Question 1
Would a 2001 chrysler sebring 6 cylinder be a bad purchase or are they ok cars?...

Answers
1)   I have been a chrysler tech for about 7 years and have just about seen it all my advice would be hell no but im sure there are plenty of happy sebring owners out there that would disargee I now work for Toyota and I would have to say that is the better choice it may cost more but in the long run your better off with a Camry or a Corrola maybe a Honda Accord or Civic Nissan Altima or Sentra. I know its bad to trash American cars like that and I hate to do it but those are the facts not all American cars are bad like that the sebring that year has a Mitsubishi engine if it has a 2.5L V6 witch had many problems like oil leaks from every point it had a oil seal and distributer electrical problems the 4cyl engine is the better way to go if you are set on buying a Chrysler car - Dennis

2)   they suck check out this website - chris

3)   not at all. Chrysler's are bad vehicles. check out consumer reports and look at their best used cars. - Ed Bermeo

4)   Ive had a Sebring for almost 6 months now, and i havent had one problem with it. Ive hit shit and been hit and there still isnt one dent on the body, its pretty durable. Its not exactly fast, well its not fast at all but i guess if you luck out like i did its a good choice - Matt Chionchio

5)   It would depend on how high the mileage is . Look at the oils to see if they are burnt. Does it smell inside the car? AC could be leaking. Get a compression test all should be fairly even and over 110, Look in the glove box for old maintenance records . If you can get a buyers kit from the DOT this will tell you the last three owners. If one of them owners is a wrecking yard , walk away , no run away. Because it has been totalled and has been patched up. - Donny

Why does my Plymouth starts to shake at 50-55 MPH?...  I bought this Plymouth Acclaim for 400 dollars and we registered it and put a new muffler on to pass inspection etc.. The car runs great but once we go 50-55 MPH the car starts to shake horribly like a flat tire. Funny thing is under 50 it does not shake and it is smooth and it drives straight and when it is above 60 it is still smooth and it drives great. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much :)
No I don't see any oil leaks.

1)   Most likley the wheels need to be balanced or rotated. It could also be just old tires I had problems with my alignment and it was solved with a new set of tires and a balance which is usually standard with purchase. - Zeke1r

2)   Check the balance on all four wheels before doing anything else, and get them balanced if necessary. Also check the shocks, and if any are worn, replace them. Zeke is right about having the alignment checked, front and back, as well. Those three areas are responsible for almost all speed-sensitive vibration. - TitoBob

3)   You should probably get your tires balanced because sometimes a little bit of weight difference can only be noticed at higher speeds, other than that I can only think of an bad wheel alignment but I would probably check your tire balance first. Hope this helps. Thanks, Peace.

4)   I agree with titobob check the balance and the tires for flat spots shocks will cause that too maybe a bent wheel or a bent cv axle a bad bearing in the diff part of the transmission are you leaking any trans fluid? mud in the wheels, maybe some body put a used tire on the car and didnt get the water out of it check the simple things first - Dennis

5)   You might have a wheel weight missing from one of the wheels. Is the shaking mostly in the steering wheel or is it more noticeable in your seat? If in the steering your front wheels are out of balance and if you can feel it in your seat the rear wheels are out of balance or the problem is in the rear area. I would also think that if a CV boot is ripped all the grease will be gone, you can count on the CV bearings bad. - Donny

Wanting to change halogen bulbs?...  I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring with the 2.4L. I want to change the current halogen bulbs to LED. What I want to know is if I would be taking a risk of damaging a controller if there is one or wasting my time cause of a logic issue with the controller detecting the low amperage and shutting down the circuit? I have read that some cars have the CAN running the lighting system and I attempted the change with the high beam bulbs and the car would shut the circuit down while the car is in control.

The reason for the change is I wanted to utilize the LED bulbs in conjunction with my emergency lighting. I was going to put diodes in place to prevent backfeed to the car system.
Thank you for the input as far as the light not being legal but I'm seeking to replace 3157 & 921 bulbs with LED versions. Like I stated early my concern is the car systems (CAN) if it controls the lights in any way to damage the electronics of the car.

I have a 2003 pt cruiser. I have had the starter replace 4 times. Everyone says that is what the problem is.?...  Sometimes it won't start. Twice I have been driving it and it completely dies. Everything, including brakes and steering completely stops. The whole thing shuts off. It is sitting in my driveway now and won't start. What could this be?

Answers
1)   a starter wouldnt cause the car to die while driving, its sole purpose is to start the car. a bad starter would typically click once when u turn the key and thats it. whatever caused ur car to die while driving is probably related to it not starting. could be a bunch of things though, so i'd have it towed to a mechanic for proper diagnosis - Steven

2)   It could be the ground connection. Follow the wire from the negative (-) terminal on your battery to where it is attached to the body of your car...sometimes they get loose or corroded. - Trashy

3)   I believe that you have a bad ground connection unless you know where all the grounds are at it can get kind of confusing so unless you are confident in working on your own car i would take it it a local mechanic but not the same one you have been taking it to for the starter because they completely ripped you off with 4 starters because any real mechanic would know that a starter can not cause the random dieing the only reason to have a starter replaced is because it ether stops working completely or draws to many amps to work properly. so ya i think that you have a bad ground connection somewhere but i do not know where it is it could be lots of places - Bryce

There is a circle with a 300 in the centre near the left backseat door's window, and the back has the same circled 300 with the word Chrysler beside it. I'm having trouble identifying the exact year. As you can see in the picture of the front, there is no letter so (I'm assuming) it isn't part of the 300 letter series, but the only Chrysler 300 non letter car that I know of (Besides the newer ones) is the 1965 Chrysler 300, which has a few noticeable differences as well. How do you fix a coolant leak on a 99 Chrysler Cirrus?

Question 1
How do you fix a coolant leak on a 99 Chrysler Cirrus?...  Possible fixes?
Tips?
Advice?
I just bought this car about 2 months ago and 2 weeks after I bought it, I noticed a coolant leak. It was just a minor hassle at first, I just had to top off the coolant every couple of days. Then the car extremely overheated and wont hold coolant. I figured it was the water pump. I attempted to repair it myself, but had trouble. Is this something I could fix, or should I have the car taken to a shop? Thanks

Answers
1)   Coolant leaks are usually the result of tubing. If you know absolutely nothing aboit cars, yes, tale it to a shop. But because of mechanic prices, I would try to find someone who knew how to fix it first :) - Rebekah

2)   There's no answer for your question. You have to get it inspected. Have someone pressure-test the cooling system and figure out where the leak is. Then you can figure out how much it will cost. Don't assume it's the water pump. - Bill

3)   get some coolant leak fix with the little beads in it, as soon as it stops leaking sell it. Chrysler products are junk; although they are smooth. Its going to happen again once you fix it. - James

4)   First you need to make sure from where its leaking if the radiator is bad I recommend buying a new one and changing it yourself because mechanic is no superman and charges like is no ones business if you have the tools just be observant how to remove the part. - Mr.JollyJacksonAndrews

my 91 chrysler won't shift why ?...  91 lebaron with a V6 . Tranny seems strong other than not shifting up

Answers
1)   well first of all ur clutch is not working properly or probably ur gearbox is dead that are the only reasons - vineet

2)   If you know what your kick down linkage is, take a look at this to make sure it is free . If it is seized on it won't let the trans shift up it will stay in low.
If this is ok look at the trans oil and smell it . If it smells burnt you need to get to get it to a transmission shop. you might look at a $2000.00 bill - Donny

3)   Does it have a 3 speed or 4 speed trans? If a 3 speed, the throttle linkage could be stuck or you may have a bad speed sensor. I don't know if that trans had a governor yet but if it does, it can be stuck. If it is a 4 speed it probably is in limp-in mode (2nd gear). Have the fault codes checked to help with the diagnosis. Good luck. - Dennis

4)   Shift solenoid pack could be faulty. - Dennis

What would be a good trade in value on a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited with no engine?

Question 1
What would be a good trade in value on a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited with no engine?...  The question says it all. I took it to a dealer last night to trade in on a new car and the dealer offered $100 for it. I thought that was ridiculous. The inside is just about immaculate. Leather, sunroof, heated seats. I took some pictures on my phone just in case. The only problem is that the engine finally went out on it last week, so it needs a new one of those. What's your opinion? Thanks!

Answers
1)   I agree with you bec some are offering much more in trade in values even if the vehicle is a scrap car. - helpful bob

2)   Trade in value at a dealership is $0, they will just scrap it. The only reason they offer you $100 is to sell you another car, you can do better trying to sell it to some one that wants to fix it. Also you will get a better deal with "no trade in" - Dennis

3)   I have a zero miles engine ready to install in your car so send me pictures description and a good price
touring or limited only
thank you - conejote_99

4)   Check your local paper for junk dealers, most are offering $200-300 for a "junk" car. A salvage yard may give you a little more if the body and interior are in A-1 condition. - Don't know everything !

5)   Depending on the mileage and condition, that car, running and driving, would be worth anywhere from about $2000 to $3500. The problem is that the car is not running, and it needs an engine. To put a rebuilt engine in would cost in the area of $2500, and a used (junkyard) engine would be in the $1400 range (if they can find a good one).

The dealer has no way to know if the transmission (a common problem) is good or not, nor can they test drive the car to find other problems.

A new car dealer is not going to fix that car. They will sell it to a wholesale dealer who may put a motor in it, or they may just sell it for scrap. The dealer really does not want your car. If is going to be more problems (having to tow it) than any potential profit is worth.

You have three choices.

You can sell your PT either to a private buyer or a junk dealer

You can donate your vehicle to a 501c3 charity and get a tax write off

You can have a motor put in the car yourself, and drive, sell or trade the running car - fire4511

6)   It probably sold in 2001 so that makes it 10 years old. The Blue Book probably won't allow much even with the engine running. So maybe a salvage yard will give you more than a dealer. - Jackolantern

7)   You're better off selling your car for the parts that remain. You'll make bigger profits by doing so. - мᴀD Dσɢ

Answers
1)   In my opinion,

You should avoid a PT Cruiser.....many problems around 90k...Struts, control arms, multiple engine issues, not to mention the timing belt should be replaced around 90k and that is about $800. Do not avoid 4cyl cars they can be very fuel efficient and very reliable. Honda's, Nissan's, and Toyota's 4cyl are all very proven cars.

Good luck on your search - Clay c

2)   You should look for a way not to buy it. You can make a car look great on the outside and the interior but keeping it running and dependable are two different stories. I have known two people that have owned them and they spent more on repairs than the car is worth. Keep looking and take any used car to a quality mechanic for an inspection before you buy it. - Norma

3)   "And should I avoid all chrysler cars?" [fixed it for you]

Yes. Yes, you should.

Pt cruiser is a pile of something inside and out. Unfortunately they don't ship with a box of tissues for the crying you'll be doing on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Don't think buying a new one will help you...they're currently having a problem with spontaneous combustion across the line. - Hank Scorpio

4)   Avoid THIS car at any cost.

There are MANY good cars that will serve you better, most of them Japanese and 4 cylinder. Have a look at the old favourites, Corolla, Pulsar, Mazda 323. You can't go far wrong. Your dad is wrong in this event - sorry! - LarryO

5)   I have 2 pt cruiser at the moment and i sold two in the past , and i never have any serious problems with any of them , i have a 2004 gt and 2003 ht with 70k miles not a single problem in the past year

i sold a 2002 limited 11k miles and 2001 limited 5 speeds 105k miles
yes i replace the lower control arms and timing belt but
almost all cars need a timing belt when they get near 100k miles

also this cars are fun to drive good luck and don't pay over
