they have filed for a chapter 11 bankruptcy but they aren't going out of business! This seems to be a big misconception, people are thinking that Chrysler is going out of business, chapter 11 bankruptcy just means basically they cant afford to pay their debts. So they've made deals with Italian auto-maker Fiat, Fiat will have part ownership in the Company and help keep them afloat by bringing some of their smaller more gas efficient technology and some of their own lil cars. So, if anything this is the BEST time to buy that 300 cause pretty soon they're gonna start bringing prices down in order to compete and bring sales back up, and also why not support one of our big 3 automakers?? They need all the help they can get so go for it man! Its better than buying a boring Honda or Toyota..(yuck)
Slim

If you want one, this is the best time to buy it. Not only could you possibly get one heavily discounted, but Chrysler also needs all the sales they can get.

If Chrystler goes bankrupt will i still have to make payments on my Chrystler vehicle?

Why or why not?

Chrysler is going into bankruptcy reorganization. They are not going out of business. When they get done Fiat will be a major owner of Chrysler.

All warranty's will be backed by federal government so they will remain intact. If the company defaults but there not.

Gmac finance is taking control of the finance portion of Chrysler so they can finance cars ..This was on the news this morning..........Your warranty is still intact at the dealer and continue to make payments just like you are now. Nothing much will change ...................md
Uncle Jed

Absolutely! You are not now or ever getting out of making payments! They got all bases covered.
Johnny C

Yes, even on the news it mentioned that the creditors for Chrystler wouldn't even give them a break of any sort to help them out before they claimed bankruptcy. You must pay your bills no matter what.
Abs

No you will not have to anymore !

Is it common for Chrysler PT Cruisers to need suspension repairs constantly?

Mine is a 2002. The only repairs I have needed are suspension - rear suspension, and front suspension. Broken control arms, bushings, and various members that i forgot the names of. Why can't Chrysler get something as basic as suspension right? I guess i'm lucky it's not a transmission or engine tho.
All of the work has been done by Chrysler dealership. And all of the work was done because of noticeable (sometimes horrible ) noises and clunks and changes in road handling. So i am not getting told to fix non-problems, although i know this happens to other people.

Err....no. That's not common.

If you've got broken control arms, then either you or a previous owner have been probably flying over hills like Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
skidmark_84

Bottom Line, Chrysler sucks. This is why they are going Bankrupt.

I have a car in the shop at the moment and it's a 2002 dodge neon. and the same issues I'm having as you are, but only additional is my transmission is messed up too.

I work at a rental company as well, and I've seen these cars with only 8,000 miles on them with so many issues.

NExt time you buy a car, go with Honda, Toyota, or Nissian.

I will be doing that myself next year. :)
doublea_s

Are you getting this work done by the same garage or dealer everytime? If you are, I would switch to someone else. My other question to you is, Are you getting this work pointed out to you at a tire store....... Is the tire salesman telling you that you need control arms, bearings, bushings, shocks.....because, they will tell everyone that walks through the door the same thing and it makes no difference to them if it is true or not. All tire stores do this. Its a grey area of honesty and I know I am going to get a thumbs down from someone that works in a tire store, but it becomes a numbers game eventually and selling un-needed repairs and parts is the culture of these places.
BudLt

Doesn't sound common to me also.

There is a recall on that model/year but only a very few affected vehicles. If there were widespread issues, there would be a recall on the defective parts.

Sorry you've had bad luck. I have had 6 Chryslers in the past 15 years and all have been great.
