1971 plymouth satalite will not start?

Question 1
1971 plymouth satalite will not start?...  i want to get it to start
car sat last 10 years was daily driver uncle parked it now his son fixing it up new battery and gas no spark changed points now it turns and no fire motor is from a 74 furry 318 but was running at time it was parked
body and insides are perfect
uncle said points were touchy

1)   They are pretty simple. If you have no spark there are only a few things it can be. Either the points or the coil. Try the coil. Make sure you have the points set right, the older Mopars are finicky and the points are very touchy. You might try the ballast resistor on the fire wall. Looks like a white block with either two wires or four wires. When they go bad you get no spark. - deljack05

2)   I'd say the coil, sounds like an electric problem - Bob

3)   You have to check and change some things. Change your sparkplugs, clean hit tension wires, ditributor and rotor. If need to replace, replace it. Check your ignition coil if its working fine or change if needed.Check your fuel pump and fuel pump relay. They might not be working properly. If needed change your fuel pump relay. Before you attempt to start it, have your tank clean and put new fresh gas. Im sure your car will give a nice start. Hope this helps! - Mikaela P

4)   If you put points in, you should have also put in a new condensor. I would check all the wiring and try a ballast resistor also. After 10 years, the gas will be junk. - done wrenching

how many miles a chrysler sebring last?...

1)   Depending on how you maintain it, it could go a LONG time. - done wrenching

2)   0 to **********, depending that there are no serious accidents, how well you maintain it, how/if you make all necessary repairs. - LT

3)   Depends on the Engine, the maintenance, and how it was driven.
2.7L engines are not reliable long-term. Expect trouble starting around 45-70K miles.
The 4 cylinder engines are much better and will run 130-150K miles. - howard

Question 3
Hauling '75 Plymouth roadrunner?...  I'm about to move across country and driving my Roadrunner isn't really an option. When I was looking at Penske I noticed that Roadrunners weren't listed as a selectable option for 1975. Although it was selected and approved for hauling in 76. I know they did some body style changes right around then so I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to haul my car on of those. Help Please! The moving date is very close

1)   Hauling how or on/with what? Your explanation doesn't really explain what you want to do. If you want to tow the car, then it needs a tow bar installed and it needs to either have a standard trans or (if it's an auto) to have the driveshaft removed. If you're talking about transporting it on a trailer then there's no problem. I don't care what car or how it's equipped, if it will fit on a trailer, it's safe to transport it. Just make sure it's strapped down so it can't roll and that the trailer has electric brakes which can be operated from the tow vehicle. - mustanger

2)   The 1976 Roadrunner was a trim package on the compact Plymouth Volare.
The 1975 Roadrunner was based on the midsize Fury previously known as Satellite.
You will need a longer trailer for the 1975 Roadrunner than for the 1976 Roadrunner.
1975 was a 115 inch or so wheelbase, the Volare Roadrunner was 108 inch wheelbase.
Track width was slightly wider on your Roadrunner than the 1976 - FleetTech

3)   In the 70's there were a lot of Dodges and Plymouth that shouldn't be towed by any thing or tow any thing. Because of the bumpers that were on them. Like said earlyer it can be trailerd with no problem by useing straps or cains going around the rear axel and the front cross member. - trucker460

Question 4
Chrysler 300M steering wheel problem?...  I have a 2000 Chrysler 300M. It was shaking, and I had to hold the steering wheel at an angle for it to drive straight. I took it to the shop where I got new inner tie rod and end bushings, and also had the rotors turned. So now it's not shaking but I still have to hold the steering wheels at an angle for it to drive straight, I here a sound like something is lose, and it sometimes just veers off the road. I took it back and they say they can't find anything wrong wit it, what could this be....?

1)   did you align the tires? and this is why I hate mopar, its the worst parts, unless its there hemi :- ) - JR

2)   It's your alignment. They should have taken care of that when they swapped out your tie rod - J

3)   Ether a alignment prob or its tires. Have the tires checked. Could be a broken belt in tires or something simple like air pressure
Check you vehicle placer on inside driver door for tire pressure for your car
it should be 35 psi fill both front tires
If you tires are off just by 10 psi you will feel it and it will pull.
If that's the prob give me a vote and let me know how you did - Charles

Question 5
My 1992 Chrysler Lebaron will not start..?...  The car was cranking as if somebody tried too start the car when it was already running. When i turned the key too the off position and tried too start it again it wouldnt even crank. I thought the battery might have been dead but i tried jumping it and nothing happened. The headlights, door chimes, cigarette lighter, the dome light all still work. But the message center lights and the radio DO NOT work. We had the starter checked and there was nothing wrong with that, we replaced the ignition time delay relay and the car still didn't crank. Does any one know what the problem could be?

1)   1. Check the fly wheel see if it still has teeth.
2. Check the ignition coil and relay
3. Check fuse
4. Try to clean battery thermals and see if it has a bad ground follow the ground wire to the body see if it is loose do the same with the starter wire its the pos+ side it should go to starter.
5. see if starter is loose
6. Tap the starter with a hammer NOT TOO HARD. Then try to start it if it does replace the starter. - Charles

2)   If you are saying that while the car was running someone turned the key to the start position, then the starter gear will move forward so as to engage the flywheel. The starter has a large gear and with the car running, it will grind off the teeth on your flywheel.

Check your flywheel by removing your starter and looking to see if that has happened. While you have your starter off and the wires and cables back on, have someone turn the key to start and watch to see if the gear in your starter moves forward and spins. If not then remove your battery cables and clean them.

It takes approximately 9.5 volts to start a car. If you hear a clicking sound, your battery is not putting out enough voltage. Your radio, headlights, etc., will all work, so you will think that your problem is your starter. NOT SO. Either you have a weak battery which need charging, or the most likely culprit are your battery cables. Most people will look at their cables and if they LOOK clean, and don't see any white corrosion build up on the terminals, they believe the battery terminals are making a good contact. Once again - NOT SO. Those terminals and cables are lead. Lead is a shiny metal. Scrap the top of a battery terminal and it will shine. That darkness on the terminal you scraped off is also present between you battery terminal and cable, and will prevent a good contact. All it needs is to cause a drop in voltage to your starter and you will hear a clicking sound from the starter.

Get a good battery terminal and cable cleaner at your auto parts store. The type with the wires inside that will really make those terminals and cables shine. Once you have cleaned them, your battery will put out max voltage. If you still hear the clicking sound, take your battery to an auto parts store and they will check it. It may not be holding a charge or you may have a dead cell. However, DO NOT try and clean your battery terminals with Baking Soda or Coca Cola. I've worked on cars for over 50 years and all that does is clean the OUTSIDE of the terminals - NOT the connection between the cable and terminal.

So many people run out and buy a new starter or battery when it is really the connection itself. - Joe
