1995 plymouth neon...will it make the trip?

Question 1
1995 plymouth neon...will it make the trip?...  i have a 1995 plymouth neon is GREAT condition...there is nothing mechanically wrong with it. And i have family in TN so there having a family reunion but i dont have the money to rent a car...do you think it could make a 8 year drive?
haha im sorry 8 hour drive oopps

Answers
1)   8 year drive O.o..... i dont think so :O - oX.CoOkiE mOnStEr.Xo *Back Up*

2)   I do not know where you are located, but if it takes 8 years to drive to TN, you should consider flying.

I know you meant 8 hours and am just teasing you. If the car is in good condition, I see no reason that it should not be able to make the trip safely. Have the fluid levels checked, along with the belts, hoses and tires, and if the car checks out, enjoy the trip.

I have driven older cars on longer trips many times - fire4511

3)   I have a 1995 Neon with 185000 miles on it and is still going strong. If you trust the car I don't see any reason it wouldn't make the trip. With any car mechanical break downs do occur so it is really your call. I would have the oil changed and all fluid levels and tire pressures checked before you hit the road.Have a safe trip.( has the timing belt ever been changed?) - Gregory A

4)   If it's in great condition, then it should make the trip without any problems. Of course, having it checked out by a shop to make sure everything is in good order is a good idea before any long trip.

That being said, there's never a guarantee that any car will make the trip without something breaking during the trip. - Mark B

5)   Simply put, YES - rick b

6)   You know more about the car than anyone else. If you feel good about car making the trip, go for it. Check everything over and check the tire pressures. Remember, you could rent a car and have it blow up half way on the trip as well. - Jackolantern

7)   Yes - C-Tech

Question 2
What diagnostic scan tool will read my 1991 eagle talon?...

Answers
1)   You can easily pull fault codes for the PCM and the TCU (if it's an automatic) off this vehicle with a volt meter or test light.
The diagnostic link is located near the fuse box on the left underside of the dash. From ground, connect the test light to the upper right spade in the connector for the PCM readout and to the lower right spade for the TCU readout then simply turn the key to the run position. A steady flashing means that there are no fault codes, the long pulses are tens and the short pulses are ones. For instance, three long pulses and five short pulses would be fault code 35.
The codes can be erased by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a minute or so. - LeAnne

2)   Don't bother with reading codes. Your car has a very common problem with the ECU circuits getting burnt by leaking capacitors. Pull the ECU, remove both covers and look at the circuit board on both sides. It's easy to see the problem. - thebax2006

3)   That year was a real problem. Chrysler just bought out AMC a few years before and the Eagle was one of the cars they were trying to incorporate into the rest of the Chrysler line. If memory serves me, The Eagle had 2 diagnostic plugs for the diagnostic scanner to connect to the car. The cord had 2 plug in's on the car end and 1 to plug into the scan tool. I feel that the only place to obtain this adaptor cord will be at a dealer that still has one and never threw it away. The car along with the Mitsubishi line which Chrysler was incorporated with was very unpopular around the shop. It also had the same 2 diagnostic connectors on the car. The scan tool can be any one. But you have to have the special cord to connect the car to the tool. - Jackolantern

Question 3
2006 PT Cruiser Engine Light Codes?...  Just bought a used 2006 PT Cruiser and of course two days later the engine light came on. Got the codes to come up: P0139 and P0513. Any suggestions on what these are and how to fix them?

Answers
1)   PO139 is for slow response time on the Bank 1 switch 2 02 sensor.
PO513 is for an invalid skin key. I can only guess that this is for the key programming to the immobilizer for anti-theft. - thebax2006

2)   P0139 is for the downstream oxygen sensor. Ensure you don't have an exhaust leak and then change the O2 sensor. P0513 is for an invalid skim key., at some point in time someone has put the wrong key or an unprogrammed key in in the ignition. after changing the O2 sensor disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear the codes. - Gregory A

3)   Gregory A nailed this one. Nothing I can add. - Dave

Question 5
When do you have to change the timing belt on a 2005 PT Cruiser?...  I have a 2005 PT Cruiser with 67K miles. Wondering when I should change the timing belt so it does not break on the road. I usually drive by myself, so want to make sure it is safe.

Answers
1)   90k miles..........also have to change water pump at same time......and would also suggest replacing metal piping and gasket that attaches to pump housing......

** also make sure u re-align the trans after u do the work....

** speaking of trans fluid and filter supposed to b changed every 45k on that car.... - Karle

2)   The source indicates timing belts and change intervals (90K miles in severe service, which most often means city driving) through 2004, but none beyond that. Normally that means the engine uses a chain. However, I am also finding parts listings on-line for timing belts for the 2.4L engine that are for 2001-2009. I recommend you call the dealer's service department and ask for the straight scoop for the engine in your vehicle. - Michael

3)   I did some research for you:

call the experts at www.carpartswholesale.com and ask them. If you need to change the belt you can buy it cheap from them!
