How much will an oil change cost for a 2001 Chrysler 300M?
Also, what things will they try to sell me that I don't need and where's the best places to go?

The prices are usually pretty standard. Usually 20-30 bucks.
Jiffy Lube is great, and they've never tried to trick me into buying unnecessary junk. I'm sure if they tell you that you need something you should probably take their advice.

Depends on where you go. 20 to 40 bucks. Try Valvoline quick oil change.

Anywhere from 20-40 $ they will usually try to get you to buy an air filter , they always check them. You can normally get one for about half the price they want to charge you for it. If your doing it yourself.. Actual cost about $ 20 total maybe less.

Jiffy lube special during the week day before 10:00 am down the road here on Carson blvd in Hawaiian Gardens Ca 22.35 out the door. they will sale you anything that looks like it needs replace or service, since the crystal ball is in the shop, I have no idea what you do or do not need. But just ask to see what they are seeing and trying to sale you and say no thanks have some one else look at it and compare prices

Take it to your local Chrysler or Dodge dealer. An oil change should cost about $30 with taxes and disposal fees. They will check your tires, your lights, and maybe your brakes for free. They can check to see if there are any recalls that need to be done. You also establish a service record. Good luck.

1999 Chrysler 300m Oil Pan Threads Stripped?
I got an oil change recently and the mechanics there told me my oil pan treads were stripped. They told me to get a new oil pan which would cost my $450 + $150 labor. Is there anything else I can do instead of buying a new oil pan? Does an oil pan really cost that much? Thanks for all the help.

thats what u get from "jiffy" oil change places...rether than 400 oil pan get a plug repair kit from any auto parts store...you put in a rubber plug with a screw out pulg inside it...works great last forever and cost less than 15 dollars.
pedro7of9
Unfortunately, yes they do cost that much and more than likely that is all that you can do, but you may be able to have someone rethread your pan, i have been able to do it before (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't).

Has your car been leaking oil? If not oil pan bolts just don't strip by themselves if it hasn't been leaking oil I would think whoever did the oil change stripped the bolt. You can get a used one out of a dismantler yard then go to the parts store and get the gasket and then have them install it.
A oil pan bolt will only strip if you cross thread it which is really hard to do or you over tighten it
jeepster
try a new drain plug first, not an oversize one, just a standard one that is available at any decent auto parts store
bmwrider001
Go to your local auto parts store and ask for a strip out plug for you make model vehicle also if your plug was not stripped before you might want to seek legal advice about this as it might be bad work at the place where the oil change was done

How can I tell if a 1994 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl 3.0 L is a 3-Speed or a 4-Speed automatic?
The shift indicator has P R N D 2 1. I am trying to find out if it is eligible for the new govt CARS program.
I put all the info I had into the CARS website and it comes down to - if the vehicle is a 3 speed the govt says it gets 19 mpg and if it is a 4 speed the govt says it gets 18 mpg. Only cars that get 18 mpg or worse mileage are eligible. (I think) I read somewhere that some of these vehicles had automatic overdrive and wouldn't that make them a 4-speed?

Its a 3 speed if it was 4 speed it would read "P R N D 3 2 1"
Hope this helps
Zack
If it says that than its only a 3 speed tranny
Tiffany
The short wheelbase Voyager / Caravan had the 3 speed , the longer wheel base Grand Voyager / Grand Caravan had the electronic 4 speed automatic.
I did not know it mattered what transmission the vehicle had to be eligible for the CARS program. I thought it was based upon fuel mileage.
Guess I better go read thru the web site www.cars.gov again.
Edit added :
I went to the site and did some checking as I have a 93 Voyager with the 3 speed . Just like yours ,mine is also not eligable for the program. But for some reason the 4 speed is . Probably because the 4 sped Voyager is a longer wheelbase , thus a heavier vehicle that give less mileage.
Ok I found it:
Welcome to the CARS vehicle eligibility guide!
This guide will help you determine if your trade-in and new vehicle qualify for the CARS program and, if so, how much your trade-in is worth.
Step 1. Determine if your trade-in qualifies.
You will start by providing information about your trade-in vehicle. To properly select your trade-in, you will typically need to know the model year, number of cylinders in the engine, the engine size (in liters), and the transmission type. You may also need to know your fuel type (gasoline or diesel), drive type (2-wheel or 4-wheel drive), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), or even whether or not your vehicle has a supercharger or turbocharger.
Step 2. Determine if your new vehicle qualifies.
If your trade-in qualifies for the program, you will then provide information about the vehicle you want to trade it in for. You will identify the new vehicle using a process similar to Step 1. If you're not sure exactly which vehicle you are interested in, this guide allows you to view the results for two new vehicles at a time.

look at the top of the transmission by the dipstick tube to see if there is a shift solenoid if there is its a 4 speed,a 3 speed will have a shift rod from the throttle body to the transmission.

Chrysler minivan wouldn't start, then after towing worked fine. Why?
My 98 Chrysler Town and Country minivan wouldn't start( after driving it somewhere). Turning the key gives no response only silence. Jumping the battery did no good. It seemed to have power
for other things because the power windows and the radio still worked. After getting it towed to the garage, they checked it out and found absolutely nothing wrong and it started right up.
I drove it all day today it it acted fine but I'm concerned that it might happen again.
What things could cause this?
Thanks for your advice.
The engine didn't turn at all - NO RESPONSE
Totally silent as if the ignition switch wasn't working. No sound.

When you say turning the key give no response, did the starter turn the engine over but it didnt run?
When you jumped it did the starter turn the engine over?
Confusing details.

sounds like, maybe, a neutral safety switch problem brewing

You probably have a loose electrical connection in the starter circuit.
It might be a simple loose connection or the starter motor could be going bad from wear. It is fairly common for the electrical brushes inside the starter to wear to the point that they will not complete the circuit. And all that is required for it to work is a bump to make them connect and work for a while. But they will fail again soon if that is the problem. Kind of like a light bulb that won't burn and when you start to remove it, the bulb will light again for a while.
Take your vehicle to a reputable starter repair shop and explain what happened and ask them to check every thing out.

I'd check the battery posts for loose connections , also the starter and alternator and get the battery tested , plus have the starter tested , some shops offer free charging system tests , also check the neutral switch it could be loose.
Hope that helps and best of luck.

yes it has a thermostat. I could also be that the fan isnt working. Or the worst it could be one of the heads.
im2uncontrolable
ALL engines need a thermostat! Do not run your vehicle without a thermostat.
littlemyke@y...
yes
Steve
You need to test the coolant quality and mixture with a proper anti-freeze tester when the engine is cool , then once you know its mixed no more then 50/50 distilled water and anti-freeze and is good for at least -40F start up the vehicle , squeeze the top rad hose or thermostat hose , wait a few Min's you should feel pressure building up if the thermostat is working.Once it's running a bit watch and listen for the fan to engage and if it doesn't check the fan fuse and it's relay to start off with then it's wiring and the temperature sensor then the fan itself.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way having a service manual for that vehicle would be a great asset to have.
