Chrysler Bankruptcy - Will jeeps be cheaper?

Chrysler Bankruptcy - Will jeeps be cheaper?

Does anyone know if jeeps will have lowered prices or go on sale due to Chrysler filing bankruptcy?

The price on vehicles will only change slightly to get sales to go up, but they won't be taking a loss on them.

Maybe, maybe not. They are just filing for bankruptcy, not going out of business. They may actually raise prices to try to get more money into the company. Jeeps are very popular so they may not go too low on price.

I'm driving my SECOND Jeep.... and it certainly will NOT be my last !

I LOVE my Jeep, and everyone I know who has one loves theirs too. I did like them better when they were owned by AMC because they had BIG engines in them.... but we got to roll with the punches. Chrysler is CRAP, but they haven't done too much damage to the Jeep line yet.....
angels_harp_2000

Stay away from Chrysler all together. I have had a total of 3 now. The transmissions are absolutely terrible and they will nickel and dime you forever. I kept thinking that my next one wouldn't be as bad as the previous, but I finally learned my lesson. They have been having major problems with the transmissions, u-joints, shocks, ball joints (recalled), axle shafts (about to be recalled), etc.

Are Chrysler's Poorly Built Cars?

I like the way chrysler's look and I like their frames but most american cars are poorly built, so is Chrysler one of the poorly built american cars. I mean I see them everywhere, I can't turn my head without seeing a Chrysler (I see tons of PT Cruisers and Town & Countries) but are they poorly built?

check the reliability ratings at consumer reports. They were pretty bad cars in the 80s and 90s. I think the newer ones are much better
timothy p

Chrysler are well built cars, that is why you do see a lot of them. Yes the imports are better. because of electrical and the QC standards they put on the final assembly. As far as SAMS comment on how they bend so easy when her husband hit a tree, there is a thing called crumple zone so that the car absorbs the energy of impact so her husband is not a quadriplegic, all cars are designed to crumple to protect the driver and passengers. And the other guy quotes the 80-90 consumer report, Hummmm so why does all of the chrysler products including Jeep have more 5 star crash ratings on Chrysler models than any other car manufacture other than, MBZ, BMW, and 2000 cooper model line? But he is right about the newer cars getting better, and yes Chrysler could do better, but then they all can
And almost all Chrysler cars other than the trucks and viper the frames are uni body.

Right now Chrysler LLC is a privately held company by Cerebus capital management. You will have to contact Cerebus to make and investment or wait until Chrysler is sold again and then publicly traded. This will probably happen in a few years.
C-Tech

Like C-Tech said Cerebus owns controlling shares of Chrysler not MBZ or even Chrysler themselves. And ever since MBZ owned Chrysler. Chrysler was off the NASDAQ 500 because you cant be on the 500 if you are a foreign held company. And since Cerebus owns controlling shares of Chrysler. Chrysler cant be listed. go to Scottrade, e-trade or even TD waterhouse and put in Chrysler it will not come up

Going bankrupt does not mean going out of business. Your car will be fine, They should still cover warranty. It just means they have to restructure by cutting expenses, and proving they can make a profit. They can come out of bankruptcy.
Car in

Like all other government program, it will take months to get it in the shop and the tail lights will cost thousand of dollars. It will not be long before we have only government cars and government medicine, government food, etc, etc.

why does the serpentine belt keep shredding on my 1996 chrysler town and country?

I have had my van for 4 years now. It just hit 200,000 miles about 4 weeks ago. Within 50 miles my serpentine belt broke into shreds. we replaced it but still heard noises. My husband replaced it and removed a guard near it thinking that the guard was bumping the water pump and it was cutting it. It drove fine for a few weeks, then today it shredded while I was driving.

Idler or tensioner pulley is bad.
jumbobret

could be a bad idle tensioner, or maybe some other type of pulley. Maybe you have a bad water pump, somehow wearing the belt down quick, or something. Check the tension of the belt when cold. That might show or eliminate something wrong with the tensioner.
musicalgreasemonkey

look for the roughness now/examine all surfaces/they have to be smooth
ken k

Check the belt to be sure it is running true on all pulleys, if the belt is "walking" on a pulley, especially one that is ribbed, it will be more apt to destroy itself.

And by all means check the tension idler to be sure it is keeping the proper tension on the belt and is moving freely as it should.
Don't know everything !

check all the pulleys to make sure they are turning freely.
paschal d

Remove the belt and manually turn each pulley by hand. This will tell you if one of them is sticking, grinding, or wobbling. Also make sure the pulleys all line up straight with each other. Make sure one pulley isn't sticking out further than the rest.

ken k

The Crossfire is actually a rebadged Mercedes. It was made in Germany by Mercedes with 0% American parts. So its not really that relevent how bad/good Chrysler is in this situation.

But since you asked...

Chrysler is the most horrible god-awful disgrace of a motor vehicle manufacturer to cross this earth since the car was invented way back in the 1800s. I have never known any Chrysler to perform reliably, and I live in Michigan where everyone owns them! My friend has a PT Cruiser and he took it in 11 times for 11 different issues under his warranty and it has been nothing but trouble ever since. My uncle has a 300C, and the rear axle actually dropped out of the car when it was under warranty. My neighbor bought a new Sebring, brought it home and found it wouldn't start. It had to be towed back to the dealer twice, and when they brought it back, it still didn't start. They gave her a new one (a different color, so i know it is definitely a different Sebring) and two mornings later... CLICK, CLICK, CLICK, the damn thing would not start. She had that one towed back twice until she said "thanks, but no thanks" and left it there, opting instead to order a Fusion.

My best friend is an electrical engineer at Chrysler's Auburn Hills headquarters and he told me never ever to buy one, as did my cousin who works at Chrysler's logistics department. They have seen first-hand the "lowest bid wins" mentality of the purchasing department that has whisked away any resemblance the new Chrysler of today has to the wonderful, storied legacy of Chrysler in the past.

My 2001 pt cruiser is running hot what is it?

I have a 2001 pt cruiser... it has like 85,000 miles on it... I had to get a new radiator put on it a few months ago because my daughter hit a raccoon and it put a hole in the old radiator...My brother and husband put the radiator on it because it was too expensive at a shop. Now it is starting to make bubbling noises and it acts like it wants to run hot...My brother told me to out water in it and it helped a little....and now its bubbling and going all the way near the hot temperature.....And it started making a ratteling noise and then it just quit and has a burnt smell but that time it didn't overheat....What could this be????? What should I do????? Some people say the radiatior needs flushing. Idk???? Any Clue?????? PLEASE HELP

Just straight water is in it? Sounds like it is overheating.
Joe

I'd buy yourself a anti-freeze tester , it tell how good the quality of the anti-freeze is and also you'd know how much distilled water and anti-freeze to put in it.Be sure you use the factory recommended coolant and don't mix it more then 50/50.

The bubbling issue etc could be from an air bubble in the system there should be a air bleeder valve by the rad hose by the thermostat housing. Once you've the proper coolant level and mixture in it start the engine watch the temp gauges on it while you wait for it to warm up , then open the bleeder valve until you see only coolant coming from it, plus do that a few times once the coolant has circulated.

You should make sure that the thermostat is checked on it , plus when replacing a rad you really should change the coolant and the thermostat on it.Be sure once it sitting idling to watch and listen for the fan to engage , if it doesn't it could be a fuse or relay or temperature sensor or fan problem or a wiring issue.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way be extra cautious when dealing with this stuff and another way to bleed the system is to leave the rad cap off watch stand back and wait for the air bubbles to be forced out then shut the engine off , wait a bit put and allow the coolant to settle , and cool down , then top it off again etc.
helpful bob

I am going to let you know I am no expert however I have had my PT for about 4 years now. I had to replace the radiator also. I did the same as you I knew someone who could do it and they replaced it for me. Make sure you 'burp' the radiator to get all the air bubbles out. The air bubbles can cause that noise when you power the engine off. Also, your radiator probably does need to be flushed, asking the person you trusted to put the radiator in, ask them to flush and redo the coolant and all that. Make sure you don't put the coolant in the engine when it is warm, that could also cause more air bubbles.

It slipped off? It needs to be replaced, and probably the tensioner needs to be replaced as well. If you messed with it and it came off, that's different. It just needs to be threaded back on starting at the tensioner. It's in any decent shop manual. Just go an auto parts store and red that part if you need to and don't want to buy the book. I'd buy one if I were you.
Rudy H

There are long skinny special tools made to fight those tensioners.
done wrenching

It uses a 15mm box in wrench (preferably with a pipe extension for leverage over the end) You put the wrench on the bolt that holds the tension-er pulley on and pull down to loosen the tension-er to take the belt off or put it on. If the belt is coming of on it's on, you need a new tension-er and a new belt as well. The tension-er is bolted on to the front cover of the motor with another 15mm nut from the back side.

Asked by: NOTORIOUS NEUTRAL AGUILA @ 2009-04-26 04:23:48

[Best Answer]Well I'am glad neither you or anybodyelse was hurt. The amount of time you get the rental for and when depends on how quickly the insurance company works and how presistant you're with them.

So say the car is declared by you not driveable for example they should either pay or reenburse you for the towing bill to get to the right garage to aprraise it or the insurance adjuster can come to look at the car and tell you if it's a right off or will be fixed , then you can select a shop or have them select one to get the car sent to.

But basically from the time you have no driveable vehicle you should have a rental car , so you could just call and should of already called the insurabce company and declare the car undriveable and ask for a rental asap.On the average most ppl that end up with car rentals due to insurance coverage or work done on their vehicles etc they get them for about 10 days not much longer though.
The type of insurance you have will state if any deductables and whatever the repair damages are you'll have to pay that deductable on.Also if the rental is issued once you sign that contract demanding on the type of coverage you have and mostly your local state laws etc you may end up paying a daily insurance coverage rate on the rental.Sometimes you're own insurance is used therefore no need for the sep car insurance coverage expensenses but on avgerage it's a good 12 to 16 bucks per day.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way remember that the insurance agents etc are working for you bec you help pay their wages etc too so be sure not to hestitate in asking them all the questions you're concerned about.

This is all in your insurance contract. most deductibles are around 500 to 1000. depending on you complete coverage. many companies will allow a rental, and attempt to put you in something comparable to what you are currently driving.

This is a very horrible car, mechanical wise. Yes it is very comfortable but they have HORRIBLE transmission problems, from what i've seen and worked on. Like the previous people said, but a Japanese manufactured vehicle. A Toyota Camry will be your best bet.

Absolutely Not. It has been rated the worst reliable car several years in a row.

It's not.

I love all the Sebring haters out there! This just drives the price of those used Camry's and Accord's through the ceiling (by the way ask all those old Honda owners how much it cost to replace the electronic motor mount, or rebuild the trans in those 3.0 V6 Accord's) The used car dealers love it! The important thing is to check out ANY used car before you buy it. Test drive it, let it idle when the engine is hot (if there are any leaks, you'll see it). Stay away from the Sebring Coupes, they are pretty but expensive to repair and maintain. The sedans are better, The 4cyl get good mileage and are easy to maintain. The 2.7L V6 is reliable but you MUST change the oil regularly. Some of interior trim chrome will peel, but that won't leave you stranded. Good luck.
C-Tech

I have a 1999 Sebring (convertible) and have never had any problems. Of course, I bought it new and have always had the recommended maintenance done on it when due. I was looking at new ones the other day, but don't really want to have a car payment again, especially in these economic times.

You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - autoinsurance.noneto.com

[Best Answer]There may be a small possibility that your cam is 1 tooth off and it's causing this error. how does the engine run? if it's running rough then I would double check all the timing and alignment of the cam and crank. If it checks out ok. You may have crossed some plug wires when you put everything back together and the computer is miss reading the crossed wires as a cam position fault. double check your firing order. another possibility is that the sensor it's self is defective and needs to be replaced.

Has anyone had problems w/ 2.5L Chrysler using coolant?

I have to keep adding just a little bit to the resevoir every 3000 miles and there isn't any drips i can find on anything. i was just wondering if 2.5L have any head gasket problems?

in what way are you losing it how are you replacing it few things so lets start open hood while motor is cold remove radiator cap fil radiator with coolant crank car watch coolant in radiator top off as it needs whilke your standing there waiting fil over flow jug watch coolant to see if and when it drops ad more if it needs then replace cap then look for wet spots around hoses and under the car and type how to check over heating car into searchbox wil help you look for signs
kelly_f_1999

Depends on how many miles are on the car and if it has been over heated. You may have developed a very small coolant leak that is being burned off in the engine, why no smoke, you may have some but not enough to notice, ( every 3000 miles) the other could be you have a small leak in one of your freeze plugs and the coolant will burn off the block before you get any drips on the ground same with the radiator ( most common problem ).
Easy way to check is to let the car sit over night and get stone cold. Get a radiator pressure tester and pump up to no more than 8 psi pressure and let it sit for 15 min. Make sure the system is full, and if you don't see any leaks, repeat the process 4 or 5 times, and if still no leaks but you are loosing coolant, its your head gasket
rick b

Yes, the 2.5 has head gasket problems usually around 95,000-105,000 miles. I've had to replace two, one on an '89 Sundance at 98,000 and the other on a '92 Spirit at 103,000. And I've spoken to others that have had head gaskets replaced on their 2.5. I had the heads checked and they were good, no warpage, and the others said they had no head warpage on theirs either so it sounds like a gasket problem to me, not mechanical.

They are great little engines and other than the head gasket we've had no problems other than usual maintenance, muffler/tailpipe, plugs, etc.

Both engines were leaking into the combustion chamber and exiting the tailpipe.

I don't know the amount of your "little bit to the reservoir" but keep an eye on it, a little every 3,000 isn't bad but can get out of hand quickly.
Don't know everything !

"Great little engines" huh ?, just that they've got "headgasket problems"

Maybe you should change your handle to "Don't Know Anything"

Not really... Two of the best manufacturers are Toyota and Honda. I'd try to go with one of those. Nice sturdy cars that last a life time. My girlfriend's family is still driving their 1992 Toyota Tercel with minimum work on it.

That's bad because more than likely he will lose his job :(
if u aint first ur last

Well basically the reason why Obama didn't give them the cash bail out is due to them not restructuring their business enough. So in order for this to take place the government is forcing them into bankruptcy if so that the company will then have to totally restructure their whole basic business. That will cause them to be forced to reduce the amount of dealerships they have and also cut some models and create new models for economically suitable.I believe that this is a government playing a game of cards with these auto companies forcing them to reduce major money loosing spending and structuring habits..

Yes several people will end up loosing jobs from the factory workers to the sales ppl and others going up and down the latter but your dad has one thing in his favour that's the fact that good experienced mechanics are hard to come by and in high demand regardless.

Try not to worry too much don't worry bec ppl with skills like he has are in a much better boat then the basic factory worker etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way if you're from the USA which I think you are your president has promised to have some business loan applications be easier and more geared to help the borrowers so maybe your dad can simply open his own shop.
helpful bob

its to early to tell, if they can find a way to pull themselves out of the hole, we may still be ok
chrysti

Aside from your dad losing his job, so will thousands of others too directly employed by Chrysler, not to mention the dozens of suppliers and contractors that now do business with them.
Any automaker going under is a significant economic headache.
mokume

Bankruptcy protection simply means that they are given a break from having to pay out the money that has been eating their shorts in the first place (Unions and their constant demands for more money and less output, pension plans for a majority of people who don't deserve them because they weren't there long enough to be vested in them, etc.)

So from a business case, it's really the only prayer the US auto industry has left in order to really get competitive on a cost level with the world.
Delamothe

If they do not restructure and merge with Fiat by April 30, 2009 they will be forced into bankruptcy and liquidate their assets. That basically means they have to sell everything they own to pay their debtors. If they happen to sell one of their brands (Chrysler Jeep Dodge) to another manufacturer it will mean that the brand will stay in business, but does not mean that your dealership will still be able to sell that brand. If that happens that will be very bad for your father. It also depends if the dealership he works for changes to another brand.

CAR ACCIDENT ON 05 CHRYSLER 300 QUESTION????PLEASE HELP?

I.VE GOTTEN IN A CAR ACCIDENT , A BIG TREE LIMB FELL AND WAS GONNA HIT ME THUS I SWIRVED AND CAR SLEPTED TO A POST POLL, SO I WAS WONDERING, SINCE I HAVE FULL COVERAGE ON MY 05 CHRYSLER 300 AND HAVE STATE FARM INSURANCE , WILL THEY GIVE ME A TEMP CAR TO MOVE AROUND,AND HAVE IT COMPLETELY REPAIRED, AND HOW MUCH IS USUALLY THE DEDUCTABLE

Panic is used in any emergency requiring help, like a mugging or purse snatching. The alarm goes off and the perpetrator runs off to avoid being seen.

When you press that button, it will honk the horn and flash the lights immediately (as long as you're within the signal range).

The theory behind it is to bring attention to the car's area if you feel unsafe from an undesirable person coming up to you. This will draw attention to the vehicle and scare off the thug. That's the original intention for the button.

The reality is that is makes a great car locator in a crowded parking lot when you forgot where you parked.

Very few people pay any attention to car alarms going off, since they do so all the time. In a crowded parking lot, not many people will pay any attention since they're used all the time to locate a vehicle. At best, they may look in that direction, but that's about all.

Of course, anything and everything that draws attention to you helps when you're feeling like you're in danger.

I pretty sure the headlight for the car turn on with knob thingy to the left of the steering wheel. If so that would turn the interior lights on. Either buy pushing in, twisting it, etc.

If i was wrong just look in the manual.
azn_ryan

look for the roll button to the right of the headlamp switch.

Look for the dimmer switch that controls the brightness of your dash lights. Turning the dial one way turns on the lights, turning it the opposite way keeps all lights off in the car, even with the doors open.

It will make your car alarm sound.
Richard P

I accidentally pushed mine and it is the alarm. Just lock the doors and the alarm will quit, try it when you don't mind the noise.

I just got mine in December and love it. I got a new 2007 that was leftover so still new Sebring Limited. First new vehicle since 97 amazing all the gadgets.
shipper1948

If someone walks up on you and you feel like they may want to hurt you just push the button and your alarm will go off ,hopefully someone would see that you need help or it will cause the person to run off.
Handyman

it just starts the alarm going, its good if some kids are by your car at the park and are getting too close.
jdub

it sets off the car alarm ...right then....

useful to foil a mugger, if you are standing next to the car

useful to find your car..in walmarts parking lot

useful to warn your neighbor.. when he backs up too close to your car...

useful when you are in a restaurant, and see someone about to door-ding your car in the parking lot...

Panic is used in any emergency requiring help, like a mugging or purse snatching. The alarm goes off and the perpetrator runs off to avoid being seen.
Dan W

What's going to happen to Chrysler?

I saw on the news that they could file for bankruptcy as early as next week. What will/might happen?

They'll either reorganize (if Fiat merges with them as is hoped) or they will go out of business... (((kicking myself in the butt for buying a Pacifica last year)))
EDIT: Yes, I know it has Mercedes bones, that was one reason we bought it (heehee) and it really is a good car - I just worry about service and the like should it go under. Hopefully things will all work out & they'll restructure.
taximomuv3

They'll restructure during bankruptcy and will still be around.
done wrenching

To the lady kicking herself for purchasing a Pacifica, it has Mercedes bones, I would not let the Chrysler name plate and its current troubles diminish a good decision. I would say that the Pacifica is still to this day a good decision, particularly if you plan to keep the car.

With a high degree of certainty, Chrysler will not go under. Cerebus owns Chrysler lock stock and barrel, they are an equity group, Hank Paulson, former Fed Treasury Secretary, Goldman Sachs alum is with this outfit. If Chrysler sinks Cerebus sinks, which will further damage our financial market. It is for this reason, Chrysler fits in the unwanted category of being to big to allow collapse.
My point here, is that U.S. taxpayer must be in it to win it for the manufacturing base and the financial equity firm's survival.

The other reason is that it cuts into the manufacturing capacity of the U.S. military. Namely the Abrams M1 tank, it is a Chrysler product. At least it has been. Several high profile military weapons are manufactured from Chrysler and General Motors. Case in point the Presidential motorcade is General Motors. While it is normal in appearance, its code name is Beast. Due to it's formidable and robust capabilities to protect the President here and abroad.
Consider this hypothetical scenario. If the U.S. were to lose a tank to wear and tear of war, Chrysler folds, who builds another? The civilian automakers continue to have a role in military re-supply of parts, too.
It is for this exact reason, the U.S. cannot afford to have our automotive manufacturing prowess go down the tubes. Another very powerful and convincing reason is their is no replacement in the economic sphere for another economic engine that can help drive the economy much sooner than later. Certainly, it is a matter of repair and reconfiguration that will take shape. As a retired military service member, I can tell you we need Chrysler, Ford and GM to be alright.
Will things change? Absolutely, this is the age we live in. However, I would not lose hope in this regard and know that having a bit of faith will not hurt matters.
On a personal note, we are all facing the same type dilemma, nevertheless, we are going to be around too. Our hair may have become a little grayer, or baldness may be the new style because we have rubbed our hair out, but tomorrow is another day to get it right. I say, keep your eyes open, manage what you have in front of you, don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself.
I am certain, that is exactly what will happen.

Grace.

they need to stop buying parts that are low price and quality they use to make their cars and start maufacturing car that are what people want and can fix if they break. some of the cars chrysler and gm designed makes me wonder why they didnt put more thought and effort into it. there needs to be better style and design. its not impossable i just cant see why they dont do it. they push every thing so tight under the hood and leave no space and no one wants to fix them and if something simple like a fan belt breaks it cant be fixed it has to be towed. people get sick of things and imports are less stress. what ever happened to the cars chysler made when i was glad i bought one instead of these poorly designed things they make now. i could design a car better than them

Since the economy is failing, a lot of places will diagnose your CEL for free. NAPA and AAMCO, to name two. Go there, and get them to read the code. Write the trouble code that set the light off, and type it in google to see WTF it is.
Walter H

id go to the local autozone or advance and have get you a quick diagnostic scan,be cause thre are alot of thing that could cause a problem.the scan should show you some code to locate the problem

Car problems please help?!?!?!? CAR PEOPLE ONLY PLZ!!! 96 plymouth neon tranny problems?

I bought a 1996 plymouth neon about a year ago and it had problems so i put 250 into new filters and new plugs and a whole bunch of other things under the hood. Well the tranny has gone on it. I only put 750 into the car total..500 for it and the 250 of parts. It will cost 1500 about to fix. I'm thinking just junk it but what is the best option to take? Will I even get anything for it? Can I trade it in for say a buy here pay here type thing (I have bad credit right now) even tho it won't run? The neon just stays in neutral when you shift into drive. It still goes in reverse and the engine sounds normal I just wanna do the smartest most profitable thing with the situation? maybe buy a replacement tranny I saw some on ebay motors around 200 but I don't know the labor of putting it in and taking the old tranny out? thanks everyone for your help

car people only?

Ebay or craigslist and part it out. Neons are the new "beetles". Every part is worth some thing. Hood, headlights, taillights, trunk, doors x4! Good tires? Seats? Do the craigslist and ebay thing and you might not only break even, but come out ahead.

Mine has a little black button next to the light on each side.
shipper1948

I cant remember the exact way but this could help.
