i could care less if they went out of business. imports are the way to go.

Yes they should, very much. The next time the U.S. Government is in trouble, for hardware, like for WWII, Korea, Vietnam and so on. Will they call on Toyota or Honda.
jimmymae2000

We should , many people are employed by the automakers . Unemployment lines will get much longer , that's bad for the economy , other small business are doing services or supplying other related products to these auto makers , the impact on our economy , will be huge , let alone the lost tax revenues ... etc.
sagantoree

Yes they should...Our economy releies on the auto industry...We need these companys for jobs and technology. We cannot afford to lose them.Other companys in other countries that make parts need them also....
Johnny Rotten

Yes we should but GM/Chrysler are not the only people who are losing their jobs we have millions that are out of work why doesn't the government help them.GMC/Chrysler employee's are not any better than the rest of the out of work population,Fact no one is buying new cars so why keep making them.I worked for 28 yrs and got laid off I didn't see the government step in and help me.If any state, county, utility companies, etc get any monies from the government then they must hire back employees that where laid off they would also need to hire back employees if they wanted grants.
All the bigger companies have show en a pattern all the upper management gets raises just before they lay employee's off .It even happen where I was working in fact one management staff made a comment that she was happy she got a raise so she could keep her kids in private school meanwhile we are trying to make our monthly bills.
The government needs to stand up against this criminal act and make the employer's pay for what they are doing and hiding behind the bad economy
jeepster

i really don't mind bailing out chrysler this company is worth saving.
there are several good designs here although way too many models.
jeep by itself is worth saving but all mercedes influenced products must be scrapped [let's face it jeeps are for people on a mission, not some croissant stuffing moron that got lost between his last hostel take over and the lexus dealership]rural nazifacation did not work.
dodge has some awesome trucks and the challenger no more need be said.
g.m. brought this upon themselves their products are obsolete before they enter into production and have been lame excuses for vehicles since 1993 always getting the model right just as it is removed from the market.
their factories should be turned into bakeries.
save g.m. not with my money.
hobbabob

americans definitely should. sure american cars arent as popular or as stylish as some makes like nissan and honda

but gm, chrysler, and ford still have a large fanbase here in the states. unfortunately these fans buy them for their ful sized gas swilling SUVs and pickups.

The big 3 have really tried to come up with better cars, more stylish and performance is a focus now. The 09 Chevy Malibu took that car from being a bland boxy sedan into a sporty sedan similar to a nissan altima, I would definitely buy a malibu if i had the money. Gm also has onstar, something japan will never have, that should draw a lot of buyers but it hasnt

Ford has been known for making very conservative looking cars and some of theirs are very outdated such as the crown vic/grand marquis/ town car, the ford ranger which hasnt had any major changes since 1994

Introducing the Ford Fusion was a good idea like the Chevy Malibu and Nissan Altima its a very stylish sporty sedan

Chrysler, which I am a fan of has really slipped in quality. Their cars, for the most part are extremely stylish but thats about it, 10 years ago they were detroits hottest company, now they are bankrupt but there are a few bright spots

The new 2010 Dodge Ram has a lot of promise, the chrysler 300 has been a big seller since 2005 when it was introduced, the pt cruiser has also been a big seller though it is being discontinued, dodge magnum, challenger, charger, avenger, nitro, and caliber are all very good looking cars though are very cheaply made

they Chrysler sebring both convertible and sedan are now ugly and uncool. They have gone this way with jeep too

Dodge is about Chryslers only bright spot left as those seem to be the only qulaity cars they make now in my opinion

But yeah americans should care, i cant imagine a world without gm ford and chrysler

The GTX was a "gentleman's muscle car" an upscale Road Runner so to speak but actually preceded the Road Runner by a year. First year for the GTX was 1967, the Road Runner was 1968 and both were based on the Belvedere body style.

GTX - Gran Turismo Luxury was the definition. During the era of muscle cars GTX, R/T, GTO, SS, RS, GT, etc., adding designations to a model car was the thing to do and usually the letters were the first letter of the words following the model name, but not always.
Don't know everything !

Everyone has a theory, but the truth is that GTX is a name that sounded good. Taking the theme of Gran Turismo (Grand Touring), they added an "X" to it as it had a sporty ring. Plus, traditionally, the letter "X" in English tends to have an element of generic anonymity (Mr. X, etc) that lent itself perfectly to Plymouth's new model.

If you look at any of Plymouth's original literature, whether it be ads or brochures, there's nothing that suggests X stands for Experimental, Luxury, or what-not. Simply put, GTX is GT taken a bit further (with a nod towards the GTO).

Yep, the last guy has it, gran turismo, with the x just 'cause it sounds cool, over the top, what ever. ~Dan

will jeeps still be made if chrysler goes bankrupt?

Chrysler is bankrupt. Jeep is an iconic brand and I feel strongly that if not Chrysler, then another automaker will take over to continue making Jeeps. We will have a better picture once Chrysler emerges from bankruptcy which could happen any day now.
euroman71

not likely, but another company may make a similar vehicle.
mustboard

Jeep is why Fiat wants to buy Chrysler.
It may be all that survives the collapse of Chrysler.

The Jeep brand has survived the collapse of Bantam, Willy's, Kaiser, AMC and now Chrysler.

I hope so it's the only suv that I like........" It's A Jeep Thing "
think

Much like many other cars - if the holding company goes bankrupt it will be bought over.
James

Chrysler will go belly up,but will continue to make cars and trucks...They will not disppear like the auto makers did in the great depression.

Wheel squealing and shaking on 2005 PT Cruiser?

My cousin is having some problems with her 2005 PT Cruiser, She says her wheel shakes a lot while driving at around 15 mph and up. and its making a screeching and ticking noise. mostly screeching but some ticking. anyone know whats wrong?

Check the alignment, and get the tires rotated.
Nickname

Check the Tires first,Maybe some damage to the tire from the side you can't (Inside) . The noise could be from the Brakes .But most likely the shaking is from a bad tire.Unless she has a broken arm or Axle,But you will hear a lot of noise if you have a broken Axle.
Good luck
freedommoe

pt cruisers have front wheel bearing failures, jack up the front of the car and grab the wheel on the top and bottom and try to move the wheel up and down and left and right if the wheel wobbles or clunks while doing this you may have a wheel bearing failure
twoblackstripes

There are good points here but nothing that would be a quick fix for your cousin. She needs to take it to a qualified mechanic or the dealer if she still has some warranty coverage left and get it check out, sounds like a tire, suspention or brake problem and to pin it down it should be looked at

I'm backing Rick on this one, get it to a pro! Yesterday. It could be a DANGER situation! ~Dan

I have a 2003 PT Cruiser. I can not get it in Reverse. Otherwise it goes well I am sure it is ...?

a transmission problem. Is there any chance it could be fixed for less than $600? Money is tight.
I forgot to say it was a manual.

Asked by: JakeMcKoffer @ 2009-05-30 15:01:37

[Best Answer]Is it a manual or auto? That's a kinda important piece of information for someone to help make a guess at your problem.
If it is a manual, it could be a shifter/cable issue, if not, its a trans issue, and it'll surely cost more than 600 to fix.
If its an auto, it could be a solenoid pack issue, that could be under the 600 mark, your going to have to take it to a pro.
Peripheral stuff, could be in your budget, but removing and repairing either trans won't.
Good luck~Dan

Hahahahahaha PT Cruiser with a problem. LOL for sure. Maybe Chrysler will buy it back from you for $600 with their bailout money. Sorry for you loss.

Is the check engine light on? Might be something as simple as a sensor. My 99 Dodge Intrepid was shifting hard and after a day would not leave out of 2nd gear. I thought for sure it was the tranny. But I found it strange that the check engine light would come on. The enginelight only gets codes from sensors, electrical stuff, it has no way of knowing if a tranny is going bad. Anyways, there is a speed input sensor and speed output sensor on the outside driver side of the tranny. By looking at the codes and looking them up on the internet, my problem turned out to be a 16.99 sensor. Way better than the 500 I was planning for a used transmission and 300-400 for installation. But the moral is don't just automatically assume its the tranny yet. I took it to a tranny shop and they looked at the codes and said, oh yea, you need a new transmission. But I just wasn't convinced. I posted the codes here in Yahoo and a 30 year dodge trans tech answered back and said it was for sure the sensor.
