Why are the PT Cruisers so cheap?

Why are the PT Cruisers so cheap?

It seems that all the new ones I see are 10k or lower and the used ones are 5k and lower. Is there something wrong with them?

[Best Answer]The PT Cruisers have overstayed their welcome. While they were novel at first, they are outdated now. chrysler in its usual fashion of being totally disconnected from its customers has kept building them. Now they hae too many and want to sell them thus the low low prices. And low prices of new vehicles drags the prices of used one down .

I have a 2006 300 Chrysler. no warranty. it needs transmission fluid. How do I ad it?

When you take off the transmission cap there is no stick and the entry hole is very small with no other visible place to add transmission fluid.

I am not very mechanical so a detailed description would help immensely rather than me have to pay $75 to just look at it.

well there should be a dip stick to check the fluid level, are you sure you are looking at the tranny fluid?to fill it you will need a small funnel but dont fill anything until you are sure the tranny is low you dont want to over fill it,thats not good on the tranny.
Scott W

It gets added through the dipstick tube hole which is what I assume you mean by the transmission cap. Just use a funnel which will fit inside the hole.
Howard L

purchase a small funnel that fits the hole, about $2 transmission
fluid at parts store about $4 and there ya go.
ridingorracing

you add the fluid down the neck of the tube you pull the dipstick out of.
generally this takes a funnel. make sure to check fluid level with motor running and transmission hot.if the tranny has no dipstick you need to get one other wise how do you know it needs fluid?
Randy F

you need to buy a transmission dip stick if it dont have one and how you know it s needs it if you cant check it really but you add fluid thru hole where dip stick was you need a small funnel

how to add transmission fluid video

Whatever you do, be SURE to use only the ATF that Chrysler recommends. On the older transmissions, Dexron will kill them dead. You prob use ATF+4, but check your manual. Your manual will also tell you how to check and add the fluid.
Also, are you at operating temperature? Has the car been driven going thru the gears to assure an accurate reading? If you are checking the fluid stone cold, or barely warm, the reading you will get won't be right....and how do you know if you need ATF if you don't have a dipstick to check the fluid level?
My gut feeling is that being such a new car, it shouldn't need ATF to be added. I suspect another problem.
If you don't know what you are doing, it would be smart to pay a competent mechanic to look at it, as a lot of damage can be done with the best of intentions. There is no shame in that.
GTCturboII

The automatic transmissions of the 300, Magnum, and Charger are all sealed units. They have no dipstick, and have no tube for filling with ATF.

It is the most confounding thing about these cars, and I have no idea why they were designed like this.

I have a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country van. There is a ringing noise that sounds like it is in the area?

It sounds like it is coming from the rear wheel well on the drivers side. It is not on immediately upon starting the car, but seems to come on after I have been driving for a little while. Is there some kind of sensor noise or something that is an indicator of a problem? At first I thought it might be an indicator that something might be wrong with my brakes, but I had that checked out and the brakes are in good shape.

Simple, that's the "lame" alarm. You can cure it by buying a 300c.
Dr L

That happened to my moms 04 Ram. She realized part of the frame was loose. Check near the radiator. It was just after she crashed it. Have you recently wrecked the van? Check the brake pad too.
AlexandaDaGrate

That ringing noise maybe being transmitted through the body and sound like its from the front driver side under the hood, But more than likely it is a idler pulley or belt tensioner. To check, while driving and you hear the noise, turn on your A/C and see if the sound changes, if it does its a pulley tensioner or belt.

not a very good looking car in design but has a 5.9 litre v8 that produces in its hay day 389 ft lbs of torque and 177 hp put a nice paintjob and some wheels and run with it
keith b

Nice cars back in the day. Was a lower priced Chrysler, as above in price and options was a New Yorker and LeBaron.
And no it didnt have a 5.9 liter engine, they didnt even measuere enignes by liter or Cc . It was measured in cubic inches and the standard engine for a Newport would have been a 383 cubic inch displacement V-8 with a 2 barrell carburetor.
It should be worth paying $850 for. Just dont expect to use it as an investment. Put some nice wheels on it, dual exhaust with flowmasters and enjoy cruising.
FleetTech

big C body no.
Steve

You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net
