Why Chrysler Sebring has such a horrible reviews?

Question 1
Why Chrysler Sebring has such a horrible reviews?...  I rented this car for a week and I fell in love with it. It had really comfortable interrior, leather seats, seat warmers, handling was very well designed and it appealed good on outside. My girlfriend and my other girl roommate tald me that this car looks better and they like it more than my roommate's new Hybrid Altima and new Civic. My girlfriend even thought it was bently at first, and she knows style so she wouldnt just say it on top of her thought. Now I got my Civic back from repair shop and she says that she misses Sebring. IMHO it looks better than any of that Jap mainstream cars on the roads like Camry, Civic or Sentra

Answers
1)   because sebring is not really that good of a car - Andrew Haga

2)   Bad reviews.. Because they will break in the drive way.. You don't have to be driving it.. They fall apart.. Union labor.. - Gus

3)   In a look perspective and features, yeah the Chrysler Sebring is definitely a nice car aesthetic wise. Like you mentioned it has all the great appeal and look that isn't present in any of the Japanese models, which is basically an opinion, but I guess the horrible reviews come from the overall performance and maintenance in the long run. I don't think the Sebring, as many American cars are, last longer than the Japanese models, as they tend to break down in a few years or so, which rake up the maintenance costs to repair and so forth. But yeah, the Sebring is a beautiful car, as are many other American-made cars, I just don't think they hold up as long as the Asian models. - Greg Charter

4)   The 2.7 had a horrible sludge issue. The new one is a POS that falls apart really quickly. The older gen ones do look pretty nice tho. There's a reason that they are so damn cheap in the used market. - Fribble

5)   Had one for 165,000 miles, no real problems. Bought a newer one. It is not a sports car with great handling. Get the six cylinder and keep the oil changed. They seem to have a serious engine problem if the lower oil passages get clogged with sludge. Put the top down and cruise. - andy33020

6)   I have been wondering the same thing. I drive a 2008 sebring sedan and I love it! i think it looks great and much more expensive than it actually was. I have owned it for a year, and the only problem I have had with it started last week, and it is just the dimmer switch for the interior lights. Seems to be a solid car - D@ B!gg BosS

1)   There are alot of transmissions that should work.

Link is crossreference chart.
It indicates taht you have an "A604 (41TE)" transmission that was used in lots of cars. - Snoyt

2)   Be careful bec there are a lot of misdiagnoses especially with electronic and mechanically controlled transmissions and especially when it comes to Chrysler/Dodge transmissions. What exactly is your transmission doing or not doing? - helpful bob

1977 Chrysler New Yorker Problem?...  The problem I have is that the car stalls and dies going down the road, like it's out of gas. But if I leave it set for an hour or two, it will start again. It was diagnosed as a distributor problem, but I replaced that. Any ideas from anyone familiar with Chryslers or this problem? Could it be a heat sensor?

Answers
1)   could be the nylon fuel filter at the end of the fuel level. Every once in a while they will plug up and cause the engine to quite. - badbill1941

2)   The 1977 New Yorker does not have a heat sensor and if you feel confident about the integrity of the ignition system, the problem is possibly fuel boiling in the fuel line from engine heat, a phenomenon known as "fuel percolation". This normally occurs during hot weather in slow moving traffic but it can happen during cold weather as well.

If I remember correctly and the fuel line to the carburetor has not been changed, a metal fuel line runs to the carburetor from the mechanical fuel pump mounted at the right front of the engine under the alternator, there may be a section of rubber fuel line somewhere in this but it is mostly metal. If this is the case wrap aluminum foil around the metal portion of the fuel line that is "above" or on top of the engine, the portion of fuel line from the fuel pump to the right side valve cover is not subject to as much engine heat as the portion above the engine. The "hour or two" of rest time will allow the engine to cool and the fuel in the line to return to its normal liquid state.

It is also possible the fuel pump is starting to fail or the strainer in the fuel tank is picking up dirt, rust, etc. and stopping the engine allows this debris to fall away from the strainer. - Don't know everything !

3)   The '70s Chryslers had a couple gremlins in the electrical system - first place to check is the fusible link near the battery. They can fail completely, which just cuts your ignition, or they can fail intermittently (it will fail completely after a while). Grab the wire with the engine running and wiggle it, it will cut out if that's the problem. There is also a resistor block on the firewall that can cause intermittent problems, best bet is to replace it, it's cheap.

If that doesn't do the trick, start looking into fuel problems. The good news is that a fuel pump for that year is cheap and easy to change, not like the newer in-tank high pressure pumps. You cna get a cheap pressure gauge from Pep Boys or Autozone to diagnose your fuel pressure, it should run about 6-10 PSI while cranking. - nyninchdick

1)   the belt was probly old and stretched or didnt fit so the belt was un able to turn the alternater to charge ur batery and that electronic stuff u should get someone who knows what there doing to replace the belt with the proper one and jump ur car to charge the batery and evrything should b fine - Sean

2)   Have someone replace that belt and you'll probably need a boost , then charge up the battery by driving it awhile and it should be okay.If you look online on sites like auto zone or parts source they might have info on how to replace that belt yourself or ask at one of their stores or a dealership.

what goes best with a chrysler lebaron?

Question 1
what goes best with a chrysler lebaron?...  i like the way this car looks and the fact that its a convertible is a plus. i plan on making it my first car but i would like to know what part such as suspension, motor, sound system would you think would complement it the best. more of an opinion question but i still want an answer to know more or less what to save for.

Answers
1)   thats not a first car.they are junk pure and simple.the lebaron should have been called lejunk.chrysler has since gotten much better, but that old thing is a turd, plain and simple.(the door is ajardennis has never worked on one lol.i can get 4 for free right now, just tow em off. - idontgivafork

2)   Don't listen to people who bad mouth a car only because of the manufacturer. All manufacturers have good points and bad points. How old is this car? Only replace the parts that it really needs. The sound system is the only thing I would upgrade much. - Dennis

3)   another car - mokimoto

4)   I'm not familiar with the convertible LeBaron but all in all the LeBarons were not bad cars as long as they were cared for by the previous owner(s) which applies to any and all vehicles. We have two and both have in excess of 150,000 miles, the '92 shows 160,000 and both four door sedans still run, the '92 needs a ball joint and the other was totalled in a fender bender but still drives. It was totalled due to age, a '93 model, parts and labor costs would have exceeded the value of the car, my daughter accepted the check less the junk value of the car and continued to drive it after I "repaired" the front marker light. She is now driving a one owner '00 Intrepid with less than 70,000 on the odometer.

Both LeBarons have 3.0 engines and three speed automatics, both burn some oil but I can accept that with the mileage displayed. If the car is sound mechanically and looks good cosmetically I think a nice sound system would be a good addition to the car.

The people I have spoken to personally that hate the Chrysler line of vehicles are the same people that will next week hate what they are currently driving, they do not have the ability, knowledge, or desire to maintain their vehicles. I can only assume the same for what I read here. - Don't know everything !

5)   First off, I would like to say that the Chrysler Lebaron is NOT the worst car that you can get! I have a 1993 Plymouth Duster and they both have the same engines. Mine has the 3.0L V6, so I would recommend that. However, the 3.0L is notorious for its valve seals to go bad and start burning oil, so I would have them replaced. If you have the heads rebuilt this will take care of it. As for sound system, go with aftermarket, but you really have to know what you want for power and what kind of sound you want. I would talk to a pro on that one. Just don't let them sell you something that is rediculously expensive. All in all, this will be a great first car. Just take care of it and it will take care of you. - Miccah

Question 2
What does it mean if the engine light is on, on my 2002 Chrysler Town and Country Limited Edition?...

Answers
1)   It means you need to take it to Autozone. They'll check your check engine light for free and tell you what's wrong with your car. - Kathrine

2)   It means you should take it to a mechanic and get it checked. It could be a number of things. - setaian

3)   Please read this website

http://www.2carpros.com/articles/service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

Kathrine answer is correct. If there is a Autozone close by to your place, they will check it for you free using the OBD II scanner. It will show a code usually starting with a P0___. This code will tell what is wrong with your car. Autozone can research it to their computer and explain it to you what is wrong with your car. Like oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, EGR valve, needs tune up, etc. If this light is ON, automatic you will fail the Smog test result if you need one to register your car registration. Do not go to a mechanic yet because they will charge you $50 just to check the code. For $50 bucks, you can buy your own OBD II scanner. I fix my own cars that is why I have my own OBD II scanner.

Once you know the reason for the trouble code P0___, at least you know what is wrong with your car and if you bring it to a mechanic, you have an idea and they cannot rip you off $$$ - D

4)   I used to work as a mechanic, and not all mechanics will charge you to just check the engine light. Not everyone is out to take all of your money. However, yes, it could mean a number of things. AutoZone is a good place to get it checked, and yes they will do it for free. Also, the dealership can do the same thing. Dealerships own OBD II scanners that no one else does. They are specifically designed and sold to dealerships and they are far better than those of AutoZone and any small time mechanic. Hope this helps. - Miccah

is there any conversion kits to turn a automatic trans in to a manual? Chrysler b engine?

Question 1
is there any conversion kits to turn a automatic trans in to a manual? Chrysler b engine?...  i have a 440 with automatic

Answers
1)   no they are too different and you would need to add a clutch pedal - the best thing to do is get a shift-kit installed - GDBear

2)   They do make shift kits for some popular automatic transmissions. These kits will change it from auto to manual shifting. There is no clutch, but you have to manually shift from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, etc. It requires removal of the trans and taking it completely apart. You will have to change plates and drill holes. It is expensive. Your better off trading in your car, for one with a manual. - WB

3)   There has never been a kit that i've heard of. With a lot of money and hard work, you can add a clutch. - badbill1941

4)   There is no way to convert an automatic into a true manual simply because of the engineering. A real manual has 2 shafts side by side for each gear, whereas an automatic uses sun and planetary gears. Some people have successfully added a clutch to an automatic, and coupled with a manual valve body (which doesn't take much to install, really), it would behave like a manual, but it wouldn't be as efficient as a manual. Best bet? Call Keisler Automotive and order a 5 speed TKO-600 kit for it and be done with it. - Sean

5)   If you want to install a manual transmission behind your 440 (which is an RB engine, not a B) visit http://www.keislerauto.com/ for info. They have everything you need to convert an A, B, or E body (don't know if they have a conversion for C bodies) to manual transmission.

It won't be cheap but this is the easiest way to do it. - Don't know everything !

How do I find out if my 2009 Chrysler 300 Touring is AWD or RWD?...

Answers
1)   it will saw awd on the back or just look under the car in front you will see two drive shafts going to each wheel - big mike

2)   wet your driveway and floor it and ask somebody to watch the wheels - MCXD

3)   300 never came rwd they came fwd or awd - jim

4)   Look for a driveshaft in the front of the vehicle or you can check the vin number against codes on the internet. The order of the numbers will tell you if it is awd or not.

And Jim the current body of 300 introduced in 2004 as 2005 model and including the current update are RWD with an available AWD option. Chrysler no longer builds a full-size FWD sedan. - Patrick

5)   I don't know if it matters or not (it depends on where you are) if the car is a wagon or not. The 300 Touring is the 300 wagon in Europe, and was the Dodge Magnum in the US, with a different front-clip.

Anyway, if you are comfortable crawling on the ground, you should see drive-shafts behind the front wheels and a CV joint boot (looks like a black rubber Michelin man). Then you have AWD.
You can also call a Chrysler dealership with the VIN (from your insurance card) and ask them. They should be able to look it up for you.
If they can't do that, you can drive to the dealership and ask them to verify it and a mechanic will crawl under and look. - C T

6)   its either going to be FWD or AWD. The only RWD is when its the 300C with the hemi but that can also be ordered in AWD. Just look at the back of the car by the trunk. All dodge/chrylser cars that are AWD. Have AWD plate on the back. - Matt S

1)   run away as fast as you can..don't buy a car that probably needs at least a head gasket,,maybe a whole engine.. - pedro7of9

2)   Could be water pump. - Dennis

3)   Unless you have someone really good with vehicles that can check it over for you or a mechanic I'd stay way from it bec if it's sat too long thats never good for the brakes or engine especially the gaskets and also they might of damaged the engine from it over heating.Remember if someone says that it over heats slight even that probably means it has over heated more then slightly and if the person says it over heats a lot that means it's not just probably over heated severely but it's done it many times. Also remember that anybody that would let occur so many times probably doesn't maintain their vehicles in general very much either.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I hope your mom gets better soon and if you want to learn about what vehicles to buy and stay away from check out the lemonade book it's a great eye opener for anybody interested in buying either a new or used vehicle and also it offers lots of very helpful info. - helpful bob

5)   Don't buy it. An overheating engine in those cars will probably be a head gasket. Talking $1500 for the V6.
