how much would it cost to repair a 'small' leak on the torque converter of a 2000 chrysler sebring convertible?... the guys at valvoline said there is a small leak of trans fluid on the torque converter. how much would this cost? thanks
Answers
1) More than likely, it's the front pump seal - if it's truly only a "small leak" or perhaps seepage over a long period of time, I wouldn't be too concerned with it. Just keep an eye on the ground where you generally park it and check the level occasionally.
It's a relatively expensive repair to remove the transmission to replace this seal. - LeAnne
2) Sounds like the front pump seal. Not a small job.
It's about 7 hours labor plus the price of the seal ($15 bucks or so) and 6 to 8 quarts of fluid ($30 bucks or so).
Depending on the labor rate of your local shops or dealerships an estimate of $650.00 to $700.00 plus tax and shop supplies would be normal.
If you decide to have it done I strongly recomend either a dealer or a reputable transmission shop for this repair. It's the kind of job that if it were done by someone not qualified they could easily do more harm than good.
Best of Luck! - Dave
3) the converter dosent leak unless its cracked. Its probably a seal and time to change to a qualified mechanic that would know a torque converter doesnt leak - rick b

i work at a napa garage and we see these symtoms two of three times - John H
3) We've seen a rash of failing Wireless Control Module's lately. It's the module that controls security and other features mounted on the key cylinder and it will cause exactly that symptom..
Try This.
Remove the IOD fuse, It's the fuse enclosed in a black or clear holder in the fuse block in the trunk. It wont come all the way out, just squeeze the tabs on the sides and lift it up about 1/4 inch to disengage it. (if you are confused you can find detailed info on the location of the IOD fuse in your owners manual)
Wait about a minute and push the fuse back in.
If the car starts after doing this call your dealer on Monday and tell them you have a bad WCM. They'll know what you mean.
Best of luck ! - Dave

Question 3
My daughter has a 1999 Chrysler LHS, one minute the a/c was blowing cold air, the next minutes its blowing hot?... Could it be as simple as a fuse?
Answers
1) check ur radiator fluid/engine coolant fluid levels. if they are full, u have something wrong with ur radiator or sometin. - Joey
2) it could be a fuse, or a low pressure switch or something as simple as low freon. the first thing you need to find out is when the a/c is on is the clutch engaged(turning) if not then the compressor isn't working and so no cool air. if it is turning then the low freon may be the problem. if its not turning it could be a fuse or low pressure switch on the dryer. or could be a bad compressor. and mechanic will have to look at it to know for sure. but you can check the fuse panel and see if you can find a air cond fuse, if so check it out, you prob have 2 of them, one inside the car and one outside in the engine compartment - jayt
3) When your a/c is on the radiator cooling fan should be on. You need air flow across the condenser for the a/c to work properly. If your A/C seems to work fine while your car is in movement for a period of time but stops working or working well will you are not moving or moving very little then that could be a good indicator of this problem. Check to swee if your cooling fan is on, if not have it checked out. - iblooking4it

Question 4
2002 chrysler 3.3 code p0455 large leak detected?... getting code p0455 large leak detected ,what part do i need to replace to fix this problem
Answers
1) Vacuum lines and or fittings. - yes_its_me
2) That's a code for the evaporate system in the fuel tank and vapor lines associated with the fuel system. The first thing I check with this code is the gas cap. If it's not tight or has an off brand installed it will not hold pressure and will give a code. The next thing is to have the cap tested with a special pump that the dealer has and maybe the parts store. If it is ok then check all the vapor lines in the system for a crack in the rubber connections or one disconnected. There are 2 codes that are associated with that condition. One is 'a small leak detected' and the second is 'a large leak detected'. - Jackolantern
3) Like stated, a bad or loose gas cap is the most obvious. However 9 out of 10 times one or more of the rubber hoses for that system has dried, got hard and split open.
I see it ALL the time on Chrysler's. - Frankie Coletta

Question 5
Chrysler T&C has a strange idle?... My van has 50k miles on it and has a little rumble when it idles. I have given it 2 gas treatments this summer and also had a tune up with no change. Any other ideas what may be causing it? It happens with & without the a/c on. I have never had vehicle do this and need some direction. Thanks for your time!
Answers
1) A model year and engine size would also be helpful, but here's some general info.
When you say it has a rumble, do you mean the vehicle shakes? Or, do you mean it is actually making a noise?
If it's shaking, it could need new spark plugs, maybe spark plug wires, or possibly even both.
Could be a sensor that's gone bad, or a number of other things.
If it's a noise, the most likely cause is an exhaust leak, but could also be other things like a bearing on one of the pulleys or something.
At any rate, the best thing to do is to take it to your trusted (and well qualified) repair shop and have them diagnose it for you. They should be able to hook it up to get codes and find what's causing it to have problems, or find anything that might be causing a noise.
Replacing parts before having it properly diagnosed is most often just throwing money away. - Mark B
2) Its probably a lean burn miss, normal - rick b
3) If the check engine light isn't on, then there shouldn't be any trouble codes on the computer. The word "tune up" worries me: your van shouldn't need a "tune up". It might have a bad motor mount. Does it idle rough if you shift into neutral? Does the rough idle happen after the engine has warmed up? - Ryan M
