2009 chysler town and country won't start?...  Had baterry checked out and was told it was good (12.8 amps out of a total possible 13,2 amps) but the only van starts is when it is jumped.any ideas?

Answers
1)   Check transmission - ATLBaller4Life

2)   Bad battery or poor connection. That's volts by the way not amps and it means nothing. Even a dead battery indicates 12.8 volts. The battery needs to be load tested which shows how many amps it can provide. A battery needs to provide about 400 amps to start a car. As a battery ages it provides fewer and fewer amps until there's not enough to start the car. - Howard L

3)   Who ever checked th battery needs to put a load test on the battery after it is charged for a few hours. If it can handle a load of 200 amps for 15 sec. it is good. If not replace it nothing works like new parts. Check the starter draw also after you get some battery. Your starter might be a problem and drawing too much amperage. - Donny

4)   Clean up the battery terminals. But I have a suspicion the battery has a dead short when under load. When you jump it and get it running, check what the alternator is charging at, should 14 to 14.5 volts. If it is charging at 16 volts, replace the battery. This will toast the alternator in the long run if charging at full capacity all the time. Hope this helps. - clowdy4

69 Dodge Charger vs 71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda!! which wins?

Question 1
69 Dodge Charger vs 71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda!! which wins?...  generally speaking, with everything being equal in a DRAG TYPE RACE, which would have the advantage??

Answers
1)   Charger!! but thats just because I'm a Dodge/Chevy guy! - nhojdel

2)   Stuff your leaving out, what size motors? what rear end ratio's? What transmission?
The Hemi came in a couple of different sizes, and the Charger also came with the same motors that the Cuda did.
In most cases, bone stock, I would pull for the Cuda all day long. - Jeff R

3)   chrysler and plymouth and dodge were all Mopar so for the most part the drive train is the same My charger had a built 440 magnum and a lot of those hemi cuda had a six pack so if you could get the tires to stop smoking who ever managed to figure that part out usually ends up in front.
Those big blocks were torque monsters when it came to frying tires. I could leave a huge cloud of rubber smoke a block long ( have to let off the gas for stop signs and such) but anyway, lots of fun, just don't let the cops catch you doing it, they tend to get a lot upset for some reason. - roger

4)   the 71 clearly wins in the resale contest. - done wrenching

Engine light is on sometimes, but not always in my 08 PT Cruiser, why?...  Im not sure if it is the actual engine light, when the car is on there is a orange symbol that looks like this --> ( ! ) under the "D" indicating that the car is in drive. Sometimes it lights up when the car is started, but sometimes it doesn't. Im wondering what could cause this. Because if something was wrong, wouldn't it be on ALL the time(when the car is on)??

Answers
1)   Pt Cruisers are very tempermental vehicles. Just because the check engine light is on does not necessarily mean that the problem is big or expensive. You should really consider having the (OBD) On board diagnostic system checked for accuracy. The diagnosis will indicated codes and causes of the problem. Many of the Pt Cruisers I have worked on are known for leak pump detector problems for emissions.

Places like advanced automotive and pepboys are very good about running scan checks for free. - Frank

2)   The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) is detecting low inflation on one or more of your tires. Don't rely on the visual look of the tires. Have the pressure checked. Tire pressure changes by 1 PSI per 12F of temperature change.

See page 5, 227, 332 of owners manual at the link for info on the TPMS. - Mike B

2)   My family owns two Chrysler 300C's, a 2006, and a 2008.

The engine is a powerful engine, a 5.7 V8, makes anywhere from 340-370 horsepower. The 2006 makes 340.

It's a great car, and not just for the engine. The car is VERY spacious. In fact, just the other day I needed to work later at Starbucks and the lobby was closed, so I pulled the 2006 up to a spot in front of the store, and was able to work on my laptop in the backseat in comfort.

When it comes to mileage, our 2006 has around 93k on it. What you MUST do is keep it properly maintained (same with any other car) and it will last. Take it to the dealer, it's costly, but it will ensure the car runs ok (no I don't work for a dealer, we just always take them to ours to make sure) - Branden W

3)   I would go with the lower mileage car - Donny

Can someone please help, 2006 PT Cruiser!!?...  last week, when i went to the store my car wouldn't start and the transmission light was on. I though huh, it never does this so i tried again and it started the transmission light went off after a bit. So yesterday!, i was leaving the driveway just made it up the road came to a hill i accelerated to 40 and it started jerking back and fourth, its an automatic. It felt like it was bogging out. Im used to power so it completely caught me off guard. Don't be alarmed its not my everyday driving habits. So it did it a couple more times. Only going up hill. To my surprise!!, the transmission light was on again. It wasn't over heating and i had plenty of gas. So we brought it into the garage, we took off the oil pan there was plenty of oil it was a little dirty and there was a steal piece, we bought a new filter. were currently installing everything. I was wondering. is there anyone out there whose familiar with these cars who could shed some light on the situation. Were worried that maybe the steel piece was a c clip or something, will this mean the transmissions done? Should we hook it up to a computer?? please help!!

Answers
1)   i dont have that kind of car but mine was doing that and i took it to a shop and found out my transmission went out i hope this helps! - Candace

2)   It could mean the transmission is failing, but it could also mean that the person working on the transmission placed it there to sell you a new transmission. This happens more often then most people realize. At this point you can just drive the car and see what happens. Replacing the transmission more then likely will not cost any more if you drive it till it breaks, there will be an additional tow bill. But due to fraud by transmission shops it might be worth the gamble. - Old Man Dirt

3)   Well something is broken in the transmission, there should have not been a piece of steel in the pan. Cut the filter open and see if there is more metal in there I bet there is. It could be a clip, piece of hydraulic valve, piece of gear, clutch pack, spline, piece of the pump, or any other important piece of metal. Yes this is a clue that your transmission is not going to go much farther before it leaves you stranded, Hooking it up to a computer may tell you what code it is throwing but this may not be exactly whats wrong, the only way to find out whats wrong is have the transmission looked into at a shop.

It might be an easy fix, or it might need a rebuilt transmission.

Take the piece you found to the shop that you want to have it fixed at to show them what you found. Also if you find any other pieces in the filter show them that too.

I would not drive it to the shop have it towed. - BigeQ

4)   Since you had a starting issue.....Corroded battery cables can interrupt the flow of voltage and cause problems, so the first thing to do is clean them with a battery tool.. - TerlinguaMustang

Question 4
Will Chrysler service a classic car?...  Will chrysler service a old 1964 plymouth car?

Answers
1)   Yes. but I hope you get an older mechanic that will appreciate the car and know what those older cars need for service. - Dennis

2)   The last thing you want to do is take a vintage car to a new car dealer. For the most part the mechanics at these places are right out of school - because they work cheaper than experienced mechanics. These guys wouldn't know what's going on with your car. None of them was even born when your car was on the road as daily transportation. There's no computer to plug into to get a diagnosis. Contact the WPC (Walter P. Chrysler) Club or a local Plymouth or vintage car club and ask the experts where a good mechanic is to service your car. - top-down

3)   No. Chrysler builds cars. They do not service them.

A Chrysler DEALER may work on your old Plymouth, but they will probably charge you more for the same service than a local independent auto maintenance shop. - JetDoc

4)   Yes a Chrysler franchise would service your 1964 Plymouth without hesitation.
When I worked at automotive dealers we would get in classic cars every so often and the car was fixed the way the owner wanted. - Eddie M
