Should I buy a PT Cruiser please help?

Question 1
Should I buy a PT Cruiser please help?...  I wanna buy a pt cruiser and I just went to a dealer and they have this 2006 pt cruiser with 106000 miles and they are asking $6,000 for it. I need ur help are the pt cruisers good cars? Is it worth it to buy it for $6,000. Please although I like the way those cars look I don't wanna buy it if it will give me problems. So far two ppl told me not to buy. Please help thanks.

Answers
1)   Well, Chrysler quality has come a long way, but I would avoid a Chrysler with 106k miles on it. If it was well taken care of it might last a good bit longer...but if it was not taken care of properly you are probably walking into a ton of repair work in the near future. That actually goes for any car with over 100k on it, but especially Chrysler cars. - Jordan C

2)   Did you say 106,000 miles? As in over 100,000? On a 3 year old car? YIKES!!

That's like 35,000 miles per year. No way I'd buy that car unless it was almost free.

You can buy 2008-2009 PT Cruisers for under $10,000 with reasonable miles. The cars still have a factory warranty and are basically like new. No sense in buying this car with all those miles for that price.

2008 PT with 31,000 miles, $8300: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/ctd/1452833351.html

Check your local Craigslist and newspapers for screamin deals on PT's. They are everywhere for low prices. $6000 for that car is no deal for you. I know you can find a better car. - Uncle Bo

3)   yes they are really good cars my parents have one and never had any problems with it mechanically but there was some other things. one was the key, Chrysler cars all seem to have the same problem which is when you put the key in the ignition it will start but then when you go to take it out it wont come out. I had to get a locksmith to come and fix it. it came to about $200 but no problems since then. The locksmith is the one that told me of the ignition problems with chrysler cars. the second thing was the fog lights were not going off and the only way to keep them off was to keep the left blinker on but i researched and found out that you just have to pull a fuse and it worked, im not sure since its a different year if they fixed that but its something to take notice to. Those are the only problems My parents ever had with it tho, But it gets good gas mileage, its roomy, and you can carry alot in it. Hope this helps you. - ?

4)   not for $6000. More like $4000.

5)   Along with all the other good advise here, do not touch this car unless the seller has documented proof the timing belt has been changed, as it should have been, at around 100,000 miles - cat

6)   You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net - William

Question 3
How long will it take Chrysler to repo my car after lease expired and my bankruptcy was discharged?...  I live in Arizona, my bankruptcy was discharged November 4, 2008. My car lease was included in the bankruptcy. I made my car payments until Oct. 2009 when the lease expired. I am not making the payments now and tried to buy the car from them, but they want 6 thousand more than its worth. How long will it take them to repo the car without making payments?

Answers
1)   usually by the third month without payment the car company with repot it. They usually send many notices that if payment is not paid they will come and get it. - Nicholas

2)   usually after the first payment period is missed/aaaagghhhhhh why dont you take it back and turn it in like you contracted for????? - ken k

3)   30 to 90 days - rick b

4)   If you leased the car you are SUPPOSED to return it after the lease expires, not keep it. That's theft. The police may have a bench warrant out for you, - C-Tech

5)   I'm guessing that you listed the lease to be assumed in the bankruptcy, that means it's as if you didn't even file the BK.

Drive the car to the dealership and return it today.

Otherwise, you could hire a reposession firm to come pick it up.
But that's an expensive route.
I phrase it as such because you will be responsible for all collections fees when they sue you for forcing them to do that to you. - Dark Green Money

Question 4
When jump starting a 1999 Chrysler Intrepid, is the Remote Negative terminal actually used ?...  I had always thought that you connect the Negative terminal on a ground point on the dead car. The remote Negative terminal is connected to the negative terminal on the battery, so wouldn't it be just like connecting the cable right to the negative node on the battery ?
This is not the first time I have jump started a car by the way... but it is the first time I have jumpstarted THIS car, and I dont really feel like busting up the electrical system so I was wondering then why, if connecting the neg cable to any ground is like connecting the neg terminal, why connect it to the ground and not the neg terminal ? All other times jumping I connect pos - pos, neg - engine block. Never seen a remote neg terminal marked "negative jump terminal", that seems in fact, kind of useless if I could simply connect to the frame, engine block, and so on.

Answers
1)   yes but so is connecting the neg cable to any ground...... - Karle

2)   Just match the colors, you'll be fine. Quit thinking about it. I matched the colors when I first jump started a truck. I was only 12. And it worked, I am now an adult who does the same thing when I need to jump start my car or anyone else's. - C-Los

3)   The reason you don't hook up the negative directly to the battery is to avoid sparking near the battery. The battery emits explosive hydrogen gas and a spark could ignite it. That is why you hook up to a good chassis ground or the engine block. Now the remote neg terminal is for two reasons. First it moves the negative terminal away from the battery so you won't have to worry about sparking. Second is that the battery is down in the right front fender well and is damn near impossible to jump start by connecting to the battery terminals. So they moved the negative terminal where you could get at it without taking the battery out. - Mike J

Question 5
what does it take to recalibrate the speedometer to be able to use 20"wheels?...  the vehicle is an 08 dodge with 17" wheels on it already. Wondering what kind of trouble it will be to get the speedometer to work correctly .

Answers
1)   No need to recalibrate anything, larger wheels mean lower profile tires. If you do it correctly the overall diameter will stay the same. Talk to the tire shop to get the proper size tires or visit tirerack.com - pbleek

2)   The wheel size doesn't matter. It's the overall tire diameter that does. As said above with larger wheels you will run low profile tires so the overall diameter should be close. You can check it with a tape measure and if the new tire/wheel combo is noticeably larger your dealer can adjust the pinion factor with a scan tool to correct the speedometer and transmission shift points.
Be sure to have this done if there is any significant difference in diameter as it will affect the shifting on an automatic if you don't and can actually damage your transmission over time.
Hope this helps. - Dave

3)   I do know that actual tire size when it comes to the rim size etc are indeed part of a factory programming and with the right tool one an go into these control module settings and actually change the configuration so the over all speed sensor and speed etc readings are correctly being displayed by the gauges dash cluster assembly.

Hope that helps and best of luck. - helpful bob
