2006 PT cruiser timing belt question?... I am almost at 80000 miles and it recommends to change the timing belt. Not some people have told me they have 180000 on their vehicles and haven't ever changed it. I have heard horror stories about PT cruisers breaking timing belts around 90000 and I don't want to risk bending rods and all that stuff.
It is usually upwards of 600 to get it replaced for my car and I have someone who will do it for 250, so I'm trying to decide if it is a waste of money or whether I should do it since it will be so inexpensive...
Any suggestions?

1) If you can get it done for $250, go for it. Why take a chance when you can get such a good deal and have peace of mind - DN
2) Change the belt and water pump! It is not a waste of time or money. If yours breaks, you will be stranded, you'll have to get towed, and it will cost you much more. The water pump is in the same area, it does not cost that much more to do at the same time, and if it starts leaking after you install the belt, you'll have to pay the same amount of money again. - C-Tech
3) i have pt cruiser also it is good idear that you do have the belt replaced mine is at 100.000 ks but its fine my mec will replace it soon my inspection is due this month but if nothing wrong with it u dont have to replace it if its cracked or worn replace it and dont go to a dealer they will sock it to you and will cost you over $500 i have mec and it will cost me around $200 that with a local shop hope this helps and god bless and the mec below works for the dealer dont let him fool you hope this helps and god bless - kingtiger_6
4) If you can have it changed for that much then do it, but I would also change the water pump and check the pulleys. Also it would be a good time to change the motor mount also if it is worn. - ludeman
5) It won't bend 'rods'. It can, however, but not always, bend valves. You need to make sure your mechanic knows what he is talking about because he will have to raise the front of the engine almost all the ways out of the car to change the belt. Not an easy task. All timing belts fail at different mileage. There is no way of telling just how long yours will last. That is why they picked a mileage for you to change it. 80,000 miles is just a safe, ball park figure. It could last 200,000 or just 90,000. When you change it, change the water pump also to guarantee you won't have to turn around at a later date and wind up having to change old leaking water pump. - Jackolantern

4) i dont know what kind of investment it would turn out to be. It could be decent at holding its value in about 10 years or so. I myself have only seen maybe 4 of those on the roads. Sweet little car though. I think they are pushing something like 350 horses. At the very least buy it and enjoy it. - Matt S

1) look in your owners manual for where your fuss are at. its unusually, fuses, were ever they are locate dd at on the veichile. not too saure on this type of veichile but its wwrre your fuses arte locatedd at in the veichile. i would take it too a garage mechanicc too figure out which color the fuses are too not pull the wrong little devill. but its l located somewhere were the fuses are att/. - Andrew Sinclair jr

3) Check your owners manual ...but not for the fuse to pull. The "chirping horn' is an option along with (usually) flashing headlights to let you know the vehicle is locked; there may be a way to select the type of lock warning or to deactivate the horn. Then again, you might be stuck.
Pulling a fuse will usually deactivate numerous items on that particular circuit ...not the way to go. If all else fails, a quick trip to the dealer should be able to produce and answer for you. - Sayswho

i was driving my plymouth laser and it turn off and then it just make a wineee sound and does not turn on?... the battery is ok, i have lights and all, but when i try to started it makes a winee noise.

1) It sounds like the Bendix drive, or overrunning clutch, is worn out. This is what allows the motor to run without overturning the starter drive, like a one-way clutch. It is mounted to the gear that contacts the teeth on the ring gear on the flywheel. The sound you are hearing is the starter motor turning fast without a load on it. - Oli
