Squeaking with the AC on...?

Squeaking with the AC on...?

I have a Chrysler 2002 Town & Country....whenever I turn on my AC there's a squeaking sound that comes from the engine, I turn my AC off the squeaking disappears. I checked all my belts & they look good to me..no cracks or damage.

What could it be?

Oil the compressor clutch with w-d 40. (That's the pump on the front of the engine with the belt attached) Good luck.

Its very likely your AC compressor clutch. It probably needs replacing.

I would believe that the compressor clutch is worn and slipping, there is a electromagnetic device that engages the pulley to the compressor, over time it wears and the air gap becomes larger than normal and the magnet cannot hold the clutch tight which causes slipping and noise

could be your belt squeaking, mine did the same thing due to the air conditioner being turned on,i just put some belt dressing on it and it stopped or you can use the aerosol type hairspray.

It's either your compressor getting ready to crater, or the belt is not tight enough. Please disregard the WD 40 comment. WD 40 is not a lubricant, it is just a very easy way to attract dirt and grime into whatever you spray it in, and it is a fire hazard under temperature and friction. Besides, putting a lubricant in an electromagnetic clutch is not going to do you any good. If the problem is at the compressor, it is probably a bearing inside the assembly, so once again, spray lubricants won't do any good.

I am going to take a gamble that it is probably an old serpentine belt that is starting to lose its proper tension. Unless you've had the belt changed recently.

pump out the gas and leave the car. It may be worth more than the car itself

I'd check the fuses under the hood in the fuse box and the relays on it , plus try to boost it too.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way bec that vehicle is a 91 I'd try to have someone check it's charging system , plus clean the battery power junctions , alternator , starter , engine block ground and all the grounds , one by one.

If it will not turn over, check the fuses. You may have a bad ASD relay or a bad PCM.

Does it have oil in it? If not, it's finished.

check all hot and ground wires,my truck did the same thing and come to find out the hot wire going to my starter was laying on the engine block and got hot melted the coating and was shorting itself out, check all connections at the battery also could be corroded.

check this web site first. You may NOT NEED a new one. They tell you the common problems with these and how to easily fix them.

You can go to a junkyard and pull one out of one there if you want to take the risk of if it's good or not.

At the very least, get a second opinion before you replace the transmission.

Seems like the most common misdiagnosis on a Chrysler product is to replace the transmission. The reasons are usually ignorance or greed (ignorance -- they just don't have the proper training for Chrysler transmissions, or greed -- they know it's a simple fix, but would rather get the larger repair and more money).

The best thing to do with a Chrysler transmission problem is to have a local dealership look at it and tell you what is wrong. More often than not, it is a problem that can be fixed without replacing the transmission, but there are times when a transmission just needs replaced, especially since your van is 15 years old.

If it does end up needing a transmission replaced, then a used unit is the least expensive way to go. Call some local salvage yards to get an idea on price so they don't try to mark it up too much on you.

Also, some local vocational schools with auto training, some high schools, or if there's a Goodwill training shop local to you, they'll often do the repair for much less than the local repair shops so they can teach the students how to do the repairs. All it takes is a call to ask.

cheap is not a word connected to the mopar name when it comes to transmissions. I used to work for a Chrysler dealership and those need a complete tear-down and rebuild that'll run you about $1100.00
Get the second opinion and if it needs it, as much as anyone wants to spend the money, get it rebuilt. Getting a different used trans will only eventually need repaired. They all need it. It's the many pressure plates inside that are not very durable. Get a good Chrysler dealership with a good reputation to do the rebuild.

I highly recommend that you don't rush into having the transmission replaced or rebuilt bec there are many issues at hand that affect how well the transmission and transmission comp work not just by themselves but together as a whole.
You need to do your homework on this problem and the only way to know whats what is starting with the symptoms that your transmission has right now then looking the problems up and asking for more then one transmissions mechanic's opinion.
Some of the small town family owned transmission shops must be best to deal with especially if their Dodge transmission specialists.Again ask questions and study up on it before having any work done bec it might just need a transmission fluid and filter change and a dealership 60 buck or so flash up-date and then the transmission put into the learning mode.
There are also wiring issues with Dodge's and a good shop should be aware and know what to look for but basically due to thin gage wire being used and low quality wiring the transmission can't shift right etc and the transmission comp=TCM can't work properly , most of this is caused by bad grounds or corroded , rotted internally wiring.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way go onto this site........
http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans.html .......it will help you to understand exactly what types of problems there are and it opens your eyes to the amount of misdiagnoses happening out there.

new spark plugs, bring it to an auto place for a tune up.

Take it in. If that doesn't work, dump it and get a Kia Sedona or Mazda MPV instead.

Diesel Voyager?

Cool diesel voyager, never heard of it, but anyway a diesel is a diesel. You may want to have the injectors and or injector pump looked at. It sounds like you have a leaking injector or your pump timing is off
Good Luck

how do i locate the ac fuse in a 2002 chrysler pt cruiser?

Owners manual.
Da

99% of the fuses should be under hood in a black box marked [drum roll] fuses.....ther are some cars [mostly chevy] with fuses in drivers door jam dash board
pedro7of9

Fuses are usually located on the driver side under the dash or on the driver side under the hood of the car in a black box.If your wanting to know which fuse controls the AC in particular then it would be best to buy a repair or maintenance manual or take it to a licensed mechanic who would know its exact location.
