my 2002 chrysler sebring wont go over 30 MPH wont shift out of low gear?

Question 1
my 2002 chrysler sebring wont go over 30 MPH wont shift out of low gear?...  all my gears are lit up and speedometer dont work

Answers
1)   It's a Chrysler Sebring... Probably safer to leave it the way it is. - JetDoc

2)   you most likely have a faulty chip that senses speed and tells the transmission to shift.

and the dashboard speedometer might be a totally separate issue. the cable for the speed might be stuck.

a buddy of mine got a 99 dodge durango. for 900 bucks cause it wouldnt shift out of 1st. i convinced him to buy it and get it fixed because i knew it wouldnt be expensive.

cost him 100 bucks and he has himself a nice truck now.
his dash also wouldnt read the speed until he went over 55 then the needle would shoot up to his current speed. its stuck but he is too lazy to fix it. - bfish91

3)   That definitely is a problem. The gears are broken, which is why you cant go over 30, but I'm not sure about the speedometer, You should definitely bring it in for repairs. - j3_cow

4)   That would be a bad VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) or a problem/wire or connection with your VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor). - AnswerRack.com

lots of play in the front end of my 99' concorde, dont know what the parts are called, plz help?...  I have a 99' chrysler conchorde xl and there is alot of play up and down on the passenger tire. WE found that the play was where the rod for that tire connects to the part that turns the wheels. dont know what its called on a car with front wheel drive. but it is the part that moves back and forth to make the wheels turn and the play is between that part and the rod that leads to the passenger wheel. i hoped i could find some pictures so when i call the mechanic i can tell him whats wrong by using the proper terminology. thanks in advance for your response

Answers
1)   i do believe you are talking about the tierod end or the ball joint - KYLE

2)   It sounds like you're referring to the tie rod ends, the inner tie rod ends are common to go bad on those. However, this should cause side to side play (like you're trying to steer the wheels by hand), not up and down play, but I expect that you were actually feeling side to side play and not up and down. Checking for up and down play usually requires using a bar of some sort under the tire while it's raised off the ground to check for play, or with the vehicle on a lift so you can get the leverage require to check for play.

You can either replace the entire tie rod ends, or just the bushings as long as the tie rods aren't damaged. This page http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/showthread.php?t=170138 has pictures of the inner tie rod ends at the steering gear end before and after replacing the bushings in them. (that page also gives instructions on how to change the bushings out) - Mark B

3)   Inner tie rod. The bushing on the inside end basically disintegrates after time, leading to not a tight connection. Go ahead and have both sides replaced, since the other one is probably going bad as well. - Shag

1952 Plymouth Cranbrook?...  The radio in my newly purchased 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook is not producing any sound. All of the dials/lights/buttons work on the radio and the car is in overall good condition with only 27,000 original miles on it. I have the original manual and it states to wait 20 minutes before using the radio...so my question is, do I have to wait 20 min with the car running to give it the "true" test of working/not working, or is there another way to determine if it is functional?

Answers
1)   In a car that old, the radio contains tubes that take time to warm up, but you should hear something within a minute. - Bill

2)   The car doesn't have to be running, you can just turn the key backwards to put Accessories on, and the radio should work in a few seconds. - Cody Johnson

2)   Get an A/C specialist to check it. It could be a bad compressor (is it better at higher rev's?), or it could be a fault with the condensor or condensor fan. - Neil B

3)   Did you evacuate the system before recharging it? If the drier was left open for a long time then the desiccant became saturated. Theoretically you can dry it back out if you keep vacuum on it long enough, but I would get a new drier. Moisture in the system will interfere with the refrigeration cycle, but more importantly it can react with contaminants and the r134a to form a corrosive sludge. That's bad!

Lack of oil won't directly impact cooling performance, but it will lead to premature compressor failure. Too much oil can also be bad. You need to evenly distribute oil throughout the system. If you lost oil and don't know how much, you might need to have the whole thing flushed and start over with a fresh oil charge. - mark32937

Recall on Chrysler 300?

Question 1
Recall on Chrysler 300?...  Is there a current recall on 2006 Chrydler 300's?Because the car I have is a 06' Chrysler 300 which I purchased 2 years ago and something is wrong with it.My car starts up but the gear shift is stuck & won't move.I had a mechanic come out to check it out.He said that he couldn't do anything because everything in the car has to be done electronically. If I take the car to the dealership they'll charge me an arm & a leg.Any helpful suggestions??Thanks in Advance!!

Answers
1)   contact a dealership with your vehicle info, and they should tell you if there are any recalls. if there is a recall, the dealership should fix it at no charge to you - Steven

2)   I just had a 300 with this same problem. The interlock inside the shifter assembly has broken. Youi have to replace the shifter assembly. I believe that the shifter was $68 and the labor was $80. It doesn't take longer than an hour to do. There is no recall related to this condition it just happens sometimes. Its not that common so its not like you will keep doing this. - Mike J

3)   Contact the dealership and they can tell you if there is a recall. Be prepared to give them your car's vin. - C-Tech

4)   You can try looking up Chrysler's head office or look for their site online use your ownerships Vin numbers and check to see if that model has any recall or service bulletin or flash/program updates related or unrelated to this problem.plus you can call a couple of dealerships local or otherwise and ask them for the info.

Try jacking it up onto some stands, brace the wheels with a block etc and put the emg brake on , you will then be able to check the transmission and any cables going to it. - helpful bob

1)   f - Ben Rothwell

2)   You have transmission problem. Mechanics may rip u off. Try this first. Drain n fill fluid (not flush). Buy high mileage fluid. Add lucas transmission conditioner. See if this solves the issue. Report back please. - Toyo

3)   Chrysler has a problem with the "shift solenoid pack". Does not require trans removal. - Dennis

4)   Ok is the fluid level good? That is the first step. Second when did you last have the filter changed? That is important also as low fluid or plugged filter can cause this condition. Next do you have second gear? If you do then that eliminatesthe second and reverse (front) sun gear as the problem. That leaves valve body issue or the reverse clutch. Those are your only options. It is not the solenoid pack as the solenoids are not energized for reverse. If I had to bet I would say that the reverse clutch is not holding and the friction material is burnt up. You will need to find a good mechanic or find a used trans and install it. Sorry for the bad news but this doesn't look very good for you. - Mike J

2)   You've been stuck in a park since 2005?! Call 911 I guess :p - stevut0990

3)   Make sure you press the brake pedal all the way. It may be that the brake/transmission interlock isn't working anymore. There's an override on the right hand side of the gear selector housing. Take out the plastic chrome-looking square around gear-selector housing, reach down at the bottom right hand corner to depress a level and that should allow you to take it out of park while the lever is depressed. Then you can drive it someplace to get it fixed.

Edited: I went and looked at my car. Removing the chrome square doesn't work. The cubby hole next to the gear selector has a black plastic liner that comes out (peel it back on the right hand side to get it started). Then you can put your finger in a hole near the rear left of the cubby hole and you'll touch what feels like a plastic tab. Press the tab in and at the same time shift the car out of park. The car has to be running so have your foot on the brake (might be best to have some help). Then you can drive it to a shop to get the brake-transmission interlock repaired. - sheltown

Chrysler Neon 1995 - camshaft or timing belt?

Question 1
Chrysler Neon 1995 - camshaft or timing belt?...  Does a Chrysler Neon 1995 mod have a camshaft or a timing belt?
okay sorry i meant: does it have a chain or a belt?

Answers
1)   All internal combustion gasoline engines, except for rotary wankel motors, have a camshaft. And most have a timing belt that connect the camshaft to the crankshaft. - Dutch

2)   Yes, one of each. The timing belt drives the camshaft from the crankshaft. - rick29148

3)   the cam shaft is connected to the crank shaft by a timing belt or chain (some manufactures use a cog system to connect the two) as far as im aware the neon has a belt connecting the two. - hotrod

4)   It has a timing belt. It is under the black cover on the front of the engine. (passenger side) It is recommended that it be changed, at least, every 100,000 miles. - Jim

5)   Your Neon has 2 cam shafts under the valve cover. It has a timing belt that runs off a sprocket on the front of the crank shaft up to the sprockets located on the front of the 2 cam shafts. - Jackolantern

Are 2nd generation Chrysler Sebring convertibles generally good cars?...  Please help. I have gotten many mixed reviews when checking other websites. People have so far either said that it was the best car they ever owned or it was a complete piece of trash. Let me know what you think.

Answers
1)   complete piece of trash. - jimslade

2)   Used cars are hit and miss, there is not real guide book as to how reliable it will be due to the fact that they will have been used by different drivers in different situations. I recommend not buying something that a younger driver has used as it will not have been cared for as well as a car from an older driver. My recommendations are to get a car fax report, and go and see the car.

Go see the car, test drive it, listing for things that don't sound right; loud screeches, clunking noises.

Feel for vibrations that would not be normal; strong vibrations in the steering wheel.

Check the heat of the engine while driving it, if its getting to hot then it has a radiator problem.

also, when test driving be sure to go up hills and try various speeds, this will test the transmission.

one final note, If the person you are trying to buy it from will not let you test drive it then DO NOT BUY IT because there is a 100% chance of something being wrong with it. - RCD

3)   I've always read that most Chryslers were a poor choice to get used (or new) due to poor reliability and quality. And all convertibles have additional drawbacks that won't get better with age: their bodies are less rigid (no roof) so they shimmy and shake, and there is the additional complexity of the roof mechanism which means more things to break. - Pearls Before Swine

4)   I had a '99. I absolutely LOVED that car. Never gave me a problem except for minor things. I unfortunately drove her head on into a tree, and she went to sebring heaven. But, I'd give anything to have another. Preferably a '04,'05, '06. Convertible. Must be a convertible. I love them. Had a cirrus lx once that was a nightmare. Then a stratus that was great. Then the sebring that I absolutely was in love with until I killed her. - auroras

5)   As I know such a car cost a lot to insure. Check your insurance quotes for these cars before buing one - carquotes.fateback.com - Richard

While cranking the car, no fuel spit out of it. There is no fuel smell coming out the exhaust after cranking numberous times. After changing the fuel filter, it hiccuped a couple times while cranking. But still continues with the no start situation. I put my hand under the gas tank when my bro turned the key and I can't feel the time fuel pump turn on. I doesn't make a buzzing noise either. But when the key is turned the fuel pump relay clicks so its not a faulty relay. I found what looks like a diagnostic connector under the hood with a single wire diagnostic port near the main relay box. Is there a way to check for other codes via this connector(s)? Is Fiat planning on phasing out the Chrysler division?...  Dodge has 12 models presently on the market or in development, including the trucks in the Ram division. Jeep has six models presently on the market or in development. Both have some high profile models coming, including the new Viper and Grand Wagoneer.

Chrysler on the other hand is just down to three models, and aside from non-specific talk of selling small Lancias based as Chryslers (and Fiat now seems to be backing away from this plan) there doesn't seem to be any plans to expand the line up, nor any plans for a coupe or anything like that could serve as a halo car for the brand, and if the Town and Country is phased out to allow Fiat to focus solely on marketing the Grand Caravan as some analysts are predicting, Chrysler will be down to just two cars. Chrysler is currently the worst performing division by far.

Will Fiat soldier on the Chrysler division when its down to just two models, or will they do what Daimler did (which killed the poorest performing, Plymouth, when they took over) and discontinue the Chrysler line to focus on Dodge/Ram and Jeep?

Answers
1)   They'll probably scale it back for a few years while they reorganize the company and get some better designers and engineers in place to head the Chrysler departments.

I would be surprised if they totally killed Chrysler off, but then again, I never thought Pontiac would go away... - Red

2)   Fiat won't make a hasty decision on the Chrysler Brand. They'll go a couple years, bring in a revamped design team, and I think they will keep Chrysler on the market. - chasm

3)   There is some chatter to the effect that the T&C will continue and the Caravan (perhaps no longer Grand) will be downsized to a Fiat platform, though I have yet to see anything that looks like a production order.

Still, a three-model line is pretty thin, and yes, they could use a halo car. The 300 refresh should hold up for a while; the 200 replacement is allegedly in the pipeline. - Windowphobe

what country CHRYSLER SEBRING came from?...  im thinking of buying sebring 2004 model car but i want to know what should i look for before buying this or any other car.

Answers
1)   As much as I'd like to be able to recommend the Sebring, because it is an "American" car, it's just not a very good choice in a used car.
If you value what Consumer Reports says: They give the 2004 Sebring a Worse Than Average rating on their Used Car Verdict, and the Sebring as a whole (all years) They give a Much Worse Than Average rating. Particular trouble spots include the suspension, the Climate Control System, and Engine and Transmission problems. Each of those areas scored a Much worse than Average rating in Consumer Reports.
Chrylser as a whole, has been stuck in last place out of the top 14 car manufacturers(14th out of 14) for several years now when given a "Total Score" for Automaker Performance. This total score is calculated from test results and reliability ratings.
I'm not sure what sort of car you're looking for, but there are certainly MANY better choices than a Sebring. - James S

i also really like the hatchback and the split seats so i can have a carseat in the back and then have the other seats folded down for more room
how are they for gas and would it be weird for a 19 year old to have a PT cruiser?

Answers
1)   I think they are ugly too. I always called them the PT Loser. LOL But you know if your parents are going to buy it for you, it would be a good car as far as the safety feature of it for your little one. I have no idea what kind of gas mileage it gets. Never been in one. If you like that sort of car, then go for it. After all, you can't beat your parents buying it for you. I, myself, would prefer a honda civic or hatchback. But that is my preference. - LadyRaven

2)   Yes theyre ugly but as a car they do the job and are pretty reliable and roomy.
My cousin has one and can fit herself, her daughter with a carseat, and their 2 border collies in it - Honey Bees

3)   I hear it's decently reliable, but it's the ugliest car to ever leave a lot. For a car with a child on the way, go with a 2000-03 Ford Focus, reliable, cool, and fast. - HAMM3RSPR33

Question 5
Can using the wrong transmission fluid ruin my transmission in my Chrysler vehicle?...  I have a 97 Plymouth Grand Voyager. I drive like a grandma and never had any issues with shifting (i did have a small transmission leak, but no issues with the transmission except for when I first found the leak - it wouldn't shift into drive or reverse - but didn't move it out of the driveway!). 2 days ago, my bf topped off my transmission fluid for me, and I didn't even think to check and see if it was the special kind for Chrysler's. After he topped it off (he used approx 1 quart) I drove for about 30 minutes and suddenly my van stopped shifting properly. I got off the highway and after stopping at a stop sign it wouldn't move, so I gassed it and it slammed into gear - I couldn't get it to go faster than about 20 mph. I managed to get pulled off the road, however I tried to drive it in a parking lot and the same thing kept happening (reverse and drive both take at least 15 secs to do into gear unless I gas it and "slam" it into gear). I am going to look into it and see what kind of fluid was used, but if it was the wrong fluid, can it be fixed by draining the fluid and adding new? or is the transmission a done deal? I can't afford another car right now, so anything I can try would be great! Thanks
The trans fluid is still full since the breakdown the other day. and when I first noticed the leak, it was very low but not totally empty (that was 6 months ago and it has ran fine since). If this makes any difference...

You may also have to reflash the computer (which is why I suggested taking it to a dealer, who will certainly have the appropriate tools). Don't mark it down as dead just yet. - Windowphobe

3)   Well if you've had the leak awhile and have added fluid in the past and all was well , then it's quite possible the fluid used by your bf may have been the wrong type. Those transmissions are quite sensitive when it comes to the type of fluid used bec they have special chemical additives designed for that make of vehicle. These chemicals and transmission fluids are critical in how the transmission shifts and goes into gear so using the wrong fluid would cause shifting etc issues shortly after being used.

If anyone you know is handy with vehicles have them drop the pan and replace the transmission fluid/filter but try to use a original replacement filter kit on it.Chances are that will help the transmission start to work more normal but keep an eye on the particles inside the pan when you change the fluid bec if it has more then the normal wear and tear tiny specs of metal inside of it that may mean the transmission is damaged.Again normal specs of metal that are tiny are quite normal for any transmission that old and don't panic if you do see any.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I really don't recommend every trying to flush the transmission on such an old vehicle. You also need to know that the transmission works best mechanically/electronically if the transmission control module is placed into the learning mode once any work is done on the transmission such as changing the fluid/filter.Many shops can do this for you some might even do it for free and also dealerships can do it for a fee so call around etc.Remember that this takes only a couple of mins to do and usually you have to drive the vehicle a good 250 miles before the transmission relearns.Note that once the fluid/filter is changed and the TCM is placed into the learning mode the transmission won't seem to be quite shifting right and this is normal while it relearns. It will hesitate or buck or kick or even stutter when going from 0-20 kph and from 20-40, 40-60,60-80, you may notice slightly higher rpms , just be sure not to push it much more then 3,000-3,500 rpms. . - helpful bob

2004 Chrysler Sebring Radiator Fan Not Spining on Low Speed?

Question 1
2004 Chrysler Sebring Radiator Fan Not Spining on Low Speed?...  my cars has recenlty been getting hotter than before...The temperature needle goes up to just a little under the halfway mark...When the ac isnt on i never hear the fan turn on but when the ac is on i do but it turns on and off on and off...it turns on for about 5-7 sec...Not sure...I thought the fan would be on at all times while the ac is on at low speed...when i hear the fans turn on it sounds fast...The needle goes up while im in city driving...when on the expresssway and when the car is parked idling it seems fine....I changed my water pump and radiator cap and coolant recently but nothing has helped until i read about the fans.....Does anyone know where the fuse or relay is for the low speed fan control?? or can it be the engine coolant temperature sensor?? I have no Check Engine Light On...

I know theres fuses on the driver side panel and are labeled but the relays under the hood are not labeled....Does anyone have a digram and can help me out on checking this issue...Or should i just wire the fans direct and have them spinning at all times?????

Answers
1)   Mm... Is that what you are looking for? http://giftchoice.info/111813/engine-coolant - Witt Mcpherson

2)   It is an electrical problem. Your chryslers fan spin very fast when the car gets hotter than usual. Your primamry fan, the one that turns on when the engine is warm is not functioning correctly. The other fan is for when the ac is on or when the temp gets hot. That fan is doing its job to prevent your car from over heating. Replace your fan and the temprature sensors. Also replace relays. I have a chrysler to. Don't wire the fan. It will turn on both fans on but at the incorect. temprature causing car to warm up. - Adam Reyna

3)   Call up a dealership service/parts department they can tell you exactly where the low fan relay is located, plus they can give you the part number.More then likely the same fuse feeds both the high and low fan systems and you'd be looking for a 30-40 amp fuse.

Normally if the temperature gauge hits just before the half way marking the low fan should engage, this is due to the main comp reading the coolant sensor resistance and then the comp sends a on signal to the low fan relay and the relay output is sent to the fan.You mentioned that it seems to idle okay and normally the engine would off got hotter then normal if the low fan didn't engage but once the temperature gauge went much above half way the high fan should of engaged. Also the A/C will cause the high fan system to engage but it's designed to only stay on until the engine is a certain temperature and the engine maybe changing temperatures a lot due to the A/C being on and due to the low fan perhaps not working.

Some systems can develop bad grounds or bad connections, the wire can fray or melt or be damaged especially if the vehicle is a few years old and the fan system may have a module in the circuit that can also cause problems.Again a dealership should be able to tell you if any fan modules exist and where it's located but it's common for them to be located the lower fan housing.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way you don't mention changing the thermostat and usually I recommend changing it when you change the coolant or pump. You may have air in the coolant system one way to help bleed the system is start up the engine when it's cold.Remove the rad or reservoir cap then stand back keep your eye on the temperature gauge, watch for the coolant to start over flowing, this should help to bleed any air or air locks out of the system.Once the coolant over flows shut off the engine, top of the coolant but check the coolant quality/mixture with a anti-freeze tester. The anti-freeze you use must be what is stated via the ownership or dealership and you should have it mixed 50/50 or for -40c.It's vital that the coolant mixture is correct bec this can also cause a engine to run hotter then normal, also using distilled water is recommended instead of using regular tap water. - helpful bob

Question 2

Question 3

Question 4
what country CHRYSLER SEBRING came from?...  im thinking of buying sebring 2004 model car but i want to know what should i look for before buying this or any other car.

- James S

2)   Chrysler is a dodge product and the sebring is not the best choice from them. it's one of there models that seem to run into problems - Bill

Question 5
Is the PT cruiser good or bad?...  my parents are going to help me buy a car and i wanted something like a honda civic or something cause i think their cute.
my mom found a 2001 limited edition PT cruiser.. i think their ugly but i have a baby and realisticly it would be roomy and better than a little car.
i also really like the hatchback and the split seats so i can have a carseat in the back and then have the other seats folded down for more room
how are they for gas and would it be weird for a 19 year old to have a PT cruiser?
