Do you think that Americans should boycott Chrysler and General Motors for closing down all those dealerships?

And causing thousands of people to lose their jobs? I certainly do. There is no expense to these auto manufacturers for the dealers to stay open. These vehicles are already paid for by the dealers. If I have to drive 40 or 50 miles or more to buy a Chrysler or GM product, and then have to drive that distance to get it serviced, I'll go to a Ford dealer that's a little closer home. Remember, Ford Motor Company turned down the government money.

[Best Answer]Yea right that will teach'em then they will file Chapter 13 and be completely out of business, close all the plants fire all the employee's take away the Lic rights to the independent dealer, have all the mechanics, porters, sales and staff out of a job. Then as tax payers loose all the bailout money that has been pumped into those companies, have our taxes increased, people go broke because the taxes ate them alive, have another depression. Then turn around and sale all of our US businesses to the UK, Japan, and China. Oh what China is at it already, trying to buy the GM line of Hummer and damn almost forgot, Fiat is going after Chrysler. With that kind of a GREAT idea Ford should send you a thank you letter.
Or maybe GM and Chrysler need to be more Lean and Mean like when they started out and was one of the most powerful auto manufactures in the world. Auh screw it they should build more dealers for you so you don't have to drive 40 or 50 miles to buy a few cars in your life time and get the oil changed

of course not what a horrible idea if people never stop buying american cars .. GM would not be in this situation but instead americans decided that crapy cars like camrys and civics were better and you're wrong the dealershp don't own all the cars they have on the lot and they have to pay a daily fee for every car in the lot
TAF187

What a dumb idea. If you stop buying GM and Chrysler products the rest of the dealers will close down too. Even more jobs will be lost.

There is no way you would have to drive 40 miles to another dealer unless you live in the middle of nowhere. I live in a small town and there are still multiple dealers within 40 miles.
emiller1998

No. Americans should boycott the UAW since they're the reason that 'good' American cars cannot be more affordable to the consumer that doesn't make more than $50,000 a year. Those 'crappy' import counterparts have been less expensive and offered longer service and greater overall durability than our 'good' American cars for years!

No way....We cannot punish the people who make the car for their supervisors bad mistakes....

Of all the asinine ideas! Help destroy America because of a weak argument and flaky political dogma, why don't you?

It's simple, really - they need to slim down, and people are going to be hurt as a result. That's the way it works in big business, yet I don't see anyone suggesting to boycott anything else where people have been laid off!

You are also wrong about the expense incurred by the manufacturers in regards to the dealers. GM has been trying to consolidate dealerships for years, but franchise laws have gotten in the way. At this point, though, it had to be done - you can't go on with dealerships selling 500 cars a year when some of the competition (like Toyota) is selling 3x as much. The more profitable dealerships can take care of their customers better, they can cut deals, etc. When the dealer is not profitable, they can't afford the cars, the advertising, etc. . . . and that directly affects Detroit.

When you have low-volume dealers competing with each other, gross profit for the salespeople is less, of course. This doesn't help motivate the sales staff, and it certainly doesn't help attract quality salespeople. With a stronger dealer network, GM will be able to maintain a more consistent operation with higher profits and more responsive customer service. When Chrysler eliminated Plymouth, they managed to consolidate Chrysler/Jeep dealerships with Dodge dealerships. It wasn't unusual for the new, combined dealerships to be selling more than the previous two dealerships.

Some of the dealers that are on the "list" have sold more used cars than new cars in the past year. Why bother using a new-car brand to sell used cars? What good does that do?

Certainly there are downsides to closing dealerships, but they arise at the local level: unemployment, eyesores, lost tax revenue. At least with unemployment, it may not be such an issue because the good people will be picked up elsewhere, especially considering dealerships tend to have a high turnover rate to begin with.

After the reorganization settles, the surviving dealerships are (hopefully) going to make more money. When you have a dealer system that's healthy - and thriving through their service dept. - you're going to have a manufacturer that's healthy.

Lastly, I might add that Ford didn't borrow $$$$ because it had the good luck of liquidating assets before things got really crappy. GM and Chrysler did not manage to find the liquidity needed for their day-to-day operations, which is why they're in the situation they're in. To give Ford kudos is laughable.

Throughout history it's shown us that casting stones doesn't really work but working together and being understanding , supportive and is what gets the best results.

It's terrible to see ppl casting stones at each other and it's not just one companies or persons or governments fault it's ppl as a whole that have not worked together or supported each other or supported their country's industries or products enough.

Funny we all desire . want , demand things be cheaper including our automobiles but we all freak out when ppl buy some many foreign products and then aspect our own country's manufactures to still thrive.

I'am not an American but here in Canada especially Ontario there are too many dealerships in some areas and no wonder their suffering bec "too many Indians and not enough Chiefs". I believe that there should of been limits established by all the auto manufactures company's ages ago when it comes to how many dealerships are allowed to be opened within a certain area or square foot mileage.

Hope that helps and best of luck.Funny how we are suffer , get poorer and the International Bankers keep making money off of our misery.

Too many cars, too expensive to buy and sleazy dealers all make me sick. This is revenge for all the times the working poor have been overcharged and treated poorly by fat dealerships. Customer service and fair prices is what we need and it can't be found at any of the Chrysler or GM dealers in my town.

What will all the Chrysler dealerships do with all their cars after June 9?

they will store them until the company refresh

Chrysler should do the public a favour and crush all their cars. The experiences I have had with a 2005 Caravan have scared me away from their products. What a piece of junk!
Bryan

As of right now, they are liquidating, so they have to sell them or eat their full cost.

If you really want a good deal on a Chrysler product, go to one of these dealerships on June 9 and low-ball the crap out of them on whatever is available. If might even end up something like an auction where you are bidding against other people for cars.

While this could change, as of right now, Chrysler is not buying back any of the inventory from these dealerships.
Stupid Flanders

Try and sell them.
badbill1941

According to the dealers testifying at the congressional hearings yesterday, they are screwed. After that date, as of right now, they cannot sell them as either new or used cars! Go figure. They are trying to sell them to the public, or trade them off to the dealers that are currently staying in business. They are trying to get an extension to be mandated by congress. They all indicated they will sell them to the public at their true net cost. If you want one, get the list of dealers closing and go in their and grind grind grind! Don't be shy. You're doing them a favor, even if they don't want to admit it.
Rudy H

I'm sorry Bryan had such trouble with his 05 Caravan. I am on my 3rd Chrysler minivan and wouldn't trade it for anything else. Chrysler dealers will have to go to the bottom price to get rid of inventory. This means you can get a great deal on Chrysler products. And GM products as well. It will be sorta like when Chrysler bought out AMC and had to sell all of their cars. Monacos, Premiers, etc. The prices will be rock bottom and the warranty will still be good.
Jackolantern

Those that offered new dealerships will buy the stock of those that are closing, life goes on.

Chrysler Voyager: How can tell when need new transmission? What is chance of sudden failure/getting stranded?

As of about four months ago the transmission for our Chrysler Mini-Van stopped "feeling right." Like it's in the early stages of slipping, but if we drive it gently we've had no problems for about four months.

How do you know when you need a new transmission?

We want to drive it to/from the beach this weekend (four hours each way)... what is the likelihood it would leave us stranded? Like I said, we noticed a change 4-6 months ago but it doesn't "feel" like it's going to fail immediately. One mechanic said "these transmissions go fast when they start to go out" but that (so far!) hasn't been the case with us.

A new transmission is $4K I hear... or $2K for re-built and we've just been waiting for the right time to plunk down the dough.

id go for it, and just drive early or late in the evening when its cool.those trannys can act up bad.like sticking in first etc.but its the beach and i love the beach. im in.
idontgivafork

I would have the tranny cooler checked right away .They are known to let coolant in the tranny from the rad.Possibly need a new rad and finally a new tranny if you keep driving it.. Also if it is the cooler then change the tranny fluid.
the pump guy

More then likely the transmission fluid and filter needs to be changed on it asap. One main thing here to keep in mind is that Dodge uses a special chemical additives that can and will wear out in their transmission fluids. These additives are to prevent slipping or bucking or stuttering and if you've ever over heated the engine or transmission or haven't changed the fluid or filter and the vehicle has high mileage I'd change them asap.

Be careful bec there are many misdiagnoses when it comes to transmissions especially Dodges , one mistake is when ppl find the transmission fluid is brownish or smells like burnt cigars that the transmission is shot.It could be but if the engines been over heated etc or the fluid is quite old etc it could just require the transmission filter and fluid changed.

Another mistake is electrical or electronic circuit faults in the transmission control systems that act much like internal transmission gear etc failers but in fact are bad grounds or bad comps or bad relays or bad sensors or bec the TCM requires a dealership program or flash update.

Another is finding tiny metal particals in the transmission pan etc when changing the fluid etc and this is quite normal and nothing to worry about , unless big particles.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I'am not joking about how many missdiagnoses there are made daily out there regarding Dodge transmissions so do your homework and heres a link that you should check out and read.Just look up your vehicle and please do read these articles their very much eye openers and written by ppl that care.http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans.html

Let me look into my crystal ball.......I SEE STORM CLOUDS!
No really you can tell a lot by simple checks, Fluid level and condition, visual checks such as linkage sensor connectors, ground straps, etc. The transmission has the ability to store diagnostic codes, that will lead you to a more exact diagnosis. The TCM even stores engineering data, such as clutch volume factor, that tell if the individual clutch packs are worn, or too tight (when a snap ring breaks, it sometimes lodges in between clutch discs, and plates, causing a clutch pack to stick engaged, and quickly disintegrate.
A few simple tests are required, First have a qualified tech with experience with the Chrysler transaxle to retrieve the codes and do the appropriate tests, the trans is easily diagnosed if you are familiar with the function and abilities of the scanner and data available.
Perry F

When was the last time you serviced the transmission? Pull the dip stick is the fluid pink/ red or dark red to black?
Pull trans pan "if trans pan has a half a table spoon of material in it over haul transmission" transmission engineers at Chrysler. If less than that amount, finish service and have torque converter and trans cooler flushed, If the trans cooler in the radiator let go your tranny fluid would look like a strawberry milk shake.
More than likely what you are feeling is the clutch packs slipping and the Trans controller trying to make up for the pressure lose between the plates. The dealer or any shop with guages can do a manual pressure check or anyone with a DRBII can do a system check and you will know, and yes if enough material gets loose it will clog up your trans cooler and over heat trans and you will be stuck, don't take chances with the family or have AAA road side assistance and tow service card in hand

Rolls Royce Phantom or Chrysler 300 ?

Rolls Royce Phantom, looks much more better then the chrysler, the size of the grill matters to me

If the grill matters to you then it's the Rolls. Anyway whether the Rolls may or may not be a better car (individual preferences, you see), but it is definately a more prestigious car.

Chrysler 300

The Rolls Royce is a far better car, but can you afford a Rolls Royce? I cannot not afford one. I do have a 300 c with a hemi and it is a great car. It has a lot of power and a very smooth ride with all of the amenities

will it be hard to find chrysler parts with the gov bailout?

I may be buying a new Chrysler and would like any/all info.

it shouldn't be being that they signed a deal with fiat, and also you can go aftermarket for your parts
Mark

Chrysler is still in business honoring warranties and will begin to build cars again shortly. Owners and buyers of Chrysler products will not notice any difference. They only filed for bankruptcy protection which is completely different than a liquidation.
Howard L

might be hard to find parts in 40 yrs or so but you can stil get parts now for cars made in the 50's so its not going to be much different really just knowing that they have not made a great car in 40 yrs an d they folding up shop woul dthink many woul dknow they not going to get agreat car for that one reason and thats a good one not to buy one at all they never been high on list is why they failing now
kelly_f_1999

No probably not.....Still many parts companys will keep making parts for cars still on the road.....When you have been making cars for 100 years it,s hard to beleive that the parts companys will drop that part because they are now goverment owned..
